Ottawa, Detroit & Zona all collect 2 points today is huge

If Demko wasn't due back anytime soon this club could potentially challenge for top 4 in the draft

Like many have pointed out before, a successful tank is often driven not by having not enough talent, but by having a bunch of demoralized and demotivated players who have contract security.

The lacking in talent type teams often have journeymen and young prospects playing their assess off for future contracts and roster spots.

We are falling into the former category, but with the added anchor of an historically bad stretch of goaltending.

It's pretty crazy that right now, it would be really tough to pass Detroit after being dealt 2 regulation losses in a row to them. The leverage of these bottom of the barrel matchups is insane.

We've got a lot to lose for and a schedule where we partially control our own destiny.

Pettersson/Hughes/Demko/Podkolzin/Kuzmenko+ top 7 pick + another top 16 pick + the pick still coming for Luke Schenn

Except for Bedard, most of these draft picks are like 2 to 3 years from playing. So I guess we are looking like a crap team until these guys are full time nhl, ers.

I'll try to keep this thread updated as often as I can because there isn't really much else to look forward to as a Canucks fan. Will track both our 1st and the Isles 1st rounder too

As of Feb 14 (Happy Valentine's):

Games yesterday of relevance:
Ottawa 4 - Calgary 3 (OT)
Arizona 4 - Nashville 2
Detroit 6 - Vancouver 1
LA 5 - Buffalo 2

Pretty much the perfect tank night for us - everyone behind us picks up points and us losing. I think we want the Isles to go on a bit of a run here to drop a few places so Buffalo winning was probably not ideal.

Games today of relevance with Bolded is who we should be cheering for
Chicago @ Montreal (3 pt game ideal)
New Jersey @ Columbus
Senators @ Islanders (3 pt game ideal)
Florida @ St. Louis
Pittsburgh @ San Jose

We've been pretty lucky with #tanknation lately so lets hope our luck continues!! 4th last is definitely looking like a possibility here with how things have shaped up lately. Guaranteeing one of Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov or Smith would be massive.

They should def keep Demko off the ice for the rest of the reason and rehabbing and working with Clarke
Rehabbing yes....I'm not so sure on the working with Clarke part.

Given the goaltending regression from Demko and Martin and how many of the issues seem to be common to both goaltenders right now it points to coaching. I suspect he will be replaced this off season.

He signed a 5 year deal

Ian Clark isn't going anywhere, this year a lot of players figured out how to beat NHL goaltenders. Unless you're playing suffocating defence, you're going to get burned as a goaltender. I expect the offence to regress next season as goaltenders take some time to adjust to this new explosion of scoring.
