Huberdeau - McDavid - MacKinnon
Barzal - Scheifele - Point
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
O'Rielly - Couturier - Stone

Would be fun to watch, Marner/Stamkos could swap in anywhere on the second line.

As much as it pains me to say it. Dubois has been massively better than Scheifele so far this year. He's really starting to round himself into a power forward. Drives the net, protects the puck well, getting shots off, has great hands. Though to be fair Scheifele had a weird start to the season with his suspension, covid and a nagging injury. But still if I'm building this roster I think I want more guys like Dubois on Team Canada.

In a short tournament, Price is the best goalie in Canada. Even if he's cold and hasn't started much. Price is a killer when he plays and last Olympics he was executive. Fleury, Binnington, Kuemper, Blackwood, Carter are all good, but not Price level.

Fluery has been pretty bad this year. As much as I like him I think it would be a travesty to take a sub .900 goalie to the Olympics. Current play should count for something. Binnington, Hart and Price should be the 3 starters. If Price isn't going then I think you look at one of Blackwood or Kuemper to take his spot. Give all 3 a chance to prove they can hold down the fort and role with whoever is hot.

Shame Pietroangelo is penciled in given how he’s been brutally bad this year. Like one of the worst in the league next to Seth Jones bad.

Suzuki is on the long list

He's been incredible after a slow start.
13 pts in the last 9 games playing on a team that struggles to score goals. He participated in 59% of the goal scored by the habs in that period.

I don't have him on my team, but Dubois could be our Rick Nash like power forward on the team if he makes it.

Ya I agree him and Theodore have both struggled in my opinion this year whenever I have watched Vegas play. The analytics back up their poor play as well. But Pietrangelo has been one of the best dmen in the NHL for awhile and maybe he is just overcompensating for the absences of Stone and Pacioretty by trying to do too much offensively.

How many players are on the long list? Are they released?

Canada has 56 players on the long list. The agreement in place is that they will not be officially releasing which players made the long lists.

I'll take a stab at Canada's long list out of boredom:

Forwards (31)

McDavid, Crosby, Point, Mangiapane, Wilson, Stamkos, Tavares, Marner, O’Reilly, Stone, Couturier, Scheifele, Bergeron, Marchand, Barzal, MacKinnon, Huberdeau, Horvat, Dubois, Kyrou, Perron, Toews, Suzuki, Giroux, Konecny, Danault, Hyman, Seguin, Hall, Couture, Pageau

Defencemen
(19)

Pietrangelo, Doughty, Theodore, Makar, Parayko, Pelech, Nurse, Hamilton, Ekblad, Rielly, Chychrun, Chabot, Letang, Morrissey, Weegar, Toews, Dunn, Spurgeon, Ellis

Goaltenders
(6 as Canada was allowed an exemption due to Price's status)

Price, Hart, Binnington, Kuemper, Fleury, Blackwood

Could see guys like Toffoli, Gourde, Cirelli, Pulock and others in place of those named.

1 month into the season, another update

Bergeron-Crosby-Marchand
Stamkos-McDavid-Huberdeau
Barzal-MacKinnon-Point
Couturier-O’Reilly-Stone
Giroux
Couture
Marner

Just missed: Scheifele, Dubois, Tavares, Hyman, Mangiapane, Suzuki, Nugent-Hopkins, Wilson, Kyrou, Danault, Cirelli

So many choices, hard to pick, the depth in talent is amazing. Look for RNH to perhaps wind up near the bubble if he can improve his 5v5 play

Toews-Makar
Theodore-Pietrangelo
Ekblad-Doughty
Byram
Hamilton
Pelech
Just missed: Létang, Burns, Parayko, E. Bouchard, Weegar

Toews coming back strong solves a lot of issues on the left side, Chabot has played his way far off this team; Evan Bouchard has been more secure with the puck and better than Nurse 5v5 this year in my opinion, he likely won’t make it though. Byram seems to have got hurt at the wrong time unfortunately as his play was taking off

Price
Binnington
Hart
Just missed: Fleury

The two back up options have played well, but if Price is anywhere near 100% he’s the starter

Overall a team with few question marks apart from maybe LHD but otherwise versatile players up and down the lineup with the obvious star power;

Pretty good list. I can’t fault you on your top 12 forwards or top 3 goalies. I wonder if Dubois makes it. He’s a big body and scores goals. Team Canada in the past like these types of players. Your top 6 defence is sound other than pelech not being in your top 6. For me, pelech is a lock to be a top 6 d on team Canada. He’s the best defensive d man from canada. And team Canada tend not to leave these types of players off the team.

I go back and forth between him and Toews to play with Makar. Similar players, either one could fit though, perhaps the game against Vancouver where they (Toews and Makar) looked amazing together playing together for the first time together this season influenced me. Also, thanks for pointing out, I was typing this out on the bike this morning and forgot the two Winnipeg centremen, Dubois has had a better season but the centre depth is crazy so it will be a hard job to make the team for those two

Sad to see that Chabot is no longer even being considered..
Yeah I want him to do well since he’s from my region but you would know better than me that he is overworked on Ottawa and can be loose with the puck; think after last season I would have had him on the left side but this season hasn’t been good at least in the games that I’ve seen, let’s hope for a rebound though

The one thing toews has going for him is he plays with makar. That won’t be overlooked by team Canada. Should be interesting to see how it plays out

Lots of rosters being guessed at, they’re all really good. The team will be awesome, and after the obvious core of 10-14 guys, you can kind of just play with the roster and it’s impossible to know if it’s better or worse.

All we need is goaltending, and injury luck.

Does anyone know why every nation had to announce 3 players to the team so early and why they had to make a 55 player long list. Like hypothetically speaking lets say someone not on the long list for Canada starts putting up 2 points per game from now until the deadline to select the team, since they're not on the long list that team Canada submitted does that mean they can't be chosen. Also, lets say Crosby puts up a 0.1 points per game (hypothetically speaking) and isn't the player he used to be, since he was named as one of the three players does he still make it. I just find it strange that they would limit their options this much when the tournament is still a decent ways out.
