If there is not a true best-on-best tournament anymore (last one was in 2014), then I would have thought that players, who are healthy and available, will take this as a great and basically only one opportunity to represent their country on currently best international tournament. That's how I see it.

It is indeed disappointing to not see at lest a few star players. The roster is at least young and skilled and mixed with some solid veterans who will work hard. I think they will do well, and there will be additions.

Your expectation is reasonable but in my opinion doesn't match the way Canadians view international hockey. I would basically say, and other Canadians can disagree if they want, that only best on best team Canada are viewed by the general public as a real team Canada, at least at the senior level. World championship teams, which factually a team Canada, are kind of like a different entity because the tournament is not highly valued and history is full of Canadian teams at this tournament that did not feature anything close to the country's best.

That might make Canada weird but it's how I perceive it.

Joel Hofer is a good get for the net.

I actually like the roster in terms of goaltending.

Yeah, bub, you mean to say there's no guarantee for Canada to finish above anyone else – after all, they got thrashed by Sweden at the U18 Worlds 0-8 only a few weeks ago, and barely managed to defeat Slovakia in overtime in the bronze medal game. This parody of a roster is arguably a lot worse than the U18 roster a few weeks ago, in relation to its peers, so it wouldn't be surprising for other teams to wipe the floor with them. And, as stated, it would certainly be deserved, given the disrespect shown towards the top international tournament by sending such a seventh-rate roster to it.

Maybe if the tournament was held when the NHL playoffs weren't going on then it would be a true World Championship. Either way I know the pride of representing my country as I did this coaching baseball. I'll cheer for these guys either way and honestly I don't think this team is that bad

We still finished ahead of y’all in the U18s and beat you for bronze with a “pitiful” team lol while y’all iced your best possible U18 roster. Our best U18s go to the Hlinka where they’ve won nothing but golds for the better part of 2 decades. Slovakias only medal from that tournament is a silver in a year where we didn’t even compete due to COVID. So again what is the point you’re trying to make here?

A team full of NHL professionals would absolutely destroy the U18s and it wouldn’t even be close. That’s how I know you’re a delusional troll. When was the last time Slovakia finished ahead of Canada at the senior mens worlds? Like 2012. Canada has won 3 golds and 3 silvers since then and has been in all but one final since 2015. Slovakia in comparison has had tournaments where they were fighting to NOT be relegated and didn’t even make the quarterfinals for a good stretch. Not a good troll job bub.
