It could easily happen. Coaches respond to slumps by shaking things up. There will be slumps.
A couple centers could emerge that are clearly #1 and #2. If the coach wants Tage in the top 6, he has to play wing. He'll be effective at either position. The move to center is being credited for Tage's success, but it really started last season when he was playing wing.

Shortly after taking over as interim coach, Granato placed Thompson in the lineup, only to scratch him for a bad penalty late in a loss to the New York Rangers. Thompson regained Granato’s trust and totaled seven goals with 12 points across the final 23 games, averaging 14:41 of ice time during that span. He also led the team in 5-on-5 high-danger scoring chances and shots per 60 minutes with Granato as coach.

He's also matched his career high in goals and needs 1 more point to match his career high in points, in 20 less games. Guys like Troy Terry and Mangiapane are getting all the attention for breaking out, but Tage seems to be doing so also with a worse supporting cast.
If he continues to grow: Taiju Thompson.

What in the actual.... Tage is on something like a 35 goal pace. Wow!
He just continues to grow and looks good. At this pace he'll be 30' tall by the end of the season.

That lineup will get run off the ice by any smart team. Not enough push back
Bring up the kids once they are ready to be on the top 6
This lineup would score a ton of goals and should have two really good PP units. Perhaps they sign some sort of "enforcer" type to play every now and again, ala Peters or better yet a Mair type.

On a serious note, what a fun project he is. Idk, feels like prospects who are mostly size don’t usually work out (Taylor Pratt’s greatest asset=dreamy eyes), but Tage has some real weapons to his game. Great hands, reach, and his shot is just a cannon. Will be fun to watch him develop further, he could be an absolute powerhouse in a few years. He’s stepped up big this year.

He also mentioned when Mitts is back that pushes Tage down to 2C and better on ice matches, Cozens as well at 3C for the same, and when Tuch is back that also adding to the picture. I wonder if they put Tuch with Cozens or Mitts now ? It sounded like the the Chemistry of TT, Olofsson and Aspy is staying together.

Gonna have a real hard time convincing anyone of this unless they completely nosedive this year.
Tage has more points and goals than ROR, we win the trade by default
You want them to play 10 mins on the 4th line? Injuries will happen. They could still get 50 games in next year. I'd rather them play 20 mins per night in the AHL and come up when they are going to see 15 mins plus PP time and skate with NHL players.

I thought if Tage and Johnson turned into all stars that the trade would only be bad instead of worst all time
I'd think that you could get them more than 10 min and some PP time. They'd be playing with talent.
With the state of the team and their performance so far it's hard to see them not here next year.
I'm guessing the plan is that at some point this year, Krebs, JJ, and Quinn will all be in the lineup. I have a hard time seeing any of the 3 starting the year in Rochester next year, unless someone really really struggles.

You run them as Lindy ran the Vanek line his rookie year. You give them heavy O-zone starts against 3d/4th liners so they can out skill them, and PP time. They'll get 10-12ES min per night and are in position to slot higher in lineup. Also Quinn and Krebs can also easily play PK
