Eh, Kariya is the guy in Nashville to those outside of Nashville.

In Nashville, this is a team. If there has to be "a guy" it's Vokoun. Ruling Vokoun out, it's Sully, then Kariya. Not a knock against Kariya, but there is a huge sharing of the wealth with these guys. It hurt Kariya's chances, but oh well.

David

Signing with Colorado last season hurt his chances too.

TSN said they didn't have to pick the taxi squad till a few weeks before the Olympics. Why pick those guys now, wouldn't it be better to evaluate the 3 guys for another month. It's a cheap way of getting out of the why didn't you pick player X question.

Bertuzzi started slow but has been excellent the past few weeks now that the rust has shaken off. When he's on his game, he's not just "good", he's right with the best forwards in the league, which is why he's on the team. None of the alternatives can bring what Bertuzzi does when he's on.

When he's on. Who knows if he will be? He's played well for a few weeks, wow.

The taxis are better than most of the regulars.
No kidding. I'm fine with McCabe not on the team, though I agree with him as an alternate (plase don't try and tell me Boyle is better) but Spezza and Staal should've made this team easily ahead of Draper, and Doan and also should've received heavy consideration over Bertuzzi, Nash, St. Louis and a few others.

Interesting ponder,
there was pressure to not take Bertuzzi (Moore), Heatley (Snyder) and Doan (Remark) for this team, I wonder if there was similar pressure for Sutter to not take Downie on the WJC team?

Frankly, I am much more upset by what Downie did then say a guy like Heatley or Bertuzzi, because they have at least served a punishment...

When you have so many talented players to choose from, it seems only fair to choose those that are currently playing the best at their positions, no?

I won't deny that Nash is one of the best in the game, but has done nothing this year due to injuries. Not his fault, but others have earned the right to represent their country by their play on the ice. Especially since they have international experience everywhere on this team, they should have included some of the young, new players that have truly earned the right.

It's not a slam on Nash. Other players have performed better this year even if that's only due to them being on the ice and he being the pressbox.

David

I understand what you're saying here, that he hasn't had a chance to prove himself over the past couple of months, but I think his excellent play over the past two years (national and international) has earned him a spot.

Also, I'm not getting the "new" player reference, Nash has only played in 1 international competition and 0 Olympics. I'd think he would be the perfect new player for the Olympics.

What's with all the blind Bertuzzi hatin going on?

He had a bit of a slow start, which is reasonable given the amount of time he's been away from the game, but in the last 2 weeks he's been dominant. He's the strongest guy on that team in terms of brute strength and looking at that team that's saying a lot. He's a special player with his combination of pure size, skill, and speed. Team Canada needs what Bertuzzi can bring to the table and he immediately adds another dimension to the team in terms of sheer power. If you take him out the team has too much finese up front and not enough meat to go with it.

Absolutely. Especially in the Heatley's case.

Interesting stat:

Only four teams are sending two players to TC, and they all reside in the NW.

Vancouver: Bertuzzi, Jovonovski
Calgary: Iginla, Regher
Colorado: Sakic, Blake
Edmonton: Smyth, Pronger

columbus : Nash, Foote

Crosby is a non issue as far as I am concerned. As good as he is, Canada is too deep to have him on the team right now.

Us Canadians can all get together and back Todd Bertuzzi!

Go Bertuzzi Go!

I wouldnt say that since Foote signed in Columbus and is having a bad season, and he is going to be in Italy. He was chosen over guys like Phaneuf, McCabe (Taxi), Boyle ( :shakehead ),...
