I think fears that this team will drop to b. league are exaggerated. They aren't so bad, there are still teams like Great Britain or Italy which every finish squad should be able to beat no matter with which roster.
May I remember you that Finland won against Russia and the Czechs by the preparation games? I know these games aren't very meaningful but it proves at least there lies some potential in this squad. In every case enough to win against teams like Great Britain or Italy or France. ( I know Finland lost already against France ). Furthermore they have now with Jalonen a better coach than last year, I think.

The bigger fear is that this team actually beats a whole lot of NHL players and solidifies the move to NHL size rink in Europe.

Hungover Canadian super team getting dumpstered by that roster in the 1st game? NHL doesn't looks so hot after that.

Can you tell me PP units? Who played 1st PP pre games and what would be finnish 1st PP against Canada?

Thanks you for answers.
Answering this question yesterday was pretty difficult, because it would have been all guesswork. However, today they practiced with:

PP1 - Rajala - Ilomäki - Savinainen - Pesonen - Lehtonen

PP2 - Kakko - Manninen - Ojamäki - Jokiharju - Kaski

Hintz is hurt, Heiskanen is worn out after playing so much hockey at only 19, and Lindell needs a contract. Whether the Stars won or not in Game 7, no help was coming from them.
You missed the point. They're semi-officially saying they're not coming, apparently before even asking, because I can't see how they can be keep asking and nagging before the series is even over. The coach/GM is not a psychic and you are not either. Imagine if it now turned out that a player that was "not coming" suddenly speaks to some Finnish media that he wants to come.

This is indeed what is happening. It's true, the NT management does not harass the players mid-series, at least as long as they are still building the team themselves. But it changes once the initial team is named. After that, it becomes important to know if there are any potential comers, because they need to know if they should leave any roster spots open, and at what positions. (Last year, it was reported that Haula would have come after the second round if Vegas hadn't advanced, and this was before it happened.) This is often handled through the players' agents, who are in good positions to make the preliminary inquiries without disturbing them too much. They can also handle the preparations if the answer is yes, because in these cases the player often needs to be on the first plane out.

The minor intrusion is both for the NT's and the player's benefit. Because it would be a really embarrassing if the player would want to come and they couldn't invite him, because they just gave the last roster spot to a player of lesser stature. The audience would no doubt question such a move too.

PP2 looks exciting and promising. PP1, no comments.
I think it's good to Kakko be on the PP2 (to start at least). This way he can be the playmaker. If he was on the PP1 to start, he'd likely have a net front (etc.) role. Same goes for Kaski too.

I'm seriously a bit concerned about the general opinion among fans who are buying all the lies that media spews out. It's far from reality that it's becoming a trend that our NHLers are declining in droves. Now with that off my chest, I'm looking forward to watch what Kakko, Jokiharju and above all Lankinen(if he gets the chance) can achieve in this tournament.

worry not then, because this sure as hell isn't any Canadian super team at the whc this year, have you seen the roster?

That's nice..........but the rest of the roster is mostly pretty damn meh, the U.S and Russia certainly have far more firepower, on paper anyway.
Russia always come with these kind of rosters. They rarely win anyway because they dont play as a team.

What lies spewed out by media? If anything, they've been doing their darnest to downplay it, almost been bending over backwards to understand the players' reasons, even those that do sound a little feeble. Now, there are plenty of random Joes off the street who are raving about this in social media, but that's not the same thing.

You're right, there is no trend. It's the bandwagon effect. When there's even a single yes among the first five you ask, it notably lowers the bar for the next ones to accept the invite. But if you get all nos, the ball's now rolling in the wrong direction. Okay, I guess the bandwagon effect is a trend, but it can be something that is either positive or negative, depending on the year, and the previous year's direction has little effect on that of the next.

It doesn't make it ok to sound false alarm just because they eventually tell the whole story. So the question is why do they put their headlines the way they do? Because they are skilled at what they do and people who are only focused on the "sensational stuff" is what I'm concerned about.

What the bloody hell? It is definitely newsworthy that they are declining in droves. BECAUSE THEY ARE. Some have declined several times in a row already.

Delusional would be to try to deny that or downplay it.
