It just means they are not talking about it to journalists.

His point is that this is normally not the case. Nearly every other tournament we've known about the majority of the team by now, even if not officially announced (USAH used to announce roster commitments in waves). And normally we've heard far more confirmed declines by now, too. The head coach was just on a podcast where he wasn't afraid to talk about players who were playing (that's how we heard about Bonino and DeSmith) and yet it was still just a drop in the bucket.

Right now we have 5 players confirmed: Alex Tuch, Luke Tuch, Conor Garland, Nick Bonino, and Casey DeSmith. And 1 player who dropped out: Jake Guentzel. We've heard some declines but not as many as you'd expect given how few players we know are playing. And it's eerily quiet on college players outside of Luke Tuch, who's there to get his brother to play.

It's a very different process this go around. Why is anyone's guess.

There is no need for weird theories. They are probably not as communicative as they used to be on this, nothing more. One of the reasons may be that they are waiting for a larger number of players from teams which lost the 1st Stanley Cup round.

There are no "weird theories."

It's not that it's weird that USAH is non-communicative. It's weird that very little is coming out from journalists and players, the normal source for the early information. And in this cycle we heard from the head coach, who had no problem leaking players who had accepted or were going to play until they were injured, so it's hard to say they're intentionally trying to be tight lipped.

Yes, we know, the people you're chastising have brought up the 1st round exits numerous times already.

Well that rules Tkachuk out, and thus probably the younger one as well (I think best chance was to get them together). Huge work on the forecheck to set up the overtime winner. Matt's a gamer.

There are lot of options now because Bruins got eliminated. That said, it is pretty brutal to get eliminated in the first round after a record braking season so I don't expect many guys to show up.

Pretty deflating for teams like the Bruins to go out like they did. I wouldn't expect much out of them or really any of the eliminated teams for player candidates for this team. A lot of silence out of both the U.S. and Canadian camps.

Agreed. But if they have some younger guys who haven't played a ton that could be a possibility. I haven't scrolled over all the names for Boston and Colorado but I would imagine there are a few under 25 names that could suit up now. Swayman had a tough game 7 loss but if I was him I would get my ass back out there and play for the US and not dwell on that loss...especially since that was his only game in the series I believe. He would be an amazing add..

Grzelcyk is getting traded by Boston this summer for cap reasons. He could possibly go if Swayman went. I wouldn't mind Lohrei going from Providence. It would be a good experience for him.

Frederic and Clifton are out of contracts. I think otherwise they were probably most likely options. Compher would be nice and pretty much only good possible addition from Avs.

Swayman is RFA, not worth pulling something and missing out.

Forbort, Coyle and Grzelcyk are all around 30, I doubt it from them, especially if any are on the trade block.

That leaves maybe McAvoy and Carlo, but hard to be too enthused about the World Championships after you had a team you expected to be making a deep run lost a deflating Game 7.

For the Avs, JT Compher would be a good choice... but he's a UFA, so no way. Josh Manson is 31, but I don't think he's played in any international competition ever, don't even know which of USA or Canada he'd go for if he ever had the choice. Maybe he'd want to go, but that's a pretty underwhelming selection. And well, hey, Jack Johnson always seemed down to go if nothing else (/s)

At this point I don't even have nothing against it if they would give chances for guys like Jacob Perreault or Brendan Brisson. Who know's, maybe guys like that could receive some kind of boost for next season. Nothing to lose really.

It's ok, Bonney filled me in...how are things going RJ? Did you ever finish up that 16 year philosophy degree or still grinding away on it? We are big fans by the way....
I don't think we ever had any opportunity to meet ot had any internet convo, and honestly I think that you are quite a moron, sorry man.

Huh, after almost 20 years online here and in these US hockey threads never interracted or have we seen you before...surely with your inner working knowledge of USA Hockey specifically with roster release/NHL beat reporters we would have crossed paths...

That just feels very odd to me...

Calm down, man. I just noticed some strange speculation in this thread about US hockey not having players for the tournament etc., so I wrote they seemed unwarranted to me. I am mostly posting on European teams, that's why I haven't been active in the US hockey thread. Try to take it easy.

Frederic will be re-signed by Boston. He didn't play all games vs Florida. I would like to think he would say yes. He's a gamer but I don't think He accepts.

Clifton will not be re-signed by the Bruins. Would like to think he would go. He also didn't play every game against the Panthers. I could kinda see Connor saying yes.

Thanks for stopping by....

Well we had a shot at all 3 Hughes brothers...that is gone now. I can't see a single Ranger wanting to come especially after a 7th game like that. Miller would be the only one with a shred of hope...

He's an RFA, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Kreider has played at the WC fairly often. Trouba used to as well but it's been awhile. Fox only played once as a college player. Lindgren has never played. Trocheck never shows up.

Only positive is a few guys who have been willing to show up here multiple times or some younger guys who haven't played much if at all in the tournament. Hopefully at least a 1-2 have the itch and aren't injured.

We'll probably just end up with Jimmy Vesey.
