Tampa defeats Toronto 4 games to 3

Maple Leafs team did not show up to play in Game2 and Game 4.

In Game 6 with a one goal lead they turtled with only 4 shots on goal in the 3rd period.

The coach kept playing a PYLON Justin Holl to prove a pont to a nobody reporter.

Bottom Line:
Better team won. Leafs management has a LOSER attitude that flows through an entire organization. They are content with participation trophy.

As a Leafs fan I've seen this picture since that piece of trash Dubas took over the organization. He a child in a men's game and has absolutely ZERO clue what is winning hockey.

Person like dubas should be running the social media or culture part of the organization he should not be the top dog in the organization. Period!

There is such a thing as "a culture of winning". It's an intangible but essential ingredient to assembling a winning team. With all of the hockey advantages that Toronto supposedly has ( rabid & faithful fan base, owners willing to spend, budget available to hire the best management/coaching staff ) can anyone explain just how the Leafs have never managed to even stumble onto the formula ???

I'm not a Lightning fan but I don't see how the "pick" call was ridiculous. It's one thing to stand there and run a little interference but that was so blatant.

Holl comes from a long ways away and makes it so obvious that he's going out of his way to hit Cirelli. Cirelli looks to the ref immediately, even before the goal is scored.

The only real argument I guess is "it's game 7 in the playoffs they should've let that interference go." But it was obvious interference.

I haven't gone back through all the threads but I haven't seen a lot of talk about how how badly Brodie got walked on the series winning goal. That's poke and hope defense at its finest.
The pick call was a good call. Everybody but the homers know it and the homers are an embarrassment to themselves and the sport in general.

Even before that series began, did anybody think that the Leafs fans would not be over-the-top in complaining about calls?

The pick was as obvious as a delay over the board call. This wasn’t a matter of someone finishing a check a half a second late or holding a check for a half a second. It was a matter of a guy going out of his way to deliberately set a physical pick. A pick doesn’t even do it Justice. He basically checked a guy without the puck playing defense

All this Leafs a great team that lost to the 2-time Cup winners and were within an hair breadth of beating a great team is just a bunch of justification.

1) Anyone would tell you going into the playoffs Tampa was not the juggernaut of the past and certainly not playing well to end the season. Great team yes, but not playing anywhere near the level of dominance of prior years. Add to that Point being hurt and then knocked out early in G7.

2) Vasy (except G7) not the lights out goalie of the past.

3) Toronto up 3-2 in the Series.

4) Toronto up 3-2 in G6 only to blow it and not be able to close it out and win.

5) Toronto not able to close it out in G7 at home.

“Great teams” win a series now and then, no?

Instead, it seems like more of the same if you ask me. Toronto is like the kid trying to get his first job. Can’t find it because he has no experience, but can’t get a job to get some experience.

Hey Mom. I almost got a job again this year. Just lost out at the end to a better candidate. Guy who has got the best job the last two years in a row.

That’s nice honey. Dad and I do admire your perky spirit, I’ll say that.

I bet he's real upset with himself this morning
That's not even fair to Stamkos. Kuch, Point, and Hedman haven't done any better, 1point 0goals combined in gm7's. Saw that earlier somewhere not sure if it's accurate. Shows the importance of depth and goalie play in gm7's.

Here is what I can think of:

  • 1) Ballard era (no explanation required)
  • 2) Leafs were then bought by Teachers' Pension Plan
    • They wanted playoff revenue at all cost to bump up that financial asset
    • Rebuild was not an option
    • Former GMs-> JFJ and Bruke/Nonis were told to make the playoffs at all cost, no rebuild, they are free to throw away the draft picks
  • 3) Rogers/Bell then purchased the team
    • Shanahan was hired who pitched the scorched earth/rebuild the team idea
    • The new ownership said yes
    • The first 2-3 years after Matthews was drafted they abondoned their plan of proper rebuild and rushed
    • In the same time they let Lou walk, fired Babcock AND....
      • Provided the keys to the organization to a MORON like Kyle Dubas

After the rebuild there was an opportunity to build something special with decent cap allocation, decent cap and team structure that has all been flushed down the toilet by a moron named Kyle Dubas and Shanahan has green lit this trash.

