The Russians, Czechs and Swedes have had many of their best possible defensive players with them in recent years. Except Finland!
Finland also never has more than 10 NHL players at a WHC, although they have more NHL players than Russia or the Czech Republic. Besides, I can't remember the other 3 hockey nations having 0 players from overseas(NHL), like Finland now. What's this all about?
You sure? Czechs have their best defencemen this year, but our best d corps are below average in AHL at best and there is small sample of them, we haven’t had all of them until now.

You got one thing right, the last name. Best coach Finland has had is Kari Jalonen. Players wanted to play for him and did very well.

Jukka is a drunkard who got handed a great team in 2011 and has been riding the gravy train since then. Clearly players don't want to play for him, but heck, this is Finland, so we recycle the same people over and over.

WTF?
Thats libel , false, and Putin troll factory level of ‘alternative facts’

Nothing surprising about Finland winning today. Finland was better prepared with excellent coaching staff. Hopefully this good preparation by Finland will get us wins over Slovakia and USA as well.

2011 was Jukka Jalonen Yes, atleast for me he is already established as the best coach of my time in Finland. Being from Hämeenlinna may have something to do with it though..

I'm Helsinki based and think so too about Jalonen. Only Erkka Westerlund and Kari Jalonen come close. Also personally I liked Raimo Summanen, but Summanen's and Kari Jalonen's jobs as the head coach both ended too soon for different reasons.

Anttila as a captain reminds me of Talvitie as a captain. Hard-working and big heart & soul kinda guys.
Weird that he haven't captained a team before.

Why is Tyrväinen starting instead of Luostarinen? Luostarinen were great last night.

I'm fine that Lankinen starts again.

Anttila really only has been in beastmode for couple years and he blossomed under Jalonen's tenure in Jokerit. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if Anttila became Jokerit captain next season too. Fans really love him.

I remember the time when Anttila played for Ilves here in Tampere. We used to laugh at how clumsy he was and how he constantly made terrible decisions with the puck, largely because he wasn't able to look around him as he had to watch the puck all the time to keep it under control. When Geoff Platt had to play with Anttila, he was rolling his eyes and shaking his head a lot because you were unlikely to receive a pass from Marko when you got yourself open.

There was one thing Anttila was good at though when playing for Ilves: when he just skated with the puck back and forth from corner to corner in the offensive zone, he had a good chance of drawing a penalty because it was very difficult to strip the puck off of him cleanly. When he stopped skating from corner to corner and tried to create something, it usually didn't end well. I still remember it when Ilves was playing Jokipojat in the relegation series in 2010 and Anttila tried to do a Denis Savard spinorama around a Jokipojat D-man. It was one of the funniest things I've seen in Hakametsä. Needless to say he wasn't able to pull it off, but somehow he managed to stay on his feet, and that alone was a result with his skillset.

We need only Marko Anttila and Kaapo Kakko and we are good. :sarcasm:

I said I didn't expect Kakko to be our "saviour" but he absolutely has been..
Yes both of them has been great, didn't expect Rajala and Ilomäki to be this good as well.

I'm almost hoping for a loss against USA, i don't wan't that inevitable loss to happen in the QF :(

I want a QF revenge from Switzerland. Hopefully Finland faces them, even though they are very good.
