Only thing that comes into my mind about Seppälä is that he was running very hot emotionally in last US game. Maybe this was seen as weakness that USA would strike in this game to draw penalty or two. Just trying to figure out rational reason to select Pokka over Seppälä

We don't know if it's illness. Maybe they will ask Jalonen that in the pregame interview.

So according to this USA might be playing with only 4 D-man. Wow.

"NHL reporter Chris Peters says on Twitter that defender Jaycob Megna has had to return home from Finland due to sudden family reasons. This means a tough place for the US, as the team initially played with only five defenders."

"NHL-toimittaja Chris Peters kertoo Twitterissä, että puolustaja Jaycob Megna on joutunut palaamaan Suomesta kotimaahan äkillisten perhesyiden takia. Tämä tarkoittaa USA:lle kovaa paikkaa, sillä joukkue pelasi jo alun perin vain viidellä puolustajalla."

I can't link the URL because the forum is censoring a word from that URL lol.

Interesting to see how many players from this team will get a chance to play in the NHL. As far as I remember, quite a few "nobodys" from the 2019 winning team later made it to the NHL.

Yet Jalonen won't make it .

What else can he possibly do to get an NHL job? Why do teams choose to recycle the same coaches that keep getting fired?

Mikke 2+1 in the final. Big time player.

Michael Snipelund.

Btw I think that Manninen > Olkinuora as the MVP, but Olkinuora was a pretty good choice as well. Granlund could've been MVP as well even with his late arrival.

I want Jalonen for next year's home tournament at the WHC, so hopefully he can't resist the temptation, but maybe he feels like he achieved enough on international tournaments (yes he has lol).

I don't think many will 'cos this team was pretty old and a bunch of current or former NHL players. Seppälä got a NHL contract from Seattle so maybe him? Björninen is going to Sweden at least based on the current information. Like if he doesn't get an NHL offer by now, he's not going there. Olkinuora? I don't remember if he has a contract or not. Innala? Friman? I honestly don't see other than Seppälä getting a chance of those who are not current or former NHL players.

So much shitposting in the GDT. I called before the game, those refs suck. I thought they are going to be against us (again). For one time, refs mistake goes against our opponent, total shitposting starts. We took what belonged to us. No one will ever forget the refs in 2014, they were honestly blatantly paid off, it was not just two penalties, it was 10. Still then we didint shitpost as much.

Looking for best on best gold with good refs.

In my opinion Manninen definitely will go and Vatanen will go back to NHL (he has an exit clause in his Swiss league contract). Säteri's short NHL contract expired right? I have no idea if he stays in the NHL.

Players who could go but probably won't for various reasons:
-Olkinuora
-Seppälä. MTV3's studio team suggested him as potentially NHL ready.
-Ohtamaa. I don't think that he wants to go. He seems to just love playing in Finland. Our David Krejci in that sense.
-Lehtonen should go but I'm not sure does his Switzerland contract have an exit clause.
-Mäenalanen. Finnish media has talked about him going back to NHL maybe.
-Björninen. I almost forgot him, but he seems to be locked in Sweden. I don't know why he signed there if he doesn't have an exit clause.
-Hartikainen. He has everything needed except the skating speed, so I don't know about him, but he's way too good for any European league. The guy deserves his 750k-1 million euro salary. I don't know if he can get that in Europe, outside the KHL?

They choose their buddies or former players. Maybe Tuomo Ruutu has a better chance.

Brad Lambert's uncle will be a head coach there. I don't know the guy, so he might be a good coach, but the thought of him being a head coach in the NHL over Jalonen sounds funny.

The crying was pretty funny, considering Sillinger deserved a slashing penalty instead of a highsticking one, but penalty regardless and that they already had missed few calls on their side.

And then it became even funnier after Heiskanen got crosschecked head first to the post, wasn't called and they got the 3-2 goal right after it and that was apparently okay.

Won in the end though, so doesn't really matter.

I'm glad that I didn't read that thread then. Maybe I'll speed check it tomorrow.

It seemed like Canada's strategy at the end of regular time was to make as many fouls as possible since none will be called and it worked. I'm glad that the guy didn't kill Heiskanen with that goal post thing. It looked so ugly.

3on3 in any WHC final is always complete BS and we got our share of that in 2021 WHC after dominating the 5on5 play and then Canada got their only chance where their better top end talent would shine, 3on3. I knew that it was over then. So now it's fair and even 1-1. We deserved the win today.

WHC final should be one full OT period of 5on5 or 4on4 and after that period make it 3on3. The game would usually end on the first OT = 5on5/4on4.

Agreed, no penalty shots ever please and a full period of 5v5 would be optimal for me.

They just don't want the game to possibly last for that long, which i kinda get, but also hate.

This rule must be some kind of Rene Fasel brain fart. Maybe Russians wanted it to be 3on3 for their individuals to shine, since they can't do proper 5on5 game most of the time. Our new French IIHF boss should fix this thing. He already made a good decision in letting Finland host the next WHC tournament as well :).
