he was free for all to take...Sather the best GM of all time just plan ole sucks and lost his touch the last 5 years in Edmonton...in New York that gives you a lifetime contract.

For every good move Sather makes...he makes 5 terrible ones...Rangers will never win cup with him in charge.

Gut check everyone; as much as no one wants to agree with this analysis, there is a tiny voice saying " that's probably true".:banghead:

Just pisses me off to see a bunch of teams like the Kings that have these big rugged players who can play some and we have none on our team and none in our system. I have always been a big fan of Clark and Groton but that falls on them because I know Sather has no idea who we are drafting.

The last two GMs draft like they are expecting the NHL to lean towards a no-contact league. Brassard is absolutely dangerous with no one around him. This season he hasn't gotten much room and what's the result?:shakehead

I strongly felt that the Rangers lost their identity when they lost Prust, and Dubinsky. To lose a couple of warriors like that, among others, and have only Twigy go out there to take a beatdown after beatdown... well it's easy to see why the Rangers don't battle to score on 2nd, 3rd chance opportunities with a creme puffs in the middle of the line up.

Watching Kevin Klein beat down Twigy
just gives teams with added physical dimensions in their line up the confidence and knowledge that they can run around and get after the Rangers early on and play a team that's not going to battle back and mail it in because of so many non response type of players playing ineffective minutes.

Two guys like Brassard and Pouliot being out there like that for a collective 30 minutes out there a game means a .500 team with the current squad. I mean those wrist flickers from 50' feet out really have an impact on a winning product don't they?

The Rangers were icing 5 guys like that during the horrendous start and preseason and we all saw what happened. With so much parity in the league, and guys laying it all on the line, you need guys that will go out there try and change the momentum, play hungry, and not let the other team play with any momentum.

This current Ranger team mails it in as soon as they go down by 2, and Twigy can't do much to deter against that, liking his in-shift game as of late, but the entire NorthEast is built a little heavier, just like the Pacific, and the records of those teams (playoff bound) reflect that, so it's not just a matter of LA, SJ, PHX... There's TOR, BOS, TB, MTL too that ice rosters with players that finish their checks and step up for team mates. That TB defense was huge and did not have to do much once Labrie beat down Twigy. In a game of arms you know the Rangers simply don't stack up.
Was at the rangers preds game the other night and only saw one good hit. Boyle was the recipient of that!

You know whats the funniest thing about this thread? The sense of urgency for something that really hasn't been a problem. There really hasn't been a game this season where I said "Man, the Rangers are totally getting pushed around and manhandled tonight."

They can't score goals. That has been the problem, is the problem, and will be the problem.

Our worst problem right now really is a lack of a really legitimate pwp qb d-man. A guy who can play decent defense and put up 50 points a year anyway. Our pwp seems to have improved under AV this year but we really need a guy like that more than anything. And for those who say Del Zotto's the guy all I can say is he's not really doing it for me.

I will say I do like tougher teams. The problem here is these days there are only a limited number of truly tough players who can both hit and fight and add to your team in other ways. Just going out and grabbing a goon doesn't accomplish much.

Organizational needs--include more goaltending depth and just rebuilding the prospect base which has gotten pretty thin.

id love Shawn Thornton on this team, speaking of goons that can play although does not put up a lot of pts.. how did the Ducks let him go..

how about Matt Beleksey from the Ducks. he fits the bill....

Beleskey would be a great fit. Great tough guy who can also play good minutes. Has a great shot. He has also spent limited time on a line with Perry and Getzlaf over the last couple years.

On another note, Mashinter is absolutely a tough guy. This guy can fight whether you know it or not. Maybe if he got more that 4:30 of ice a game, he could prove more. The guy barely got a chance. And I know he's not the greatest skater out there.
But I believe Mashinter will get called up again soon, and he'll hopefully get a better chance.

It's pretty clear this team wants people who can skate. I think the hope may have been that they could teach Mashinter to skate, and he'd be an effective 4th line player. That clearly hasn't worked out.

I would disagree.
Nobody who averages, precisely, 4:34 per game has been given a good enough chance, IMO. Mashinter knows how to skate, he's just not flashy or quick.
He has the toughness.

Mashinter got limited minutes because he cant be depended upon to play bigger minutes at the NHL level.

What a backwards way of thinking. Yikes.

I know how to skate too - if I only got 10 minutes per game in the NHL......

A spectacular opinion and I applaud your efforts.

And yes, a lot of hockey fans tend to know how to skate as well. Myself included.

Well, if the plan for the 4th is to play 8 min. A nigut and house your PK specialists might as well have Mash in there. If the goal is to roll 4 then we may want to look at some petsonnel changes for team toughness. Is Wiese still with Vancouver? Always liked him.

Mashinter got little time when he played, true. In the time he did get, his play ranged from neutral to bad. He may be good at punching people in the face, but as far as things that affect who wins or loses the game, he's been bad.

Well, according to this thread, punching people in the face leads to momentum, and momentum leads to goals. You won't find it in your fancy stats though.

Of course it does. I've just never understood why the two teams momentum from the fight doesn't cancel each other out.

Mashinter sucks. Another big "tough" guy that people fall in love with until he takes 2 bad penalties in a row and then people will say waive him. Teams are so scared of Mashinter out there....

It depends on who wins the fight, silly

We lost 5-0 last night because Dorsett is too small and lost a fight early

He has the toughness.

Maybe he just hasn't shown enough to earn a longer stint? He's had several call-ups, played well in the AHL, and yet he still can't stick on a team that could use a player who can fight the heavyweights while not being a liability? The opportunity is perfect for him to show he belongs, and yet he hasn't done it yet. It's on him.

He's still there, and he's still a mediocre player. Can't fight worth a damn, but has a ton of heart. What this team needs is a player who can stand with the tough guys of the league, but isn't completely useless otherwise.

When the Rangers came within 1 game of the Finals everyone said we were missing one more scorer...we go out and get that guy but abandon the identity of the team. They remove Prust, Dubi, Rupp, Bickel.

There is no balance on this team...guys get tossed around and we have no one to retaliate.

Del Zotto is the one chip where we can add some size and snarl but we will go for another soft high end potential guy who will suck.

You clearly have been following the rangers too long.:sarcasm:

The Rangers did not bother to step into the way of the Lightning the other night. They left their hitting game behind. Hitting to impede the opposition is core to the game of hockey. Hitting gets you into the game and increases your chances of winning.
It's part of hockey 101 and not to even be debated at this level.
