Of course, but I think the person I was quoting was arguing that the team will have no sand paper and will get pushed around.

I don’t think that, but I was making an argument against him.

lol yeah, I didn't expect my opinion to be popular at all, but I still think it holds some merit. Maybe I just want someone to beat up the Tkachuk brothers

Maybe we can make a line of:

Evander Kane - Nazem Kadri - Tom Wilson

To see how many misconducts and suspensions a team can end up with during an international IIHF hockey game.

Apparently Darren Dreger and the TSN panel wants to see Zach Hyman on the Canadian Olympic Team.

(came up during last night’s broadcast)

EDIT: % chance of Hyman making the Olympic team - Poulin 40% / O’Neill 100% / Dreger 60%.

I mean, at least O’Neill doesn’t even pretend to be objective. ;)

He’s more of an entertainer or provocateur.

Couturier - Schiefele - Stone

Who's going to be the Brendan Morrow 2010 of this team?

The player who will go out and just be ruthless in every facet of the game. Man he was a monster, in that historic game vs Russia he would fly into every Russian player at his top speed.

I hope this team can also play the aggressive game, because skill alone won't win a Gold medal.

Looking back Morrow’s name stands out a bit considering who was left off, but he brought something to the table in grit

I think O'Neill is being a troll, since he said 100%. It sounds like sarcasm. At least I hope so.

Dreger has always been a fool, so him giving 60% isn't surprising.

Poulin giving 40%? I thought he knew better than that.

The players who were left off were all left off for various reasons.

Crosby and Iginla were picked as a tandem. Getzlaf and Perry were picked as a tandem. Richards, Toews, and Bergeron were picked to check, kill penalties, and take faceoffs.

Staal and Nash were picked to be the extra wingers on the Crosby and Getzlaf led lines.

Morrow was picked to play on the checking line for a specific role. But Nash ended up there and Morrow up with the Getlaf line.

The most commonly stated "snubs" that people list are Stamkos, St. Louis, and Lecavalier.

But I remember at the time the team was picked, it came down to the following decision:

Heatley, Thornton, and Marleau as a package vs. Stamkos, Lecavalier, and St. Louis as a package.

Yzerman wanted to take 1 complete line with ready-made chemistry. He picked the Sharks trio rather than the Lightning trio.

I honestly don’t think it’s that crazy to suggest bringing someone like Hyman if he can maintain this current level of play, he’s actually been a beast in almost every game, every shift. He’s not the most skilled player we could bring, but having someone who will outwork any other player and win puck battles consistently and can also finish and make plays off his hard work, I don’t think it’s as preposterous as everyone is suggesting. I’d take him on the fourth line over Tavares, Couturier, maybe Stamkos, Hall, Barzal.

Jeff Carter was going to replace Getzlaf if he couldn’t go with an ankle injury.

Hyman at his best is still nowhere close to a Team Canada spot.

If they're stuck on a hard-working, shutdown line it's better to run O'Reilly - Couturier - Stone. Otherwise, you're likely going to see Scheifele and Barzal in the mix too.

These guys are a class above, proven in the playoffs, and proven at the international level.

Hyman should be nowhere near this team. Even Tom Wilson, who I have mocked other posters for considering, is closer than Hyman

Not my opinion. While neither Hyman or Wilson should be in the conversation for a Team Canada A-team Olympic tournament, if I were forced to choose just one, I'd take Hyman over Wilson. He's just a smarter player, more defensively aware, and more versatile. Wilson is just a prototypical NHL north-south player prone to being a bonehead suspension waiting to happen. I'd take Hyman make him the 14th. forward and pray that my 13 forwards I start the tournament with are the same ones that finish decorated in gold medals.

Oh, and Happy Easter to all. enjoy the egg hunt and whatever Easter feast you got cooking up!

Shame about Hart and Blackwood falling apart. Bizarre how Canada can’t develop goalies anymore

Crosby and Bergeron were picked as a tandem in 2010. They had chemistry from the 2005 WJHCs and 2006 WHCs, and Babcock wanted the RHS/LHS faceoff taking ability on the first line. The starting lineup in the first game of the tournament was:

Nash - Crosby - Bergeron
Marleau - Thornton - Heatley
Staal - Getzlaf - Perry
Morrow - Richards - Iginla
Toews

I think Bergeron got injured at some point in the 1st game against Norway and Iggy got moved up. And the Crosby/Nash combination was destined to fail as their respective skillsets don't complement one another.

I don't believe that Lecavalier was on the Stamkos/St. Louis line at that point (or at any point), but in any event he wasn't performing at an Olympic caliber by 2009-2010. St. Louis and Stamkos were, and in hindsight we likely would have been better of with them than Thornton/Heatley. Marleau was quite valuable on the PK in 2010 and Babcock went back to the well with him again in Sochi, where he had a very, very strong tournament.

Either Dreger and O'Neill (I'll give Poulin a pass) don't understand how Hockey Canada selects its Olympic or World Cup teams, or they're playing to their Toronto-centric audience. Fair enough on the latter, but I'd make a hefty wager that Hyman doesn't sniff the team. A total of 0 games representing the Maple Leaf internationally in his career? Hard pass.

Why didn’t Nash and Crosby play well together?

I believe Mackinnon and Crosby also had chemistry problems during the 2015 WC. Though, Mackinnon was quite young and not the player he is today
