Jalonen decided to bring players from the NHL if they are definitely better than other players on the team and can help the team win. Why players asked were Granlund, Hintz, Heiskanen and not someone like Kapanen.

But yeah nice to see you guys get Grundström
Imo a guy like Grundström is someone you either have from pre tournament or not at all so I tend to agree. Not a huge issue though.

To be fair nine of these were straight declines, nine injured and seventeen were either FA or RFA.
9 straught declines is a lot though. Would never be possible for Russians without consequence. Very rare for most countries. Only Finnish example is Ristolainen and he had an actual reason this year.

Agreed. But it is what it is, and normally there’d still be a bunch of top 6 NHL forwards, but contracts and injuries screwed it up.

Well, we have always had a lot of declines. The years with Grönborg were an exception, look at 2007 for instance, the only NHLer was first-year Alex Steen

We also have a lot of NHLers which leads to a lot of declines, the list of declines for Canada and the US must be enormous. I think this year was just a prefect storm of players being fatigue/injured from a compressed NHL schedule, a lot players on expiring contracts etc.

Weirdly enough, i feel like Nylander will accept the invite. Wallmark as his center seems like the right choice. I think Asplund should be the LW, he will be the gritty hardworking dude on that line.

Which is exactly why they should get well liked coaches by the players who know what they're doing, not some beer buddy with someone with connections within the Swedish hockey association. Garpenlöv's career as a coach is very, very slim. He was an assistant coach for Djurgården in 2002-2005, then team manager for Sweden in 2010/2011, that's it. Then out of the blue he's the head coach for the national team with a buttload of better options. I mean what the heck? And it's not like Garpenlöv's results with the national team have been impressive either, on the contrary.

Sadly, Grönborg was the anomaly and not the standard for the Swedish hockey association. With Hallam as the coach alot more NHL'ers should be positive to play. I'm also dead sure alot more Swedish NHL'ers would've accepted to play the tournament in Finland if they respected the coach. It's a nice country and close to bring over their families for a vacation.

I am not defending Garpen as a coach, but if players only come if they think we have a good coach, we would never have any NHLers. Can't remember the last time a Team Sweden head coach won a coaching battle. We only win we get such good players that they are able to overcome the bad coaching (e.g. Turin 2006)

Which of these were straight declines?

They don't have to be good or great, they just have to be liked and respected. And to be fair, Grönborg was pretty good.

We where horrible WC 2019 with Grönborg as coach, even thought he had a dream team. And lets not forgot the loss to Germany in og 2018

Elias Pettersson, Lucas Raymond, Jonas Brodin, Alexander Wennberg, Gustav Nyquist, Anton Forsberg, Oskar Lindblom, William Karlsson, Andreas Johnsson. And I don’t know what reasons these guys had either. In Lindboms case it probably has something to do with him recently recovering from cancer.

With the center situation being what it is I think its weird they haven’t asked Peterson.

"Svenske stjärnforwarden Joakim Nordström, 30,"

Nordström called star-player again. :laugh::huh:

Here we go again. Wallmark is injured.

So we gonna play with 10 forwards today.

I don't really understand why it is possible to have Garpenlöv as a coach year in year out while no-one wants to join. And all this while having inadequate roster. This would be big news in Finland.

Peterson, Ullmark, & Pettersson *have been invited.
Nice additions, the article said that Petersons arrival is conditioned on Nylander declining, they are still waiting on Nylanders answer.

I think it is quite strange, we have 18 skaters registered, will be 19 with Grundström. That leaves 3 skater spots, so we could add both Peterson and Nylander.
