Did Jukka Jalonen already communicate with which goalie Finland will play in the first game against Canada? I read that Juho Olkinuora showed a very strong performance against the Czechs by the EHT games 5 days ago. Or is Kevin Lankinen number 1 goalie?

Regardless of the team being weak compared to some of the other big countries, im excited to see some of the players. I haven't seen Rajala play a game since U-18's tournament - damn that's 10 years ago

Also Kakko obviously.

Can this actually be true? Would Jalonen say no if Heiskanen and Lindell, the 2 best d-men in Finnish hockey right now says they're available?!

No he wouldn't. Heiskanen, Hintz and Lindell have told him they're not coming. Lindell was always a long-shot cause he has an expiring contract. Would have been nice to see Hintz and Heiskanen though. I hope they make it to the conference finals and Colorado beats San Jose. Finns would be playing in central roles in every remaining team.

Just imagine Carolina vs Dallas SCF! Would mean the most finns ever playing in a final best of 7 round.

In deed the crappiest team ever on paper. It usually means they go far though.

It will be interesting to see how our liiga boys do against good players. I'm glad we have Tyrväinen to keep the legacy of Ruutu and Komarov going. Other interesting players, Hakanpää, Kakko.
But what problem do the Finnish NHL players have with the association? This is really weird. What will it look like in the future?

Jalonen seems to be quite optimistic he thinks the situation will be better in future as there will be many players with long-term contracts in the NHL.
The chances should be good in the next years to obtain top players from the NHL for the WC according an article in YLE from today, if I understand it correctly. I don't speak Finnish but this is what I can read from the google translator though the translation from Finnish to German is often not very useful.

This is btw the link: Leijonien Amerikan-vahvistusten maalisaldo NHL:ssä on pyöreä nolla

May be somebody from Finland can confirm if it is correct.

So this is it, the final team. The team that needs to pull off a miracle if we are to win a medal. Let's now focus on these guys :thumbu:

Miracles happen sometimes....
Yes, like today. Liverpool beating Barcelona with 4-0 and 4-3 on aggregate to reach the Champions league final! Sorry little bit off topic...

I can see us winning a medal, but to do so we need to play close if not perfect.

To everyone pining after Leskinen and Turunen: Both were playing with injuries.

Not according to Jalonen: Leijonat lähti MM-kisoihin, mutta Liigan pudotuspelien pisteykkönen kieltäytyi kisamatkasta: NHL:stä ei tule enää ketään

”Turunen ei tässä kohtaa ollut riittävän hyvä päästäkseen ilman kevään pitkää maajoukkueleiritystä suoraan kisoihin. Hän ymmärsi sen itsekin”, sanoi Pennanen.

Turunen wasn't good enough yet to make the team without a training camp and he understood it himself.

Oululaisten ja pudotuspelien pisteykkönen Ville Leskinen kieltäytyi kisamatkasta.

Jalonen ei halunnut kommentoida kieltäytymisen syytä. Hänen mielestään kieltäytymisen syistä kertominen kuuluu Leskiselle.

Leskinen turned down an invite.

IIRC first translating things to swedish and then your language actually gets you better results when translating from finnish

That's roughly a correct translation.

Why do they know this beforehand? At the time of this news link the series was not even yet over.

Surely they don't keep "calling" the players directly, but asking via the NHL's team's management side?

Hintz is hurt, Heiskanen is worn out after playing so much hockey at only 19, and Lindell needs a contract. Whether the Stars won or not in Game 7, no help was coming from them.

Sooooo, injured yet was Stars best forward in the play-offs
it's amazing how well injured players play...

He was blocking some big shots in the last few games.

Heiskanen- Lindell- Jokiharju would change the defensive look completely, and Hints speed would be very usefull.
But sadly atleast neither Lindell or Hintz will come.

He blocked a shot in Game 6 that took him out of the game for a while and played on a bum foot on Game 7 . Was noticeable albeit he still was one of the better players. He also have some wierd protection thingy for Game 7 that Sportsnet showed on the skate where he hurt his foot .

Actually i don´t even care how this years WC will go.. i just hope that we are not gonna drop to b. league... I can even see that happening with this roster. Lets just get our NHL.rs under contract and have better luck with injuries and stuff like that next year... Everyone just should now focus this roster and this tournament... Nothing to lose with this squad.

Lineup at first practice:

Rajala–Ilomäki–Savinainen
Pesonen–Manninen–Kakko
Kiviranta–Luostarinen–Ojamäki
Sallinen–Lammikko–Anttila

Lehtonen–Ohtamaa
Lindbohm–Jokiharju
Koivisto–Hakanpää
Mikkola–Kaski

I think fears that this team will drop to b. league are exaggerated. They aren't so bad, there are still teams like Great Britain or Italy which every finish squad should be able to beat no matter with which roster.
May I remember you that Finland won against Russia and the Czechs by the preparation games? I know these games aren't very meaningful but it proves at least there lies some potential in this squad. In every case enough to win against teams like Great Britain or Italy or France. ( I know Finland lost already against France ). Furthermore they have now with Jalonen a better coach than last year, I think.

I like this lineup, good to switch Savinainen and Kakko around. Rajala need a gritty winger alongside him, Savinainen brings that. And Kakko with his playmaking and creativity will bring out the best from Pesonen & Manninen.

Don't have so much to say about the back end, Kaski haven't impressed on me. So not surprised. Also looks like Jalonen wanted to go with more experienced guys.
