With the game being played at the speed that it is, it's not like every player is over the hill at 32, but I understand what you mean. I mean just replacing Pouliot with a Ryan Garbut type would do wonders for the team. That's a tough kid that can absolutely fly.
Another one is Matt Calvert, gritty, but has A plus wheels, not a game fighter by any means but plays a hard speed game. Boone Jenner is another in the CLB system that fits that mold. Brett Ritchie, Matt Fraser, are either close to or in the AHL that play that type of game.
Not goons, but hard nosed, smash mouth players that take it hard to the net.
Problem is you have to wait on them to physically mature to play that brand of hockey at the NHL level, not to mention all the other stuff. Buffalo rushed Foligno, MTL had to send MaxPac down to the minors to figure it out, Bobby Ryan was a cap casualty, but he wasn't a full time NHL player until 22. Same with Kreider. Power forwards take a a while to get it.
