In his Draft year I was hoping the Jets would take Laine at #2 OA and then Thompson with their second 1st rounder. It’s rare to find a player that size who can skate with NHL forwards, stick handle and rip one timers with precision. He plays a modern game and by his late 20’s he’ll start dominating physically.

From earlier itt about our #1C and leading goal scorer. (Names and dates redacted to protect the doubters.) So happy for this kid.

He’s a bitching AHL player
These 40 point predictions are for his AHL-career, right?
He could be, number wise, the next Luke Adam....
Was hoping he retired when I saw the bump.
Why do you have more belief in Tage than Nylander?
All ECHL...2nd team.
I see Benoit Pouliot. It looks like there's something there but it never delivers.

Not sure if you saw this from last night -

Complete with running through Romanov to the stare-down after he calls for the puck to bury it. He has begun to believe.

This dude is the ultimate example of being patient with development.

(hint: Dahlin, Jokiharju, Cozens, etc)

I'm so happy he turned out, and hope he stays at center forever.

Moreover on my own point...

...development requires some things from the player (determination, dedication), but it also requires a competent hockey coach.

Donny Meatballs having the foresight to make that center move is the best thing a Sabres coach has been in the Pegula era.

A year ago zero bingo cards had "Tage #1C, Jack is a Golden Knight", but here we are.

At what point will we dare to mumble the combination of the number 1 in front of the letter c when talking about this guy?

The ghosts of Luke Adam, Cody Hodgson, Mikhail Greg O'Renko and *shudder* even Ville Leino are still alive and well, haunting these boards, it seems.

But every goal, every assist by The Mighty Giraffe serves as a silver bullet, an exorcism to cleanse these parts from all those undead center spectres.

I still don't get why he did that, and even more so, why this is working.

I think that I heard this on the Instigators Overtime Podcast, but what I heard went something like this:
  • Granato always believed that Tage had an elite level shot, creativity, great hands, great vision of the ice and was an excellent skater for a player his size.
  • However, he watched that while a winger, defenders quickly found out that they could use the boards almost like another defender as the boards limited Tage's effectiveness by taking away one directional option as to where Tage could move or make a play - making him easy to defend against.
  • Granato deduced that if Tage had more ice, he would be less predictable and more difficult to defend- so he put him at center where he then would have the ability to move or pass in any direction - thus unleashing all of the aforementioned creativity, shot and skating, etc.
Seems to be working out.

I know that was tongue-in-cheek, but how awesome would it be if this trade ends up being fair value for us in the long run because Tage hits his potential?
If we dont win a cup with Tage or Johnson on the roster then we still lose the trade.

He’s playing great. His goal scoring is going to slow down because he’s on an unsustainably high luck streak when it comes to goals over expectations. His shot is legit and can account for some of that, but it won’t continue to double expectation for the whole season

What expectations are you referring to?
