WC: Team Finland 2022 roster talk

If Switzerland wins their QF and we do, our SF opponent is one of Germany, Canada and Sweden.

Sweden wins and SF is Finland-Sweden
Canada wins and Germany wins SF is Finland-Germany
Canada wins and Czechs win, SF is Finland-Canada

We can't meet Switzerland or Czechs no matter what if Switzerland wins

If Switzerland loses and we win, we will play US in the semifinal.

1. Switzerland
2. Finland
3. Sweden
4. Germany
5. Canada
6. Czechia
7. US
8. Slovakia

It's Lammikko who I would drop at this stage.

No way on Bjorninen.

Swap Lammikko in your lines for Bjorninen and I'd like to see it.
I agree completely. He is a complete waste of good roster space at this level. Clearly the worst forward in team Finland. Offensively an absolutely useless player and even defensively he is just barely ok. The dude lacks seriously hockey IQ and skill. The only thing he is quite good at is physicality, but he can’t use even that too well for the advantage of his team because he is dumb as a brick for hockey at this level. The same applies of course to the NHL, but there his physicality helps a bit more to justify a 4th line spot in some of the weakest teams in the league.

Testing:
Heiskanen is better than dahlin

How long does it take to see AB13 popping up to re-start his mantra that dahlin is the new jesus ;)
Heiskanen is amazing offensively and he is also very good defensively. Haven't really seen him when we defend so thats very good for a D.

Why is Jalonen using Heiskanen so less?

He is by far their best D, but is not getting more ice-time.

Because Jalonen has a system where he plays each defensive pair and each forward line pretty evenly, to keep every player fresh and also well enough involved in the game. Sure the top pair and top line get a bit more ice time usually. But the difference to the other pairs and lines still isn’t very big.

Its amazing how the D improved so much after Lindell and Heiskanen joined. It wasn't bad in the first place but it has deflnitely lmproved.

I'm glad that Björninen is no more wearing the "junnu helmet". Björninen got upraded from a junior back to a man and that's exactly what we needed, no more junior hockey from Björninen. It's definitely more important than even having Miro Heiskanen in the team, just watch and see this thing unfold.

Poll resualts dont suprise me. Heiskanen can play d and offence. Dahlin can play offence but not d. Ofc Heiskanen is better. Yes, Dahlin is more physical but that does not mean he is good in his own zone.

I agree if we win the QF game lol. Heiskanen is looking like a beast though.

In my opinion it's too early to say. We have only faced one top team after they joined, the Czechs and that game was a weird one. I'm not saying that the Czechs tried to throw the game, but I'm saying that we will see a better Czech if Finland meets them again.

I see it more likely that something like this could've went down. Czechs played quite normal for 2 periods or they at least tried to. Then on the second intermission/before the 3rd period Gary Jalonen told them to watch for injuries and perhaps he didn't try to do any extra motivating in the locker room and the players probably were aware why Gary wouldn't yell at them in the locker room, because the more important game is their next game.

I guess his coaching would be perfect for teams like Seattle or the Islanders. I just don't understand the mentality of recycling coaches in the NHL, allegedly Tortorella is going to be hired again

I'm glad to hear. Ice hockey wasn't the same without Tortorella interviews. We'll get more of them now.

Dahlin is also improving in his own zone, it's not just about the offensive part. Heiskanen is a slightly more complex player than Dahlin, but if Dahlin plays in the club like the last two months of the regular season, he can get closer to him. If Buffalo hadn't wasted so much time on stupid player exchanges but hired a proper GM, the game of all players would have been far better. Now they have a decent core in Dahlin, Power, Cozens or Thompson, Krebs is also a good player. In my opinion, it will be a better team in the future than Detroit, for example. But they need a much better goalkeeper to make a significant shift.

Imagine Torts in Buffalo. He would bench Dahlin on the first mistake that Dahlin would do. Kind of what he did with Patrik Laine.

Buffalo has a coach, Dahlin just started playing more responsible hockey under Granat, it wasn't so much that Dahlin failed tactically, he didn't manage to return to his defensive zone.

No, thanks. I'd rather not even imagine it, because Tortorella has lost a lot of his reputation and I probably wouldn't offer him a job anywhere as a GM at the moment.

Still, I think Dahlin could play better for Buffalo.

After 2 peirods played I assume that CZE & SWE win now, so here are how the semifinal pairings would form:

FIN wins QF & SUI wins QF = Semifinals: SUI-CZE & FIN-SWE

FIN wins QF & USA wins QF = Semifinals: FIN-USA & SWE-CZE

SVK wins QF & SUI wins QF = Semifinals: SUI-SVK & SWE-CZE

SVK wins QF & USA wins QF = Semifinals: SWE-SVK & USA-SWE

Two most likely options IMO, can't see Finland losing to Slovakia

That aged well.

I think its mostly still the same, except Canada instead of Sweden. I feel like this is alright for us.. if we meet Canada we don't have the background home ice losing streak to think about against Sweden, so lets go Canada.. if we win that is

Yeah I'll just quote myself here.

Yeah you are right. I might even want to take Canada over Sweden as an opponent if it's SUI & FIN will be the other teams advancing.
