That depends what your definition of "breaking the bank" is. I do think he has that 1st round pick value for a contender, or 2nd and B+ prospect, more if the Habs take salary back, but obviously nothing like Mantha did.

I see maybe a second rounder, his playoff resume and skillset isn't worth a first or a second + in this market IMO but who knows all it takes is one GM.

If management are unable to make a trade they will likely buyout Drouin before the start of next season.
why not have him play out his final year ? it's a contract year for him . he'll be motivated to put up some numbers. with 50 % retention at the deadline he may get us a 2nd or 3rd .

A buyout would cost them $3.67m in real cash, so they'd be better off trying to trade him at 50% ($2.75m). By trading him at 50% the cap impact would be $917k higher in 2022/23 (i.e. $2.75m minus $1.833m), but they'd save $920k in real cash (i.e. $3.67m minus $2.75m) and have his contract off the books completely in 2023/24 (as opposed to another year of $1.83 in dead capspace).

there's no reason to buy him out

Montreal Canadiens management will likely move on buyout Drouin before next season he hasn't met expectations with Montreal .
If Montreal make the changes expected likely this off season they likely won't have the ability to retain salary at next seasons trade deadline .
Teams can only retain salary on three contracts 15% of the cap .

Drouin won't be bought out and its idiotic to even discuss that possibility. It makes absolutely 0 sense for the habs. The 1 poster arguing for it isn't even providing any argument. Saying that Drouin has a low value is not an argument for a buyout.

i really dont get the Drouin hate dont get me wrong he has so much more talent then what hes showing but hes still a 50 point player on a defensive team with a horrible PP he wont fetch alot obviously but theres no way theres not some teams interested in him

Kulak will deff fetch a 3rd/4th round pick

Lekhonen is amazing love him he might not show amazing stats but thats not what your getting with him and personally i rather keep him unless the offer is really worth it

Would love prospects with the name Neighbours (Stl), Denisenko (FLA), Mercer (NJ), Holloway (EDM), Schneider (NYR), Poulin (PIT) and drafting WRIGHT in MTL in 2022.

Available - anyone NOT named Suzuki, Romanov, Caufield, Struble, Mysak, Guhle, Mailoux, Farrell, Harris, Roy.

Who would be interested in Drouin or Kulak??

Kulak is a standard bottom pairing depth dman acquired every year by every playoff team. At 50% he returns something like a 4th or 5th.

Drouin would likely be at heav retention, at 2.75 million he definitely has value as a complimentary middle six forward.

Honestly, unless there is an overpayment for Lehkonen I would sign him to a 3 yrs deal this off season. He is the kind of guy you need in your lineup and give a good example.

I'd give up a 2nd for him, and probably a low level prospect. I don't think Montreal is getting much more than that, though. The issue for the NYR will be adding another bottom-six salary for next year at over $3M per when their #1 priority should be to keep Strome OR replace him with a solid 2C. Goodrow and Lehkonen on a third line could be dynamite.
Send us Kravtsov and we have a deal.

Montreal only have one year of team control left. Do you think Lehkonen will want to commit his prime years to play on a team only just entering a long rebuild?

He likes Montreal and he has a lot of responsabilities and icetime, he is still young so he has a chance to play a good leadership role going forward, Im 90% sure he would resign here