Franchises who have knocked out the Leafs in the 1st round should make it a brotherhood hold yearly events commemorating.

Yeah. I'm a Habs fan. I'm very happy my team pitched in.
It’s nice idea and at first it was fun. But now it’s just so crowded — it’s a mosh pit just getting to the bar. Seems like anyone with a pulse can get in these days.

Not an elite gathering anymore.

And not just the hit, the line he took to it. There's literally no reason for him to be skating that line except to run a pick play.

What team are you a fan of?

The one that chokes every year. This is the same dude who said he was going to be celebrating when Florida bounced out in Round 1 after the leafs blew a 6-1 game to them last month. The tears of unfathomable sadness

All jokes aside In all seriousness, Leafs fans need a bit of patience. Don't blow up your core just yet. It took the Caps how long with the same core to get over the hump? Same for us? It is not an easy road.

But they have showed up many times when it's time to close the series in games 4-6.

The Leafs are very scary, idc what anyone says. They have the firepower to score with anyone. They remind me of 2018 Tampa minus Vasilevskiy. For a few years now I've suspected that Toronto was a goalie and coach away from being a true contender. That being said, Campbell was brilliant and deserves a raise. I reiterate that their real problem now is Keefe and bottom six leadership. Spezza was giving them exactly what they need but Toronto still needs more. They need a veteran that can convince them to believe in themselves. Tampa had the very same problem. Tampa tried with Chris Kunitz, but Maroon was the solution.

The big difference there is the capitals actually won some playoff series. The hump is not the same. The Caps couldn't get past the Penguins and that big hump before the Stanley Cup.

The leafs haven't even got within eyeshot of the Caps Hump.

That was a great series that could have gone either way. Vasi outplaying Campbell in game 7 was the difference, no big surprise there.

To the TB fans that have a bit of class, congrats and GL the rest of the way.

To the TB fans without an ounce of class, you'll keep being you anyway so whatever.

To fans of other teams that love crapping on Toronto, get a life. Or keep embarrassing yourselves by behaving like 10+ year olds in the schoolyard, your choice.

Why in the world would a Leafs fan think it wise to talk shit to a Habs fan in a thread discussing the Leafs losing in the 1st round?

Is this from the same mind who thought talking about how nice the Lightning were in the handshake line was a good idea?
Its actually hilarious leaf fans making fun of other canadian teams. Since the leafs' last playoff series win. All of these teams have made it to the cup finals.

Calgary Flames - 2004 Edmonton Oilers - 2006 Ottawa Senators - 2007 Vancouver Canucks - 2011 Montreal Canadians - 2021 ; Only the Jets haven't but they have only been around since 2011.

Oh, and before any leaf fans says "who cares about making it to the cup finals", I would ask them how many leafs cup finals they have seen in their life times.

Fan of a team that just set the worst regular season record in NHL history is chirping a team that lost to the back 2 back cup champs in the playoffs lmao
LMAO man this is weak stuff

Last year your fanbase's copium was that Montreal will take all the wrong lessons from winning, and now that we're off the Price/Weber contracts scot free traded 4 veterans midseason, cleaned house in the front office, replaced the coach, and have a #1 pick it's a bad thing

It's a hilarious thing when you're trying to chirp a team was top 5 all year and just lost to Tampa in 7, when your team is literally 32nd overall, worst finish of all time and still half a decade if not longer away from making a playoff appearance.

The difference is you guys went to multiple ECFs and a cup final. The Caps would routinely win round 1 and then lose to the Pens who'd go on to win the cup. We can't even get out of the first f***ing round

If I ran things I fire Keefe and bring in Trotz today, see what he thinks about running with this team or if he wants more depth to work his coaching style

I would agree except he didn’t hit cirelli. He completely stops.

Tampa runs into him. If Holl glided into him. Then that’s different. He completely stopped. I don’t see how that’s interference. Otherwise all you have to do is run into a stationary player and it’s inference
