The Olympics are held in Febuary not December

Yeah but they picked the team now dumbass and I dont think they should pick guys just based on what they can potentially do but what they are doing right now. He does'nt even deserve to be on the taxi squad that pick was a ****ing disgrace.

I think Kariya should be there instead of Draper and Staal should be there instead of Doan and we would have the best team possible.

Kariya - Sakic - Iginla
Heatley - Thornton - Staal
Gagne - Richards - St. Louis
Smyth - Lecavalier - Bertuzzi
Nash

Pronger - Blake
Niedermayer - Redden
Regehr - Jovanovski
Foote

Brodeur
Turco
Luongo

I understand their wanting Draper for a defensive role but a guy like Marleau would be a better choice for such a capacity. Marleau has so much more utility due to his ability to become an offensive threat when called upon. Draper's offense is almost non-existant.

You know, you can take shots at those people that are claiming that Staal and Spezza should be on the team by suggesting these people believe they should be there only because they are rookies. Not true and a little lacking in class, but whatever.

Staal and Spezza have earned their way on the team, and not as waterboys. When you play they way they have, seems someone owes them an apology.

David

You're taking the joke out of context. I had Spezza on the team that I put in the office pool for this. I had Staal on my taxi squad.

However, those two were up against Thornton, Sakic and Lecavalier for the spot down the middle. Draper is an exclusion because Spezza and Staal won't be filling a grind/shutdown role. In the end, you go with the guys who've been there before. The three guys they took have done nothing to embarass themselves this year and if Nash (or anyone) goes down injured, these guys are the first call.

We look highly upon the young guys, given the nature of this site, but stats don't tell the whole story. Experience does matter, and those two will get a chance soon enough (maybe even this Olympics).

I am really happy to see Bertuzzi on the squad. He was one of the best performers in the summer camp and will be a force on the team. Nash-Thornton-Bertuzzi could end up being our best line (if that is what Quinn goes with). I hope he has a huge tournament and people from all over Canada cheer him on. It would be nice to have a few less boos when he visits the other Canadian cities after the tournament.

The one thing I disagree with the most is Rick Nash. *** is someone who has played something like 4 games all year doing on the team? Damn there should be so many players going instead of him. I hope he gets injured so Spezza or Staal will play even if a center has to move to wing.

So what was it like being in a coma during the world championships last spring?

I think that would have a decent chance as well. Certainly not as impressive as the first team.

Good job... I think this team could challenge for a medal

I really hope Quinn puts Bertuzzi with Thornton, I think they'd be unstoppable. Talk about wearing opposing defenses down.

Gagne - Sakic - Iginla
Heatley - Thornton - Bertuzzi

Good luck stopping those two lines.

what Nash is doing right now, is scoring in every game since he's been back. His return has changed the whole chemistry of the team. Don't judge Nash by what he could do...judge him by what he has done, is doing, and will continue to do. *** would you wish more injury to him just to see another player play? nice karma.

The main reason why Crosby didn't get the call:

Mario: Wayne, don't pick him, the wife and I are planning on going to Hawaii for the break and we need him as a sitter

Wayne: OK, Mario, have fun in Hawaii. Don't drink too many Mai Tai's

I think given Nash and Thornton's history (HC Davos and the 2005 WC-A) I would think it would be

Nash-Thornton--Berzuzzi
Heatley-Sakic-Iginla
Richards/Gagne-Lecavalier-St. Louis
Doan-Draper-Smyth

A few bad picks imo, and no, Bertuzzi isnt one of them. I could care less that he made the team. I dont like Draper. He's a mediocre player, nothing more, and I dont care if he's a great defensive forward or checker..with so much talent on one team, that should hardly matter much as I think scoring is what is most important on the team. But the thing is, we have a whole ****ing line of checkers. Draper, Smyth and Doan. Which to me just proves that this team was already picked way beforehand pretty much.
Also, St,Louis..they wanted some speed, well Kariya has that in droves, and plus, I feel he is more talented then Martin. Kariya could have replaced him.

You think they'll keep the Thornton/Draper/Doan line together?

Or try Nash/Thornton/Bertuzzi together? :teach:

Iginla-Thornton-Bertuzzi.

PLEASE.

I like the team, exactly like I would have picked except for Doan and Draper.

Can anyone fill me in on what the deal with the "taxi squad" is?

Lowe said all twenty six members of team Canada are going to Turin, so does that mean that they do too?

Do they get medals if Canada should happen to win one? :dunno:

The taxi squad is just there in case of injury...that's it..if no one get injured they can't play...no medals nothing..can't even practice with the rest of the team

Ouch. I mean, just being associate with Team Canada should be an honour, but it really seems like a raw deal.

They'll just hang out in a hotel room in Torino and watch TV ...

Looking at the Canada roster, I realize that out of a sudden life has become much easier for other teams :yo:

LMFAO. This is the best part of the entire thread.

I disagree with 3 choices and this is what i wanted to see :

Crosby or Spezza instead of Doan
Staal instead of Draper
Phaneuf instead of Foote

Other than that it's pretty much what i expected.

I totally agree with that, especially Staal. I can't believe Staal only made the taxi squad.

I assume you mean because they will get to fly home sooner?
