WC: TEAM CANADA 2023

Won't be the favourite going in but should be competitive enough to have a chance to play for Gold.
Not too far off, Finland is a narrow favorite by the skin of its teeth, and then Canada is right there behind them. Then a bit of a gap and Sweden and another big gap and you got the Czech Republic and USA, one more gap and Switzerland rounds out the list of teams that have an "any semblance in hope" chance based on betting odds.

I dont think its that bad, actually. Goaltending is good, the defence the same. Forwards is ok enough, but the problem is with the proven goalscorers, where they only have Toffoli right now.

But with only 20 names, they have five more spots. They will get one of two to come over after this round in SC to fix that problem.

I expect a slow start
Canada to lose to a third tier hockey nation like Jamaica
Non Canadian posters to declare Canada is shit at hockey and to troll the living shit out of the Canadian posters
Canada to get into the quarters in a lower seed while said posters declare Canada sucks
Canada will beat a higher seed from the other group (ideally of the fanbase that chirped them the most in week 1)
Posters will complain everything is rigged for Canada to win
Canada will meet Finland in final, will lose in OT
Finn posters (certain ones) will come and declare Canada is awful and on the decline (may other nation's poster will also chime in)

Let's see how close I am.

Its a weaker tourney (outside of Finland) and this team is every bit as good as any of them. While there is no Schooner line, there are no major glaring weaknesses anywhere. Solid overall.

Seems like yuu've been around here for awhile.

Obviously you hope for better names, but at least it's a young squad for the most part. Hopefully some of these guys get some good reps in and can benefit going into next season. I'm mainly looking forward to seeing or hearing about how Levi looks. Credit to everyone who shows up to play.

just seen the team ... wtf its not even a B OR C team this is like team E or F what a joke players should be proud to play for country to buzy spending there overpaid millions instead divas

This is every year.

Man this tourney used to have some stacked teams, we just don’t get those players to go now.

Would have liked to have seen Atleast Crosby.
Hasn’t been a best v best Olympic or World Cup hockey tournament since 2014-2016. There’s really no incentive for players to come and audition for the national team like they somewhat used to.

Young forward core, I would have liked to have Tyson Foerster to give them a really young shooter. He was really good in the AHL and Philly this year.

Defense and goaltending are good for this tournament. Me personally I can’t wait to see Levi and Fantilli play.

I agree that roster quality is being impacted by the lack of best on best competition. Armstrong is the GM of this team and is presumably the guy in charge of Canada at the best on best level. Generally guys should be trying to impress him. Doesn't seem to be the case this year.

I hoped they would invite Mike Matheson as he basically offered to go and he would be really decent addition. Defense and golatending are good otherwise.

This is a development tournament as far as Canada is concerned. There's essentially no prestige whatsoever to this tournament, so nobody should be surprised that you're not seeing star NHL talent. If you want Canadians to care about an international tournament, the IOC should allow the NHL to use their footage for advertising, and then NHL players would be at the Olympics. The Olympics is the only international mens tournament that has the prestige to warrant the best-of-the-best.

Pretty dismal team even for recent standards, but I've never seen Canada name fewer than 22 players for the Worlds so it's a near-guarantee at least two more are coming, and an outside chance they find four more willing participants (2F, 2D).

But to be frank unless the addons are Crosby MacKinnon Makar and someone like Barrie or Morrisey this team is still miles away from being remotely representative of Canada.

It's a dark day when you actually think Barrie would be a good addition to team Canada
