I'm just a bit confused by the thread and find it impossible to drum up enthusiasm for the idea when it looks like we might be screwed even with Bedard, at least in the near future, but maybe I'm just not seeing the path forward. What exactly is the outcome that people here are cheering for?
Realistically this team is screwed for awhile unless they hit some absolute homeruns(note: plural) in trades or the draft.

We are much much much worse as of 3PM today than we were as of 9AM today.

Probably going to lose 60% of our draws, lose ~12-15 goals for rest of season, key bumper shooter on the PP.
Wait until you see Boeser in the bumper position.

Playoffs: unlocked.

(Boeser probably would do good too just to be a piss off)

Schenn for a second, dump Myers, Garland, Demko and Boeser, draft Bedard (Carlsson/Fantilli as consolation prizes), pick up a decent defensive prospect or a top-10 faller with NYI pick, extend Petey and hand him the captaincy over the summer. Spend next season letting the kids play and have Beauvillier glued to Bedard or Petey so you can flip him at the deadline if Bedard can't will them to the playoffs. Leaves them with a ton of money and hopefully a lot of assets for the 2024-25 season.

Easy :)

Bedard timeeee.

To be honest though, I’m sooo happy with Leo Carlson, Fantilli, or Benson as well.

Bottom 5 finish would be massive. Not only do you get somewhat decent Bedard odds, you get a good crack at picking top 3 and are guaranteed to pick top 8.
Exactly. Bedard is a pipe dream but we have a chance to draft future #1 center sun Carlsson, Fantilli and Benson.

Sharks and Yotes should be able to play better than the Canucks, I can see a top 4 pick in this draft. We need to start selling like crazy, before our next game would be great. The talk about bringing up Pods and Hogs is silly, let both of them and Raty play in the AHL, I don’t want them igniting a spark and we go on a winning streak. Move Garland and Boeser, apparently Myers has value? Great move him too! Schenn for a 2nd round? Amazing! Teams are interested in Demko? Great he should be for sale as well. Sell! sell! sell!

Even without Bedard if the Canucks can move a couple of more people out and add even a couple of 2nd round picks it would be huge to """"re-tool"""
Even if it's picks in 2024. If we end up somehow with Bedard, we have those picks in the bank during the 2024 season and if Bedard starts hot out of the gate then you can flip those picks for defensive help and make a run at the playoffs.

I think moving Demko and Garland are the most realistic moves to help the tank. I think Myers and Boeser are actually positive assets for the tank and it might be worth keeping them until the offseason.

D pairings I want to see the rest of the year.

OEL- Myers playing 30 min a night. Ensure they get lots of PK time.
Stillman -Burroughs playing 15min a night
Hughes- Bear playing the remaining minutes.

Martin gets 80% of the remaining starts.

For perhaps the first time in a decade, the Canucks are treating another lost season exactly like they should be treating it.

I just seemed that Benning just couldn't bring himself to weaken the team down the stretch, even if there was only a 'faint hope' for playoff hockey. Far too many UFA's like Hamhuis, Tanev, Markstrom and Tofili were allowed to walk with nothing coming back.

But dispatching Horvat; shutting down Mikheyev for the season; and holding out Demko out indefinitely; Allvin has informally run up the white flag on the season. With Horvat's departure they're definitely a worse team than they were last night.

And Allvin isn't done dealing. Schenn is the next UFA, and the Canucks will beating bushes trying to move one of Boeser or Garland--or maybe even both. With the addition of Beauvillier the Canucks now have far too many wingers earning north of $3m a season. But maybe those deals need to happen in the off-season.
