Do we even know if guys like Zegras and Robertson made the long list. I feel like Zegras at least proabably wasn’t on the list and therefore can’t go.
That’s what I suspect, too, regarding Zegras. Robertson, as an outstanding junior player who stepped into the NHL and put up a near-P/G rookie season, was almost certainly on the list.

Is it just me, or is this team not as sexy as our 2010 team?

For all the talk of how the game has grown in USA, and it definitely has, I don't think this team is going to be as good as our Silver 2010 club.

I think there are more USA players (percentage) than ever before in the NHL, and more ##1 overalls (Kane, Matthews, Hughes) than ever, but I still think that 2010 was better than what we can assenble currently.

Maybe I am wrong about that. I loved our 2010 team.

Granted Quick and Miller in their prime was great, but..

The 2010 team had Jack Johnson, Gleason and Whitney
on D. The 2010 team D didnt have the depth this team
does. If Eichel was healthy the 2010 center group
isnt as good either. This team absolutely is more
talented.

The States can definitely win it. By far the only team I'm afraid of.

I want as few as possible 2014/2016 Team USA players
as possible but absolutely no Pacioretty or Wheeler.
Pavelski and Kane upfront are it and McDonagh and Carlson on D.

Want to see the 2013- 2017 Jr group pool dominate
team.

Jack Johnson was fine. We also had Erik Johnson and Ryan Suter.

And possibly the three greatest goalies USA has ever produced (though Miller really was the only one who played). Miller's performance against Canada in the preliminary is still one of the greatest performances of a goalie I've ever seen.

I mean, this wasn't a bad looking group of guys (and their OT Silver was proof of that, against an even more stacked Canada):

Parise
Kane
Kessel
Kesler
Pavelski
Brown
Ryan
Suter
Johnson

And there were other guys that were at the top of their game as well that rounded out that roster as well.

If demko does not somehow make this team, it would be downright criminal.
The guy is absolutely elite

We should just do something like the World Cup in Canada again with a better format and no mask/vaccine mandate. Heck have all games outdoors if needed lol

I'll give you Miller/Thomas/Quick over Gibson/Helle/Quick.

JJ, Gleason, Whitney absolutely don't sniff the
2022 D corp. EJ has great difficulty making it given
Fox, McAvoy, Carlson and Jones are better than
2010 EJ. Thats half the D corp that couldn't make this one.

So make a combined 2010/2022 Team:

G - Miller, Thomas, Quick (2010)

D - Suter-Slavin-McDonagh
Fox-McAvoy-Rafalski
Werenski-Jones

C - Eichel-Matthews-Larkin-Kesler-Miller

W -Parise-Kane (2022)-Gaudreau-Tkachuk
Kreider-Terry-Connor-Tkachuk-Pavelski

Outside of goalie the 2022 is dominant.

USA Hockey names Guerin general manager of Olympic team - TSN.ca

Wild GM to run U.S. as Games questions loom

Drury named Assistant GM. SafeSport's investigation into Guerin is not complete, although the civil suit against Guerin, among others, was resolved. I have to say Guerin's quotes in the ESPN article about this stuff leaves a lot to be desired. I really don't see why USAH would be okay with the downsides to naming Guerin other than they're USAH.

ESPN article has more details including:
  • 55 players are under consideration
  • Eichel is one of them. Guerin and Eichel's camp have been in regular contact.
  • According to Drury "there hasn't been much talk about" Team USA players opting out due to Covid.
