Crosby stats haven’t tailed off. Comparing Crosby to price is ridiculous. Price stats have been horrendous in the regular season, Crosby hasn’t

0 P/g and -3 this year :sarcasm:

Seriously though, I don't necessarily disagree with you, I'm just telling you how it is.

He had a .924 in the playoffs last year and took his team to the SCF. It's really all that matters because of recency bias.

If Price returns to Montreal and craps the bed, then you have a discussion. Until then, it's his spot.

That's the second story Sportsnet has published regarding Mangiapane being on the long list, I don't know why. I guess because he's a surprising name. Maybe to annoy Bob McKenzie, since he probably knows every name but there is an agreement not to reveal the lists.

Jeux de Pékin : Équipe Canada aurait placé Tom Wilson sur sa liste préliminaire

WTF (!!!!)

I was somewhat joking when I said Tom Wilson has looked good, but apparently Jon Cooper wasn’t joking (link to English story in the article)

I think (hope) it's a waste of a spot but realistically how many forwards are actually in actual contention for a spot? I'd imagine it's not as many as they included on the list.

Without going too deeply into it I'd probably go with something like this for forwards at the moment, assuming that guys like Crosby and Stone are good to go in three months:

O’Reilly McDavid Point
Huberdeau MacKinnon Stone
Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Stamkos Couturier Marner
Barzal, Scheifele

PK:
Bergeron Marchand
Couturier Stone
O’Reilly Marner

PP:
Stone
Stamkos Point McDavid
Makar

O’Reilly
MacKinnon Crosby Huberdeau
Doughty/Whoever

How could someone even think they will healthy scratch crosby. Last season was 4th in mvp voting and was a lindsay finalist

Excellent start to the season and can skate like the wind, he won’t make it if everyone is healthy but any chance he made the long list? As b-team type players him and Batherson have really taken big steps this year

Not responsible enough defensively and the right side is stacked

Well he won every puck battle in the Calgary game playing 28 minutes and moved the puck out of his zone at an incredible pace. He’s just a big strong guy that skates silky smooth, has tons of composure.
I’d take him on the team in a second.

Our goaltending will be more than fine. In addition to Price being back now, we have three guys entering their prime and putting up excellent stats this year: Binnington (.928), Jarry (.926), and Hart (.924).

Jarry can’t be picked as he wasn’t on the preliminary list but the other two have certainly rebounded after two bang average campaigns last season

I didn't realize how many points Perron has put up recently. I think he probably doesn't quite make it but with his production and O'Reilly being his line mate he's got a chance if there are some injuries.

After seeing the Rick Nash thread in the main boards, just realized how small this team is. Canada needs more big kids playing Hockey instead of other sports.

Getzlaf, Marleau, Nash, Staal, Iginla sized players already becoming a relic of the past -_-.

Nah, you're just seeing fewer average size players with talent get their wings clipped before the big show for not being the right height.

I'm not sure that those guys are choosing different sports, but rather that player development has changed for the most part. Players aren't being developed for the dead puck era anymore, so size is less imperative. I'd be happy if Canada had a few 6'3 220ish wingers who could skate and score though. Stone isn't small at least.

The number 1 ranked NCAA basketball recruit is a 6'5 Canadian named Shaedon Sharpe. He just declared for Kentucky. I doubt that he would have been a legitimate hockey prospect at any point in the past but it would be interesting to see someone with that size and coordination at least playing defence.

All I'm asking for is for Nick Suzuki to be at the Camp. He can surprise.

And I'm for grit in the back with Pelech and Doughty if he comes back healthy. No time to have shiny all offense defence.

Price only makes it onto the team if he gets at least a couple weeks worth of games and looks good. Too much at stake. I get price had a good playoffs overall last season, but his season numbers are not inspiring.

In a short tournament, Price is the best goalie in Canada. Even if he's cold and hasn't started much. Price is a killer when he plays and last Olympics he was executive. Fleury, Binnington, Kuemper, Blackwood, Carter are all good, but not Price level.

I don't think the likes of Wilson and Mangiapane have much of a chance for the final team but it's nice they are recognized this way. That said, if the Team Canada staff gets infatuated with having some size/snarl (Wilson) look out! Maybe he can fight Brady Tkachuk.

Which of those 7 D are killing penalties against Ovechkin, Matthews, Pastrnak, etc.

Ekblad and Pietrangelo play significant pk time. Morgan Rielly actually has been this year too.
I'm not sure what's normal for a Canadian team (can you trust an elite player to play a role they don't play in the NHL). Guys like Weegar, Tanev or Nurse might be considered if Canada wants another dman who gets significant NHL pk time
