Realistically, they just need to hold off Denmark, France, Austria and Hungary in the group stage and hopefully avoid Canada in the cross-over (USA is in the harder group this year), and they have a good chance to reach the Semis if they match up with like a Switzerland or Slovakia again.
You will be in problem against Teams like Denmark and Austria with a 50% college team , filled with 3-4 liners NHL players

No JT Miller, Boeser, or Quinn Hughes?

Hughes declined (at least originally) because he wanted to watch and support his brothers for New Jersey's playoff run.

The hope for USAH followers was if NJ was eliminated, all 3 Hughes brothers would play since all 3 have never played together in a meaningful way and their options to do so will be limited.

I can't imagine Quinn changing his mind now when Jack and Luke advanced.

Bonino og Bjork the best "new" players in the squad. Tuch & Garland we already knew about.

But not the best year for USA...

The roster is highlighted by two-time Stanley Cup champion Nick Bonino of the Pittsburgh Penguins

This is the worst roster I can recall. I'm not even sure this team would beat our WJC team lol.

Bummed to not see Cooley on the roster. He's gone radio silent.

Glad to see Perbix there even as an RFA. He should play big minutes.

It's a crazy young roster. Should be an excellent skating team. There's good skill here but most of it isn't proven at the NHL level yet.

Obviously the roster is disappointing when the list of talented and proven guys who didn't want to play is incredibly long. But I'm at least thankful they opted for younger or more skilled guys, even if career AHLers, over taking NHL plugs like Austin Watson again.

No idea how the team will perform. I wouldn't be surprised if they do okay or struggle the whole time before flaming out in the QFs. But at least there are some interesting angles (i.e., young prospects) to follow beyond just hoping the team does well.

But nonetheless, USAH and American players need to do better when building rosters for this team.

This is the worst roster I can recall. I'm not even sure this team would beat our WJC team lol.

They'd destroy the WJC team.

As a Montreal fan pretty pumped to watch Hutson play at this level and see how he grades out at this stage of his development, will be good reps for him.

As a USA Hockey fan you laugh, you cry, you laugh some more, and then go to bed in tears. LOL. In all seriousness I give the brass credit for putting together what is overall a young, skilled, and good skating team. I don't know how they will fare against "seasoned" competition but at least it isn't a bunch of 4th line goons masquerading as NHLers.

It is young, has some skill and potential for a few more adds. Horribly disappointing with over 270 American NHLers this year...but they won't be bad.

The team that won bronze in 2021 wasn't far off of this...Petersen was our #1 goalie, Garland and Labanc the top 2 NHL forwards (Robertson and Tage Thompson were just getting started, Beniers is like Gauthier this year)...we relied on Brian Boyle for God sake to pk and be a leader...our defense...hell I can't even remember who we had playing defense beside Matt Roy, Wolanin and Zac Jones...not kididng it was a list of meh players.

It is what it is but we cheer these dudes on who are the ones coming, showing pride for their country and hopefully gel like 2021 and play their hearts out.

They'd destroy the WJC team.
I was being a bit tongue in cheek there, but I think if you combined our 2022&23 WJC teams they could probably give this team a run right now (especially if you give them Commesso). Hell, there's like 5-6 guys on this roster who played on one of those teams.

Knies - Cooley - Snuggerud
Mazur - Gauthier - Coronato
McGroarty - Bordeleau - Samoskevich
Boucher - Stramel - Brindley

Hughes - Sanderson
Hutson - Faber
Kleven - Casey

Commesso

That roster actually feels like it could be competitive...

I think its good for you guys the team doesn't have a guy like Seth Jones who didn't feel like he actually wanted to be there.

It is not a good look for USA Hockey but it is what it is. If you can't get guys to show up then I guess it is best to just give a chance for younger guys who can maybe take something from this experience. I still have to say that if USA Hockey can't do better than that with our massive player pool they are doing something wrong big time. They need to for once evaluate very carefully how they can improve this situation.

Hutson and Thrun are going to be fun to watch out there. This team will generate lots of speed from the point. Just wish Faber came too. I would feel a lot better just having him there...
