WC: TEAM CANADA 2023

I was reading a story on Fantilli and it was thrown in that Canada is practicing over in Budapest right now. Fairly cool spot outside of the same old training locations.

Every year, I sound like an owl when reacting to some of these announcements. "Who? Whoooo?"
There was a burst of beer onto my laptop's keyboard because of this comment. Thanks! :D

In Finnish onomatopoetics same goes as: "Huhuu", "Huu". 'Huhuu?' is generally used in meaning of 'Are there anyone?' or 'Does anybody hear me?'

Your English 'who' would go as "Kuka v***n [player's name here]?"m in this context.

F***ing Walman always getting injured before playing for Canada.

Must be a US conspiracy /s

Carcone is kinda interesting. Had a very good season with Tucson this year.

But O'Reilly and fex Bunting would fix a lot for this team now! Marner/Tavares etc is not likely.

Well, I guess those two are our "significant" late additions.

That's pretty much a wrap for me then... See you all Labour Day Weekend for Team Canada Prague Powerhouse 2024 edition.

I am wondering how many Canadian players looked at the map where Latvia is, and said "damn, that's next to Russia, I am not going there, what if something bad happened with the security situation?" I mean, nothing bad is going to happen, but obviously the players usually don't know much about the actual situation in Europe.

Hopefully more great players will come to Prague next year.

Canada is the leading NATO EFP contributing nation in Latvia, with a large presence of Canadian forces stationed near Riga, with a bunch of Canadian officials visiting them from time to time. There's going to be a bunch of the military personnel and their families in the stands.

If something were to happen in Latvia, Canada would be literally the first country pulled into that.

Yes, I know that Latvia is a very safe country with a strong NATO presence and people educated in international relations and similar fields know it. A friend of mine, a soldier, recently spent some time at a NATO base there. But do the players know?

I mean, when I was talking to some people from North America about Europe, often they had no clue about the countries, their life standard, political system, security situation. I know about a guy from the NA he was playing for Pardubice and was seriously worried prior to his arrival about the security on the streets, the political stability in the country and so on. So I got the impression that many North Americans' imagination about Europe, especially the Central/Eastern Europe, can be a bit weird. And given what's on the news worlwide now...

I am no to blame the North Americans. We as Europeans don't know much about individual US states either. But I wouldn't be surprised if some players were worried about the security situation in Eastern Europe now. I am still remembering the guy asking the staff in Pardubice about the accessibility of internet connection in the city and the necessity of carrying a gun when going out...
