I'd love to see Tom Wilson at the IIHF WC just to see what would happen, but a best on best tournament isn't the place for experimentation. The risk is too high in an IIHF setting, even with NHL refs in Canada's games.

Yeah I have no time for Tom Wilson even on that team. I wouldn't care if was a 100 pt. guy finishing up the season and offered to cover the expenses of all Team Canada family members to the tourney. He does hold down first line RW duties on my C Team Depth Chart. grudgingly. I'd prefer to have him buried on the F team.

besides, if he has time off in May he'd rather take in a Jays game than travel to Europe to play a few international friendlies.

I enjoy Wilson overall. He brings an element to the game that is increasingly unique and he is a good, impactful player. Not good enough for best on best and not a good stylstic fit at all. No idea about his interest in international hockey, though I will say that Canada was probably done a favour when he missed the 2014 WJC due to being in the NHL. Then again, that team was putrid so a sideshow may have been an improvement.

I think it's time we stop beating around the bush - after last night Marner is not only on the team, but he's also on the top line. So the only question is, who best complements Marner? McDavid wants the puck too much so he's gone. MacKinnon likes the big moments and Canada needs the puck on Marner's stick at the critical moments, so that's a big no. This is the puzzle that I'm sure is keeping the selection committee, as well as the coaching staff, up at night. The team is only going to go as far as Marner can carry it, so he may as well be put in the best position to succeed.

Marner has no shot, he needs to be with a C that can really shoot. MacKinnon would be my pick since his shot is excellent.

Huberdeau - McDavid - Stone
Crosby - Mackinnon - Marner
Marchand - Bergeron - Couturier
O'Reilly - Point - Barzal
Suzuki, Dubois

Theodore - Pietrangelo
Chabot - Makar
Nurse - Hamilton
Pelech, Doughty

Price
Hart
Binnington

I've become pretty set on six defencemen for Canada - Pietrangelo, Makar, Doughty, Ekblad, Theodore, and Pelech. That depends on Doughty's health as well as Makar's. I can definitely see Pietrangelo being moved over to the left side. I'd still like to see one of the left side contenders emerge and lock down a spot. Nurse, Chabot, Chychrun (his horrible start has probably taken his name out of contention) and even Rielly or Morrissey. I'm not big on Toews or Weegar. For the last spot some more right handers would enter consideration, such as Parayko and Hamilton, or maybe even a longshot in Letang if Doughty is limited upon returning.

At the moment I wouldn't be against rolling something like this at even strength:

Pietrangelo Ekblad
Pelech Makar
Theodore Doughty
LHD du jour, Parayko/Hamilton

With price unlikely to on team Canada I think it will come down to fleury and Kuemper to be our 1 and 2.

Price only makes it onto the team if he gets at least a couple weeks worth of games and looks good. Too much at stake. I get price had a good playoffs overall last season, but his season numbers are not inspiring.

Price will be back in time

The team will be named in around two months. It doesn't sound like we should expect Price at this point. I'd go with some combination of Kuemper, Binnington, and Hart at this point and I doubt that that is going to change, as uninspiring as it may be.

He will back by then, in Québec media they are saying a few weeks and could start playing for Laval within a few days

It's good if he's able to come back fairly early and succeed. I'm doubtful but you never know I guess. Some of the other candidates getting off to solid starts is a positive regardless of Price's status.

you should look at hes numbers with Team Canada, theres no chance Carey isnt starting unless hes not healthy

This is a ridiculous post. That was 5 yrs ago and 7 yrs ago respectively. He has been utter shit since

He's not in his prime anymore but he's still the guy until he shows otherwise. It's just how it works.

Nobody else has played well enough or has enough of a track record with Team Canada to push him out without him falling off himself.

Same goes for Crosby (seeing some people leaving him off the team).

I actually find the idea of putting MacKinnon on the right wing of McDavid and Huberdeau potentially intriguing. Then I'd probably do a Marchand, Bergeron, Stone line. Was thinking Crosby, Marner and maybe Point. Then Couturier, O'Reilly, Schiefle. Barzal and Stamkos the extras.

Not supremely worried about whose on what line, because besides maybe the top line, we know they're gonna be rolled pretty evenly anyway.

Crosby stats haven’t tailed off. Comparing Crosby to price is ridiculous. Price stats have been horrendous in the regular season, Crosby hasn’t
