What a terrible idea it would be to pay a player who had an unexpected leap in production to a long term deal for what could have been a fluke season. I'm not saying it WILL be, but it'd be much better to pay a little more with 2 years of production versus committing long term based off of one breakout season.

Let's see. Chad doesn't exactly have 100% accuracy.......and let's see what the AAV is.

If Tage and his agent came to them and said he was interested in a long term deal with a number the front office sees as a long term win you have to have the conversations. It’s not as black and white as all risk vs no risk after another year. Thomas and Norris are making around 8 per for 8. If you believe in the player and he comes to you talking something a good bit lower you listen.

Something like a 6x6 would be iffy on our parts. But if Tage is like "I'll take a 4x4"......take it and run.

It really depends on the term and AAV of the deal. If they get him signed in the Mangiapane and Kempe range for 4 or 5 years it's a risk that could be very good for the team long term. If they sign him to a Norris type of deal however that could be a problem if he regresses a little.

I’d take 6 million all day and never look back.

He pots 30 again that number starts with an 8

I don’t doubt he continues to fill the net with his shot, ice time and line mates.

I just looked at that Norris deal and vomited a bit. What a terrible deal.

8 Million a year in IOU's and a slight discount on seat leases at the new bills stadium.

What a great idea it would be to cement your culture by rewarding the people who exemplify it and excel in it. The players won’t forget how much Tage was underpaid last year and will be again this year. Management recognizing that matters in the room.

The dollars matter, but buying up an entire prime of 6’7” centre ice man capable of 40 goals at below going flat cap rates (Norris and Thomas) is smart business.

Smart hockey executives know who and when to bet on. Tage was good last year, not lucky.

At the risk of stating the obvious...

If Adams is right about Tage, and he puts up similar numbers or better over the next several years. Adams would have found a ton of surplus value from this contract. But if he's wrong, this can backfire tremendously. High risk, high reward.

Per Capfriendly, there's also a 5 team NTC from 2024 on. Which isn't the worst, but for that money would have loved them not to give a clause as well.

I think this is the risk Kevyn is putting on the line knowing he will have to shell out for Dahlin and also likely Power in the next couple years. If we bridge Tage and he repeats last season, the long term squeeze gets a lot tighter. If you believe he's a core piece, shave off where you can. Let's just hope Adams is right.

He's always had a wicked shot. He just couldn't get the puck off his stick early on. Biggest improvement is his calmness and release. Our little Tage has grown up so much

Agreed. I think moving to the middle of the ice opened up shooting opportunities for him. His toe curl wrister is tough to handle.
