WC: TEAM CANADA 2023

I know it's a preparation game but Hungary isn't looking bad at all, decent skating in particular. I was expecting them to look lost on the NHL sized rink which requires much more skill with the puck as well as agility on the skates (acceleration, stopping, changes of speed...), but they look quite OK. Of course the Canadians aren't giving everything into the game, that's pretty obvious.

I was curious what they would be like style-wise with a deadpuck era former NHL coach like Kevin Constantine behind the bench.

theres one guy who is rushing with the puck real well, whoever he is he sure has shown some wheels.

Fantilli isn't either but he's here, with the response we got from NHL players this year this might become more common, who knows?

Fantilli is 18 years old. big difference. He missed last year's draft by a month. Celebrini won't turn 18 until mid/late June next year?

That first period was worth watching for the display of artistry from Looch alone.

Point taken,I'd argue Celebrini is more talented though.

If it were my decision neither Fantilli (this year) or Celebrini (next year) would be on my WHC roster. No way Jose. but If I'm wrong re: Fantilli , I owe @Czechboy beers prior to next year's Canada v Cezko game. How's he looking against Hungary? I'm busy with work. can't watch.

Myers at his tournament could go really bad.

He had a good rush where he put on the jets around a defender to get a real good chance a few shifts back.

And Canada silences the rabid crowd with their 3rd goal.

He's probably one of the better playmakers this team has.

Montys having to make some saves.

That shift prior to the Crouse goal, Myers again with some fascinating positioning. I was thinking he might be in Slovakia he was so far away from where he needs to be.

I expect Canada to be bad defensively at this stage but he's stood out in a bad way so far.

I didn't think he could be more random than he was in Vancouver. It seems like the kid who had such good positioning and used his reach so well when he was at the Sabres first camp is gone.

I saw him play well in his stint in Winny too but he's been going downhill ever since.

Oh well, he's here when no one else wants to be.

Yeah, I'm always interested if someone has a good tournament (and not necessarily statistically) how they carry that into the next season. He might be trying to show he's more than he has in Vancouver. Or just get his game more in order.

Elsewhere, that Glass line again with the push. That trio looks solid. Third goal off their sticks.

PP lines today

-----------Laughton---------
Toffolli-----Glass----Quinn
-----------Weegar-----------

-----------Veleno------------
Fantilli----Crouse------Krebs
-----------Joseph-------------

Cody Glass is having fun in this game. Most of the Canada players are taking it as a nice warm-up, they have been really passive in their own zone in particular. Hungary could have score a couple of goals but it is apparent their finishing skills aren't exactly top notch. But they are skating well and I would point out their very solid physical play.

Monty has been pretty solid when called upon today, still think Levi will be the guy when the dust settles but it's nice to see him have to make some good saves today.
