They may be out on Lafferty, but they still need a dman imo. Who knows what player JBB may be targeting, but there's no way this team goes into the playoffs rolling Fleury and Myers as their 7 and 8. The unit is struggling enough as it is.

Sens fan here, gotta respect JBB being aggressive in getting who he wants. Y'all are favourites this year and next at the least so might as well go all in

I imagine they asked for our good prospects like Huuhtanen and we said no. Better to give up yet to be used picks, than guys we've already started to develop and like.

I wish we could have shipped back Myers instead. Foote would not be such a big loss if we had decent depth back there. Now we need to make another move to add another defenseman.

I don't disagree but that's pretty much what we all said about Goodrow and the others. If you get Jeannot to be 15-20 goal scorer Jeannot from last season, that's a big plus.
Who are we gonna trade for D though? Al Murray? Not like we're gonna be needing him, I guess.

I think they could still get a 6/7 type. I doubt it's Schenn or anyone more valued like Jensen or Gavrikov, but maybe someone like TVR, Seeler, Stecher, Brown etc could be a possibility.

In JBB's defense, I actually don't know if the Preds would have accepted this deal 6 months ago.

Tampa is essentially risking that this is just a sophomore slump and he returns to his unicorn form from last season.

You guys have had some pretty good pro scouting when it comes to trade acquisitions so I guess there's some reason to be optimistic there.

e/ Although yeah I don't know how you address the defense now, unless it's going to be a forward off the roster?

You're only able to deliver hits when your team doesn't control the puck. Not my favorite stat to look at
But it's not just 300+ hits alone from 2022. He also led the league in fighting majors and scored 24 goals.

Having a physical presence was something we definitely enjoyed with Goodrow and Coleman

A #6 or #7 veteran dman shouldn't cost too much.

I would look at guys like

Nick Holden - Ottawa ($1.3M) / 35 years old / UFA
Troy Stecher - Arizona ($1.25M) / 29 years old / UFA
Justin Braun - Philly ($1M) / 36 years old / UFA

Yeah but... the cupboard is really bare. Like, we need somebody for crumbs. And this essentially takes us out of the market entirely next year.

I'm surprised a lot of your board don't like this. I posted this on the Avs board, but here's my perspective, and in my view it's amazing asset management.

Hagel - 2 1sts and an equivalent of 2x 3rd-5th for 3 playoffs of Hagel at 1.5 mil. He's still a RFA at the end. Assuming Hagel is a ~65-70 point player at the end of the contract, you guys should recuperate 70-80% of the cost and the picks will fit into their timeline of their rebuild assuming you trade him.

Similar with Jeannot, I actually think this down year made him more attractive to Tampa. Sign him either to a 2-3 year deal for under $3.5 mil, or sign him to a 4-5 year deal under $5 mil. Assuming he's at least a 50+ point player (should be, as he's the obvious Killorn replacement), Jeannot is a unicorn and you could probably recuperate again, at least 70-80% of the assets you gave up if you trade him near the end of his deal.

Wonder what Kane is traded for if we were willing to move this much,

Honestly, I think JBB will get him signed 3 to 5 years at under $3M.

As for the defense aspect, I think JTB is going be right and we might go out and get someone like Seeler.

We don't even need him in the top-6, if he's as annoying to play against as some suggest then roll him Cirelli and get another winger then we have a complete shutdown line and keeps Hagel and Killorn in scoring lines.

Maybe JB thinks the way to create cap space is to shoot our draft picks out a firehose. Jeannot could be exactly what we need on third line, but the picks we've been sending out three years is really setting us up for an extended down period.

I'd say we still need another upgrade on the fourth line, we should only be icing one of Perry, Maroon and Bellemare - they've not been near the level they were last year. I'd sit one of them for Namesy, as unspectacular as he has been.

This trade makes the Bolts heavy favourites again.

A lot of people here will be shocked when they see Jeannot play and see how well he fits

I like Jeannot a lot, he's not the difference that will make the Bolts heavy favorites especially having to get through Toronto and if they're successful Boston. The Toronto series is a coin flip and I'd favor Boston, but that's why the games are played. Jeannot makes the team better, but the cost was too high.

Love it, don't give a damn about the picks unless they end up contributing to a Stanley Cup victory over us, in however many years that would even take.

Smart move for Nashville given their situation, but Jeannot seems like a great fit beyond just this season.

I'm glad JBB doesn't share the same mentality as the pick-obsessed GM wannabes on HF. This man is doing everything he can to maintain a champion now, and trusts himself and his scouting dept/front office to remain competitive for years to come.

If I were you, I wouldn't even care about the picks all that much. It's highly likely that when it's all said and done, Jeannot is still the only NHL'er in the deal.

Dude hits like a truck, can beat anyone in the league to pieces and can contribute offensively while doing it. He's been really snakebit this year but he's getting his looks. Hopefully, they're going to go in sooner than later.

But if not, you can extend him at a lower price, so in a way it's a win-win for you guys.

Anyway, enjoy Jeannot and beat the the Leafs in the 1st round again! You've got a dynasty to build, after all.

Last thing you wanna hear when dealing away the farm is the guy you are getting can beat people up.

I know nothing about him really so not giving an opinion one way or another other than looking at the stat card

I honestly don’t think we need another D so much. Defensive woes come from our poor whole team coverage in our own zone. We need a better, faster defensive forward - aka Sam Lafferty.
