Burakovsky keeps producing. Been great for Colorado 3 straight seasons. I did not have him on my team, but he is really pushing it. Big guy too.

I would substitute Andersson for Lindholm, but otherwise I'm fine with that. Maybe move Forsberg and Karlsson up and knock Pettersson back to the 4th line and 2nd PP if he keeps bombing.

Andersson leads all Swedish D in +/- by a wide margin, and plays 1D on arguably the best team in the league, I don't know how you keep him off tbh.

My selection:

Hedman - Brodin
Kylington - Ekholm
Andersson - Sandin

What I think:

Hedman - Brodin
Karlsson - Ekholm
Ekman Larsson - Andersson

Also Backlund both will and should make this team, book it

Sandin is slow as molasses and weak in his own end, and nowhere near the offensive talent any of these other Swedish D are. He is a bottom pairing guy for the Leafs, and belongs nowhere near a Team Sweden Olympic roster.

Sandin has 62% Corsi and has looked good when I've seen the leafs. Also 16.6 relative xGF% according to moneypuck. I have only watched a handful of Leafs game but statistically he's crushing it. I know QoC might be an issue but how can you see those numbers and his play and go "no way"

Still don't expect him to make the team though. I think Andersson will be the only 'young' guy on defense

Sandin has performed very well, but as you said, he's done it against pretty poor competition, and hasn't played much on PP or PK.
You left off players like Hedman and Karlsson, who have rel xG% around 10%, but are doing that against tough competition, and are playing special teams. That's not to say Sandin hasn't been having a fantastic season, but when picking an Olympic defense for a team as stacked as Sweden, it's hard to take guys who aren't playing the important minutes on their own teams.

Lucas Raymond is not among the 50 players preselected (bruttotruppen) according to Sportspegeln (evening sports on tv) two-three days ago.

Making these players below the most likely to be on the team (imho):

Gabriel Landeskog - Mika Zibanejad - William Nylander
Filip Forsberg - Elias Lindholm - Elias Pettersson
Viktor Arvidsson - Joel Eriksson Ek - Patric Hörnqvist
Adrian Kempe - Mikael Backlund - Jakob Silfverberg

Victor Hedman - Jonas Brodin
Hampus Lindholm - Erik Karlsson
Oliver Ekman Larsson - Adam Larsson

Jacob Markström
Robin Lehner

------------- starting today above -------------

Rickard Rakell - Nicklas Bäckström - André Burakovsky
Gustav Nyquist - Alexander Wennberg - Jesper Bratt
Victor Olofsson - William Karlsson - Jesper Fast

Rasmus Dahlin - John Klingberg
Mattias Ekholm - Rasmus Andersson

Linus Ullmark
Filip Gustavsson

Lucas Raymond is not among the 50 players preselected (bruttotruppen)? What a f***ing joke. The guy has 20 points in 21 games and will bring some youth energy.

Indeed.

And maybe someone now replies: - Lucas Raymond has himself to blame. Being this good this early can't be possible.

I still don't see Larsson on the team. He's not playing well and hasn't in a long time. I agree with your forwards except I expect that Bäckström and Karlsson go into the team if they're healthy.

Who does he bump? Zibanejad - Lindholm - (healthy) Bäckström is a given at this point, and I think both Karlsson and Eriksson EK have a better shot at the 4C spot.

I think we have a lot of centers right now, and I don't think that's a problem. I'm imagining a checking line of Backlund - Karlsson - Silfverberg

Sure Bäckis is there. And you might know my William Karlsson "never good on the national team and one season wonder" position.

Not sure they are completely sold on Rasmus Andersson. And Ekholm must switch side on a season where he's not quite his usual self. And Ekholm is the only LD with a psycial side of the borderline (1) LD's. And OEL and AL are proven. So, we'll see. With all the young guys going forward right now the defense could look pretty much like anything. I guess you could say we have industrialized countries problems here. And if they go with side where they play in NHL the right side is Karlsson, Andersson, Klingberg and Larsson. And Andersson I think might be used in a role where he can be demolition man with a safe backup in, say Ekholm. Not quite OEL. So basically we have OEL-Larsson or Ekholm-Andersson or god forbid Dahlin-Klingberg...Where Brodin ends up is the big mystery.

Nylander was not selected for 2016 world cup.

Crosby was not selected for 2006 canadian team. It is not a surprise really. Youth is rarely selected for these tournaments.

Brodin is playing the best hockey of his life. Would not be wise to leave him off the team.

I don't think they plan on that. So, no worries. Both Kaprizov and Brodin will be there. Together with Eriksson Ek, Fiala, Kulikov, Sturm and maybe Kähkönen as a backup for the Lions.

One was an AHLer for most of 2015-16, one is Sidney Crosby.

But we’re talking Lucas Raymond, who’s off to a great start on his rookie season. At any rate, I don’t know if he’s given on the final roster by any means, but on a 50 man roster?

50 man roster ~ 25 forwards. List of some forwards probably ahead of Raymond before the season:

Bäckström
Zibanejad
Pettersson
Landeskog
Nylander
Forsberg
Karlsson
Lindholm
Backlund
Eriksson Ek
Bratt
Johnsson
Arvidsson
Kempe
Johansson
Hörnqvist
Olofsson
Wennberg
Järnkrok
Silfverberg
Rakell
Lundeström
Janmark
Fast
Burakovsky
Lindblom
Sundqvist
Nyquist
Hagelin
Höglander

The list was submitted before the season really started, and Raymond wasn't really torching the SHL either

Well that certainly explains things, I got the impression that they had finished the list in the last few days. As highly touted as he’s been, I’d reckoned with him taking a huge step forward in the SHL last year, but I never really saw him perform with any consistency against grown men until just recently. Glad for him, but there was nothing implying he was anywhere near a best on best Team Sweden before this season.

Raymond now has 21 points in 22 games. He is not gonna slow down. He just that good already. Should be on the team. The best should be selected, no matter age.
