The Sharks are unfortunately building the greatest, best and most beautiful tank in the league. Once Karlsson and Meier are gone, there is just no hope for our little, flawed tank. But I appreciate the effort, at least the season is getting interesting now.

Very much an open question if Karlsson can be moved at the TDL. That's a lot of salary changing hands and may need a 3rd team as a clearinghouse to make the numbers work but then that adds to the overall price.

The great irony of being a 'tank team' is that if you 'win' the draft lottery, then the season has been an unqualified 'success' no matter how many wins and losses.

It's one thing to 'tank' when you're trying like most of the current bottom-feeders.....But in the Canucks case, they're tanking after being in the lottery for eight of the last 10 seasons. There's no way they should be as bad as they are right now.

But Bruce, 'there it is'.

Still can’t believe we just lost back to back games to the Detroit red wings in regulation. God was with us. Probably the clutchest back to back losses out of our last 8 tank seasons.

Good chance we just locked up one of

Bedard
Michkov
Carlsson
Fantilli
Smith
Reinbacher
Benson

two weeks before the deadline, massive deals with large contracts usually happen in this time frame. If they don't get traded now, don't expect those type of trades to happen on deadline day. Canuck actually came out with a decent haul for a player on an expiring contract.

I expect Schenn to be gone for a draft pick. Myers/Boeser will likely be traded in the off-season.

And can be removed from his position. This team is going to have swallow a massive expenditure bill this summer for buyouts etc might as well throw another coaches salary on the pile.
I hope they don't buyout any contracts this offseason. They are nowhere close to contending so might have well let those bad contracts play out.

They have to do some buyout(s) because contending or not, rebuild or re-tool they need to get cap flexibility. I also agree with some comments in the game thread that at some point you have to say bad buyout or not enough is enough with the performance of some players. OEL comes to mind...it's a horrible buy out in many respects (far too long on the books etc), but the buyout is actually attractive for the first couple of years, then it becomes less palatable for a couple of years but that coincides with a time where the cap likely sees significant increases. After that it will be annoying to have the dead cap but it's not crippling.

Big games tonight.

Pittsburgh @ San Jose - need the Sharks to carry their momentum from a big win in Washington.

Chicago @ Montreal - Want Montreal to create some separation from us. Get the easy win from Chicago. We will never catch up to Chicago anyways.

A Chicago win puts them 7 points down on the Canucks- but Chicago has 2 games in hand (after tonight)
Imo Chicago is catchable.

I just took a look at chicagos schedule…. Its brutal. I could see them winning 5 or less of their remaining games

When it comes to crappy teams in the turtle derby, games in hand don’t mean much. Maybe they gain 1pt from those 2 games…maybe.

I think the best we can do is where we are right now.

Canucks have one of the easiest schedules left in the NHL. That said it's a big opportunity because losing them means the bad teams also start to pass us haha!
Arizona and San Jose also have similar schedules to the Canucks. Montreal is the team we have to worry about because they have the hardest schedule left.

Also not sure that Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus matter because we aren't getting passing them.

Canucks are 2 points out of 4th, and 6 points out of 3rd worst; all with the same games played.
Chicago and Columbus are a ways back, but there are still 29 games left for Columbus and 32 for Chicago.
I figure they end up as 3rd or 4th worst, but time will tell.
Really need to finish low, and not lose the lotto.

I think ownership is finally onboard with team tank. Aquilini knows his team is screwed without Bedard and there is absolutely no interest in his team anymore. I think they'll find a way to finish very last and get the best odds. And I think if they don't win the lottery they'll try and trade for the pick even if it means moving Pettersson or Hughes.

I bought some fava beans today, will look for a nice Chianti some time later to see if that will help me wash down the keyboard that I'll be eating.

Only question is, what kind of keyboard should I eat, if we get Bedard and Fredolini suddenly realized that he's a total f***ing idiot. Razer? Microsoft? Steelseries?

You can’t trade for the pick. Bedard’s rights are the most untouchable asset in the sport at the moment

So with Demko coming back. I would imagine he will be eased back in slowly. Ideally would like to see Demko alternate with Delia for the remainder of the season. That should keep the Canucks in the bottom 8.

7 points isn't catchable.

Let's assume we win 12 out of our remaining 29 games (less than our current pace)(70 points)

Chicago would have to go 16-15 in their remaining games. (71 points).

Do you foresee Chicago going ABOVE 500 with that team?

We are gonna finish in 4-7 range pre lottery.

In the background I can hear the Montreal goal horn, now 4-0 Habs.
Oh well..... Still a good thing, as Montreal will be 4 points up, same games played.

I agree fourth is probably the goal and best possible outcome at this point. It almost guarantees us a top 5 pick in great draft.
