I think that the bigger issue with China is the many, many Uighurs being held in concentration camps for what they are basically calling re-education, at least for me. I know people from that group and the stories they get are fairly inhumane. I do not expect any kind of boycott though.

I'm curious about Hockey Canada's summer plans. I'd like to nominate Cape Breton as host of an evaluation camp. Basically no one has had covid to this point and there is a ton of golf, as Crosby and MacKinnon can attest to.
A boycott is not unrealistic in my opinion. Sanctions have finally been imposed on China by countries including Canada and USA. I hope that China loses the Olympics all together but that is unlikely.

Huberdeau - Mcdavid - Stamkos
Marner - Mackinnon - Stone
Bergeron - Crosby - Marchand
Scheifele - O'Reilly - Point
Barzal, Couturier

Chabot - Pietrangelo
Nurse - Makar
Parayko - Doughty
Letang, Hamilton

Keumper
Fleury
Price

My current stab at a lineup:

Stamkos-McDavid-Marner
Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Huberdeau-MacKinnon-Stone
Scheifele-O'Reilly-Point
Barzal

Theodore-Pietrangelo
Nurse-Makar
Chabot-Hamilton
Girard-Doughty

Rielly is the odd man out for now, but it's a thin line and he could pop up in a week from now.

Price
Blackwood
Binnington

Bolded are solid locks
Normal letterings indicate decent bets
Italics are flimsy and subject to change at moment's notice

I'd rather a guy like Hyman on the 4th line than Scheifele or Huberdeau.
I think Huberdeau will be next to either McDavid or MacKinnon on a scoring line.

Scheifele will probably be the 13th forward.

I could the 4th line being Couturier - O'Reilly - Stone. All of them are better defensively and on the penalty kill than Hyman.

That is the a true shutdown line.

You mean you prefer Hyman over Huberdeau who's been scoring at a 90 pts pace in the last 3 seasons or Scheifele who's been scoring at a 86 pts pace?

I'm talking about the player's role. Not saying these 2 don't belong the team. Maybe more in a scoring role.

I think Hyman should be considered in that 4th line role.

I did forget about Couturier tho...

Hyman is nowhere near this team as a 14th forward.

Predict 2022 Canada's Men National Olympic Team...

3 Goalies, 8 Defenseman, 14 forwards.

With a lines too, if you can.

I think we saw in '98 that taking players who play complementary roles in the NHL to play complementary roles on Team Canada isn't a good move. The skill level needed to play that role goes up as the competition gets better and the talent on the team increases. Canada already has a number of players who are good defensive players and/or can be effective forecheckers/puck retrievers: Bergeron, O'Reilly, Couturier, Stone, Crosby, Point. I think ultimately filling in the players next to those guys with star level talent gives the best shot to win.

Tried working Chychrun in there but I'd still currently like the 4 LD before him. Consider dropping a RD (Doughty) for Chychrun and moving Girard over to RD. but not yet.

MacKinnon seems to have righted the ship over the last several weeks. Right now a McDavid - MacKinnon - Crosby trio down the middle looks very nice.

Going to be awesome watching Canada crush everyone (so long as our goaltending holds up)

I would be highly surprised if we crushed any of the big 5, but I think even with the goaltending the way it is, no other country can match Canada’s talent line for line.

Though I wouldn’t say crush, barring a catastrophe no team with McDavid-MacKinnon and Crosby down the middle is losing

Honestly with how the world juniors turned out, the parity at the international best on best level is probably the best it’s ever been. Such an influx of talent at every level, position and that goes for every country.

Obviously Canada will be the favourite, but the way the Americans are built with their defence (Werenski, Jones, Hughes, Carlson, McAvoy, Slavin) + having Hellebyuck or Gibson is just straight up upset central.

Add in Matthews, Eichel, Kane up front and we’re end up quite some competition.

I don’t think that how one game played by no one in this discussion that could have easily gone either way matters to anything.

But, I could see any of any of the teams beating us, hockey is the team that the most talented teams get beat than any other sport.

Previous Team Canadas dominated with a strong, almost impenetrable defense. This iteration isn't going to have that. It will be more of an offensive, puck moving group. Can still achieve the same results but it will be a different look. I think a combo of Fleury and Price will be fine and the forwards speak for themselves. One of the clear favorites but an overwhelming one? I don't know about that. The top five all look very good.

It’s more of an example than anything, that a team on paper that was a lot deeper lost. And just because they did doesn’t make it a complete “catastrophe”.
