I'm surprised that 8.5 got it done. Really showed that Stamkos wasn't talking out of his ass when he said that winning meant more to him than just cash and that he wanted to stay.

Now it's time for Steven to show us that he isn't on the decline and he can regain his 40 goal, 80+ points form. If he does that, it's a good deal. If he doesn't, well, at least it isn't as bad as it could've been.

Obviously there's still a risk, even with this hometown discount, I'm not going to his play of late is deserving of a big contract but hopefully now that it's out of the way he can rebound. His last 2 years were still stinkers, that hasn't changed.

Well his off season home is in Toronto and so is his agents office so yea he probably is.

Thank god the Stamkos saga is over. Now I will have to listen to my fellow Leaf fans move on to pinning all their hopes on Tavares. I almost feel bad for Islander fans. They will have to put up with it for at least a year before they re-sign him. Sorry guys lol.

....and we're going to have to put up with it for another six years re: McDavid.

This is great news. I was terrified that Buffalo would offer stupid money here.

They might have.

But have you been to Buffalo in February versus Clearwater Beach?

I can assure you there are no string bikinis being worn up north.:D:naughty:

Leafs were being as greasy as you could be. This just made Tampa all that much stronger. Makes sense for stammer why go to a team that is 5 to 7 years away from being legit vs a team right at the threshold of winning it.

And he can be a passenger instead of having to drive the bus.

Can't blame him really.

Stammer clearly cares about winning to leave money on the table. It's a loyal deal. I think Yzerman has shown that he is a very stubborn man and that can often work in his favour (Stamkos and Drouin). Good cap hit and good signing. I'm not sure he'll be a high flying star at age 33 but you really can't complain about the deal right now. Happy to see it! Congrats Tampa fans!

So Stamkos is a confirmed troll. Favorites the Toronto should sign Stamkos tweet. Doesn't sign and gets the hopes up of the Leafs fans and at the last second signs with his old team for a lowball offer.

One of Bishop or Vasilevsky had to go after this season anyhow. It was always going to be Bishop in my opinion. This just seals it.

Bishop on Dallas or St Louis might mean a cup; anywhere else would be a waster. However Yzerman might keep him for a run this year, then release him at season end and bring in some slug before the deadline for the expansion draft.

One thing for sure. Vasy is the future as is Gudleikas.

Lol at tb fans reclaiming stamkos as elite 1c now

Congrats stammer

Now he's not... is that what your trying to say:).

Leafs likely messed this up. This was a no brainer imo. You just had to offer to do the following (a) Trade for his rights so you could offer a 8yr deal and (b) offer $10-11 million a year plus the endorsements and you would have blown TB's offer out of the water. The Leafs wou would have had their leader and #1 C that can help turn the franchise slowly over to Matthews/Marner. If they offered a) and b) and still did not get him than they deserve props for giving it there all but if they didn't then the Leafs will have all this cap flexibility with no prime time players to help transition their young roster with. Plus in order to get such a prime time player they now likely will have to give up 2-3 valuable assets as opposed to one average asset that it likely would have taken to get stamkos's rights. Stamkos would have been overpaid at 10/11 million but he would have been the respected leader and face of the franchise that in itself would have been worth the money (even if he became a 30 goal scorer instead of a 50 goal scorer). Glad he stayed for TB's sake but I thought for sure he was coming to Toronto especially after the Leafs cleared up all that cap room. Can't wait until all the details of the Leafs offer get released

Toronto would have had to acquire the rights before the trade deadline, or they can only offer 7 years
