WC: TEAM CANADA 2023

The national team consists of players who did not get into the playoff. If we follow the logic, then the following hockey players will be from the teams that were eliminated after the first round of the Stanley Cup.

It's not about the result, I want to see a strong Canada that can decorate any tournament with a large presence of stars

Goaltending might be a strength of the team if Monty continues his solid play or Levi takes the ball and runs with it which I have confidence he can.

And last but certainly not least.........we have locked in Jake Walman!!

Won't be the favourite going in but should be competitive enough to have a chance to play for Gold.

Is jake walman any good. I remember him trying out for u20 team USA then not being able to play due to some iihf rules. Then he tried out for team Canada and got hurt or cut I can’t remember . Flip flipped 😂 lol

I don’t remember the whole story. But is he any good ? Are we happy we have him locked up going forward ?

USA and Canada reached out to Walman, his odds looked better with USA and he indicated that he was going in that direction. Of course he had barely ever played in USA and didn't meet the minimum requirements for a dual citizen to play for a country, so Canada, where he actually comes from, was his only option. Then he got injured and that was that.

He's a pretty good player, good puck skills. Quite possibly the kind of player who looks better internationally than in the NHL due to his strengths and weaknesses. I think he'll be fine for this level.

Yuck.

Just… yuck. If this is going to be the future of World Championship Rosters then the entire tournament loses (and it has always been a vastly overrated tournament to begin with). Is this even our “C” squad? Maybe the “D”‘squad.

Maybe Canada uses this as a developmental international tournament for possible up and comers.

Glass, McBain, Fantilli & Veleno are all C, so I guess they will put Laughton on LW as with Philly this year.

Toffoli - Glass - Crouse
Laughton - McBain - Quinn
Krebs - Fantilli - Blais/Neighbours
Lucic - Veleno - Neighbours/Blais

My guess.

He's serviceable.
 
This is what happens when there is no best on best. The world hockey championships drew big names to Canada because it gave those players browny points when it came to Olympic hockey team selection.

I'm not changed my mind so why you're still predicting Finland vs Canada gold medal game.
I don't wanna see 4th straight Finland vs Canada IIHF worlds gold medal game.

But Finland vs Czech would be great final too.
We aren't yet paid back those 1999 and 2001 overtime loses against you so the time is now.

I'm sure that better guys were asked and they declined or they would be there. What are we supposed to do?

We will make it work somehow, this isn't a powerhouse tournament in terms of level of competition, it's just the skodas after all.

I think we are a medal contender but not GOLD... but ask me in a week.. then after round 2 of playoffs.lol

Currently, no one, on paper, is looking better than Finland IF Laine shows up. If he doesn't show up, you're still a gold fav but Laine plus Rantanen in this tourney is ridiculous!

FTR... I think Lucic will have a good tourney! I'm not kidding. He has no contract, he clearly wants to be here and he is a good player... it's not his fault he got overpaid and everyone hated his caphit. It's not that he sucked.. he was miscast. At the Skoda's, I think he'll be good.

If Panthers oust Maple-Leafs with 0-4 or 1-4 series win
should Tavares and Marner decline into IIHF worlds?

And what if Seattle oust Dallas Stars? are you guys truly declining the chance
to get one of Wyatt Johnston, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn to IIHF worlds?

We haven't been declining anything, the players have.

We can't order them to play under pain of death.

Still room to add a few (3) players. Hopefully we get a few late additions that are significant adds. (always the optimist)

A couple of NJD players will be great late additions. What this team needs is a little Newfoundland kitchen party. Dawson Mercer would be a terrific add.
