I mean Asplund is not a sexy pick, but I'd rather have Asplund on the squad then the likes of Bromé or Fredrik Olofsson.
Good skater works great as a third or fourth liner on this team.

The broadcast crew just teased that they "have a surprise regarding the Worlds squad" that they will announce after the game

Jonathan Lindqvist reporting on Viaplay broadcast:
- Elias Pettersson and OEL undecided, awaiting exit talks with Vancouver this weekend
- Confirming Dahlin, Asplund, Raymond again

It seems like Dahlin was the surprise they were talking about, but it was already confirmed yesterday. So I guess they fooled me to watch the entire broadcast

What a goal by Söderblom!

Yeah, very few SHL players can hack it this level. We need a majority NHLers and a few KHL/NLA players. Pudas is the one SHL player who I feel comfortable with in this group.
Yes. If Sweden play guys like Tömmernes we are screwed. Have they even asked Lundkvist? He got dumped into the AHL by NYR but it's an incredibly difficult team to gain a spot on, especially with the depth they have now.

Lundkvist alone is basically better than any SHL defensemen currently presented. He played really well last team he played for Sweden and now he's a year older.
Asplund is playing as mentioned earlier in the thread. Kempe, & Arvidsson are in the POs. Olofsson, & Janmark are FAs so doubtful they accept.
Oh darn, I somehow excluded LA from my playoff list. My bad. Didn't know Olofsson and Janmark are FA's though, thanks for that information.

---
It will be awesome to watch Dahlin play anyhow, I think he can make a big impact on the team and Raymond is young and hungry. I really hope OEL and Pettersson can play, they are quality players for the national team with less flaws in their play than guys like Olofsson. Pettersson would be so nice to have, especially on the PP and he's heating up after his wrist injury and whatnot.

Not a surprise since he's also an RFA too.

I'm not that sad at him saying no actually. Sure, he would've been better than a SHL player but he's still too one dimensional in his game for my taste. That will probably change with time. But as it currently is, if Olofsson doesn't get his shot from his office, he's not that strong and dominating as a player. I actually think there are plenty of two-way SHL players better than him all over the ice. And this is all from a small sample, so maybe I should be sad, because his shoot is still damn impressive.

Agreed. I don’t think he’s as useful for team Sweden as he is over the course of an entire 82 game NHL season on a smaller ice surface.

You are being too hard on Tömmernäs. He was our best D-man with Lundkvist/Sellgren/Pudas in last WC and he has been our best D this year in EHT and OG. He is like a modern day Magnus Johansson/Thomas Rhodin.

Anton Forsberg
Jesper Bratt
Mattias Janmark
Oskar Sundqvist
Nils Höglander
Adam Boqvist
Anton Strålman
Gustav Nyqvist
Victor Olofsson
Robin Lehner

So thats the list of declines so far. Could probaly add in Jonathan Dahlen, Jesper Boqvist and Isac Lundeström since they dont have contracts.

Best possible of the remains:

Andreas Johansson - Elias Pettersson - Lucas Raymond
Linus Omark - William Karlsson - Pontus Andreasson
Lucas Wallmark - Alexander Wennberg - Jakob Silfverberg
Rasmus Asplund - Marcus Kruger - Oskar Lindblom
Mathias Brome, Elmer Söderblom

Oliver Ekman Larsson - Erik Karlsson
Rasmus Dahlin - Adam Larsson
Henrik Tömmernäs - Jonathan Pudas
Theodor Lennström - Christian Folin

Magnus Hellberg
Lars Johansson
Adam Reidenborn

I really hope Omark wants to play.

Would be a huge add. He is not the player he was in his prime, but still head and shoulders over any D on the roster not named Dahlin. Would probably need a reliable stay-at-home D to complement him
He’s quite defensively sound nowadays relies heavily on his hockey IQ.

First time an AHL player has been invited to play internationally, no?

The Karlsson's I get why they decline. Raymond might decline for the WJC instead?

I'm a little surprised Raymond declined but I wouldn't be surprised if he's got nagging injuries, he's taken a lot of abuse this season.

Really happy that Berggren will be there (he should have been last year too). Roster looks weaker than expected though, Sweden has to hope the right teams get eliminated from the playoffs..

The situation with forwards is critical. Bemstrom and Asplund are not amplification. We can only hope for the players who will be released after the first round of the Stanley Cup.

Yeah, this does not look like a contending team. It is not like we can compensate lack of talent with good coaching. We need a roster good enough to win despite coaching

Very disappointed about W. Karlsson's decision...
Eh, I expected him to decline. Played a lot of hockey the past few years along with leaving a tough season, both individually and team-wise, behind + getting married and all that jazz.

This year could be a prime year for a young squad. Would be nice to go younger for once.

Well this year will be as bad as last.
No one wants to play for Garpenlöv.

Even Raymond declined. NHL are getting everything they’re asking for and more. No Olympics. Next to No participation in the WHC if it continues on this path the NHL will BE hockey.

Cooperating with them i clearly not working you have to try and compete with the corrupt bastards.
