Don't think we can afford to stand pat and waste another prime Matthews year, you gotta try and get better. Ideally not a rental, but we should be looking to add. Goaltending is still a huge question mark, Jones/Samsonov are extremely inconsistent and Woll hurt.
My wish list would be Tanev + Markstrom or Fleury + high energy bottom 6 forward that finishes his checks. Not sure who who fits the description.
Honestly I was playing around on cap friendly...
We have no cap space and little to no high value assets
Cowan is our best asset and I dont want to deal him unless its for a Hagel type deal where you get 23-24 year old who you can extend 8 years who gives 60-70 pts
Minten value is a ~2nd, he hasnt had a good year in the WHL
Knies we arent looking to deal and even his value is lower now than 12 months
Robertsob similar, we arw trying to develope him inti a top 6 guy. To many injury issues with him in the past which hurts his value
Everyone else we have are sleeper prospects who are more valuable internally at this pt then on the market
Tverberg, Niemela, Greb, Chadwick. We are better off letting them play another year and see if they can take another 1 or 2 steps which helps them either be leaf players or high 2nd/low 1st level value pieces.
I think we should stand pat if we dont sell.
Tanev is a #4/5D and is similar to GIO when we got him. Dont thini he changes much for this team and would cist a 2nd + 3rd (so minten + 3rd or Niemela + 2 3rds). He likely extends if we trade for him but I dont think its worth making that type of move right now
This year and maybe next year are punts. You work with what you got and hope for the best. Team has 3 top 6 forwards (all three are superstars and top 25 players but still...)
