Congratulations to Tampa Bay! That is an awesome contract for a great player. You guys got a steal of a deal. Well done. Yzerman is doing a great job over there.

While Stamkos in Toronto would have been great for the next three years, I anticipate a steady but rapid decline thereafter. Regardless, I think the money would have been better spent on improving the D and allowing Matthews / Marner / Nylander a year to develop, along with the secondary youngsters like Brown / Soshnikov / Hyman, etc, to become acclimatized as well.

Toronto is in their first year of a dedicated rebuild. They have to stay the course.

But I'm laughing at all the haters that were incredibly afraid the Leafs would sign Stamkos. Breath a sigh of relief and take a lap; I'm sure your blood pressure is sky high after the lottery win. :)

He didn't come to Toronto. That's fine. Just don't go sign Matt Martin.

How is this going to impact all the other youngsters TB has to sign? Who will be shown the door?

Tampa fans were all over the forums talking about how Stamkos was and is the fourth or fifth best forward on the team. Who's going to make room for this fourth or fifth best forward?

It isn't fair, you're right. Unfortunately there's just been a "that's the way it is" attitude with taxes and how they effect the economics of sports. I mean, I'd love for this to be addressed in the the next CBA but I feel like for no reason other than "that's the way it is" stubborness nothing will be done.

Where would it end though. There are so many different taxes. Theyd have to even our federal tax differences, state tax, property tax, sales tax etc... hell Philly has a soda tax. So if if a UFA wants to sign with the Flyers do they have to estimate his soda intake for the next 8 years? Not to mention these taxes are subject to change every year. Once a player signs who knows what could happen over the life of the contract.

It's not even comparable to Toronto. That would be like comparing New York for a Yankee to San Francisco for a Giant. Both are good baseball markets but the media in San Fran is just a bit easier on players than it is in New York

Right in Toronto you go from loving Stammer to saying you will boo him every time he plays there Also in Toronto you are 5-7 years away from competing and here you can win the whole thing now...... I see how Toronto is better.....

Why is this thread about Toronto?

I think we all need to take a step back and let it go.

Congrats to Tampa. Nice deal. Never saw a reason for him to leave, honestly.

Jesus, Leafs would've had to pay 12.4 to match Tampas offer... Really glad they didn't.

OT: But teams in low taxed states have a huge advantage, basically have more cap room than teams who aren't. Not fair if you ask me.

Not even really close to fair, but I guess that's how it goes.

Not gunna lie, I now despise steven stamkos, looks like Tank Nation will be in full effect again.

Really disappointed in Lou/Shanny this off season, hate the term on Andersen's deal, other than the no brainer of drafting Matthews there isn't a single pick I'm excited about and it looks like they half a$$ed the Stamkos pitch.

This honeymoon period is in jeopardy.

Good choice, Stammer. Stay with the best team of the bunch, and try and win. I like it.
Plus, I enjoy watching how teams build around big pieces, and between Hedman and Stamkos contracts, with the triplets and other pieces, this will be a interesting team to follow. Only bummer is that he didn't wait for Friday.

No Income tax.

There is no STATE income tax. There is however, extra taxes built into just about everything you can imagine to make up for it. :(

Its not this big 'free ride' state some are making it out to be. In terms of revenue, Stamkos can claim half his salary in Florida because thats where half the games are played. The other half will depend on where the game is.

I wonder if Leafs fans are now looking at John Tavares and starting a count down clock for July 1, 2018.

Leafs fans will need to update this image..

This is what happens you expect a player is going to your team. Irrational butt hurt.
