Thats at deal IIHF have made sadly enough, all about the money. But still have a sport where the World championship is not seen as the world champion is ridiculous
I think the issue is with 16 teams and thus 8 teams per group, it's a lot of logistics that would make it difficult for a Junior hockey city to host the World Championships. An NHL city isn't going to host it. Not with the NHL Playoffs going on (for one, knowing who is going to be still playing in the postseason by the time a city would need to be ready to host is just not possible, and the event just isn't a big deal in North America)

You will be waiting a long time to get your laughs,
I Know it will never happend, and its not ment that way, i love hockey all over the world, i have family in Canada, i would just love best on best on a respectful way. I loved the Canada Cups - World Cups . Olympics . But just give the only Best on Best U20 To Ca-USA and then Europe can have the "SKODA" thats not what the fans, of international hockey really wants. Because why they did that is , Canada - USA Earn money for their Young Development program under the U20. Europe earn those money with the World championship

We've all been crying for a best on best, no one is listening.

I would prefer a proper World Cup, think it's a much better fit then the olympics.

After how badly the NHL flubbed it up last time, I'm less inclined to give them another chance. Plus, and I know this is process over substance, I think a proper qualification process is important for a legitimate international competition.

I Cried 1 time 1996
Are you talking about when USA beat Canada ?

That was absolutely Vanbiesbrouck who stood on his head and stole The series. If it wasn’t for him canAda would have won in 2 games. But goalies are part of the team also and that is now history

They certainly messed up the last one that's for sure

I envision a joint venture between the IIHF/NHL and rotated between N.A and Europe. Not crazy about the rushed together aspect, game times with the olympic product and think a better product could be delivered then what that offers.

They just have to have vision and think long term, granted...........not the NHL's strong point to date.

It was Richter not the V man who shut the door in the final game. And he didn't steal that series, just that game. heck, we got the winning goal in one game on an offside.

Yes thats why it was so horrible , Canada should have won that so easily

Well, this country has been pretty good to his family, not saying they didn't or he didn't work for everything they got, but the life he has now likely wouldn't have been possible where they came from. Would like to see a guy give something back in a small way, he should want to play IMO. But that's just me.

We were missing some key guys that year but the U.S team had a real strong outfit that year, all through the tournament they were the strongest team in 96.

Best senior team they've ever had up to this point, hands down.

The U.S. had a good team that particular year and they played well all World Cup. Look at the group stage, USA went 3-0-0 in a group with Canada, Russia and Slovakia with a +11 goal differential. It might have been lightning in a bottle, which happens in short tournaments, but I wouldn't say they were a team that anybody should say that they should have lost easily based on the 7 games they played (4 against Canada in particular).

the roster pretty much says it all you look at the names ..................that was a real strong team from the goaltender on out.

Would love to have that one over with Mario Kariya, Macinnis and Bourque in the lineup though. be lying if i said otherwise.

Sure i am not saying they had "BAD" team, they was top of the POP, but they played as underdog, so they could let the "BIB" Teams come an attack, with no pressure

I'll let this be my last post onthis as it's a thread about this years WHC and I don't want to derail things but that U.S team also came in with a lot of attitude that year. They knew they had a lot of talent and while they respected Canada they were no longer afraid of them, they knew what they had at that point in time. They got to the finals against Canada in 91 but I knew they still were not quite ready and they were'nt. In 96 I knew they would be and we would need all hands on deck to beat them.

It sucked to not have all hands on deck. Mario Kariya Al Mac and Bourque could very easily have been the difference.

Alas.
