In the next 2 years 19 players will be ufa, or rfa at some point, so the potential to lose a lot of the dead/meddling weight and to change.I wouldn’t go that far. But a rebuilding team that isn’t bad enough to pick 1st and is up against the cap because of a bunch of useless players that have zero value doesn’t give me much confidence right now.
It's like Kent is trying to cut the head off the hydra and a new head always grows back. Next up, Pearson for Jack Johnson and a 3rd, then Johnson for Zack Kassian and a 4th, then finally Kassian for Hoffman and a 5th and the cycle can start all over again.Kent Hughes keeps getting a player from that Hoffman trade tree that we need to somehow get rid of.
It's as if we can't be done with the Hoffman trade. There's always a player that we need to remove from the lineup.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. He hasn’t been good since 2019-20Not every trade needs to be a blockbuster. Trade is fine in isolation. If he rebounds back to his form the year before last though this trade makes our team better when it's the last thing we need.
Agreed. Hughes got nothing on Bergevin's biceps. How do you even come close to this conclusion?
34 points in 68 games (his 2021-2022 season) would have been 4th highest on our team last year. Sounds like a difference making amount of points to me.I wouldn’t hold my breath. He hasn’t been good since 2019-20
Giving Allen extension and big raise to a 4 million caphit. Rainbacher looked so-so in camp, but it was one of best drafts ever. Pearson is piece of glass with 3.5m caphit. How do you even come close to this conclusion?
LOL......okHughes going more like Bergevin with every passing day.
I'm gathering that some think we "traded for" Pearson as if he's a guy we're actually targeting and not just a cap dump we ate to get a 3rd for DeSmith instead of a 5th.How do you even come close to this conclusion?

A lousy third? For 3.5m caphit? I'd rather have the extra 3.5m caproom. If you think this trade was about acquiring Pearson, you might be the one closer to Bergevin.
We got paid to acquire Pearson's cap hit. Any point he scores or assets he nets us is a bonus.
Or to make another Dach/Newhook move. Anyway it's hard to criticize a gm for stockpiling picks during a rebuild. I agree there's a limit to that though.

DeSmith had cap room too.A lousy third? For 3.5m caphit? I'd rather have the extra 3.5m
Do you see anything wrong? We got a 3rd from all this for almost no impact. The Kent lovers will never ever find anything wrong with his odd moves lol
DeSmith had cap room too.

It's only 1.4M we added.............DeSmith is now gone.A lousy third? For 3.5m caphit? I'd rather have the extra 3.5m caproom.
DeSmith would have been claimed at end of camp. He's NHL caliber backup.DeSmith had cap room too.
21-22 he had 34 points in 68 games not terrible, but definitely solid and could be worth a 3rd at the deadline if he repeats that type of play.I wouldn’t hold my breath. He hasn’t been good since 2019-20
When you rebuild, your real money is picks and prospect, not salary cap. We aren't signing any UFAs for a reason. Cap is meaningless.DeSmith would have been claimed at end of camp. He's NHL caliber backup.
Pearson 3.5m and Petry 2.3m for two more years. We could have got a real top asset
