Pettersson - Hävelid
Lindstein - Sandin Pellikka
Johansson - Salomonsson
Willander

With the way Anton Johansson is playing, I can’t see Willander making it, and people also shouldn’t be surprised by how much Johansson will play. He’s a big kid, who’s looked good in the SHL and he’s looked good in U20 games too.

He’s showing why he was drafted as high as he was, and the way he’s developing, he may have been a steal in the 2nd round.
He has the genes, his dad was a good player

100%… Genes matter, especially for a dmam. It generally means the kid started thinking the game at a higher level than his peers, at a younger age.

If this site is guilty of something, it’s tagging a prospect way too early. Someone throws an opinion out there, and it becomes mob mentality. If a kid doesn’t dominate his season after being drafted, he gets tagged as a bust, or a project, etc. What people forget is, every kid is a project except for the very, very few.

For Anton, think of what he’s accomplishing at only 19. He’s a 6’4” kid, playing well in the SHL, and also playing well internationally, with a couple of goals and assists in 6-7 games. Never underestimate Hakan Anderson’s evaluations.

Watch how opinions on him change over the next 6 weeks. Things are starting to look really good for Detroit’s right side for the next 10-12 years.

What sucks is, that same negative opinion (on this site) Anton has suffered over the last year, will be (by many) put onto Willander, if he doesn’t make the team. It’s ridiculous. Sweden has a lot of really good U20 dmen. If he doesn’t make it this year, or he’s scratched most games, it says NOTHING in the grand scheme of things. He’ll get his chance next year for sure.

In case some havent seen Willander so far this year at Boston University.

He has been performing and developing extremely well. Craig Button compares him to
Charlie Mcavoy.

Button also says Willander should for sure be on Team Sweden's team for the WJC

Öhgren - Östlund - Lekkerimäki
Stenberg - Bystedt - Wahlberg
Born - Edstrom - Unger Sörum
Wagner - Eriksson/Forsjäll - Pettersson
Rudslätt

Pettersson - Hävelid
Lindstein - Sandin Pellikka
Norén - Salomonsson
Johansson

What i think Hävelid will do

Isac Born is massivly underated, 7 points in 20 shl games

I have come to a point where I think I’d actually prefer to have Simon Zether over Oskar Pettersson
nah

Pettersson had 4 points in 7 wjc games and is a big gritty player, perfect for the 4th line, and he is a winger

Zether as the 4C perhaps?

As long as he’s on the roster, he’s in my eyes undoubtedly better than Rudslätt.
I mean, Rudslätt shouldn't make the roster any way. There's just way too many two-way players (which includes Zether) for him to overtake for a 4th line role.

I'd personally be shocked if Pettersson won't start on a line with Bystedt.

Anyway, the big question is the goaltending (weakest in many years), & the coaching. Hopefully it doesn't take Hävelid until the very end to drop down underperforming players (like Odelius) or for the player to tell Hävelid to stop playing him (like Lysell) for him to act.

All hope resting on Melker Thelin
