I would LOVE to get Karlsson, he is my favorite non Shark, but I just dont see us having the assets to acquire him without severely hurting our top 6-9 forward group.

We clearly had interest in Patches at the draft, I dont see why that would have changed. I could see a trade for Patches built around Labanc, Gambrell, and a 2nd. Then look to trade Braun plus prospects/picks for a top 4 D replacement like Faulk. This lineup would be worlds better than last years roster, that had a decent playoff showing.

Hertl-Couture-Patches
Kane-Thornton-Pavs
Meier-Tierney-Donskoi
Sorenson-Suomela-Goodrow

Burns-Ryan
Vlasic-Faulk
Dillon-Heed

Is that roster a cup favorite? Nope. Is it a contender? I think so.

My biggest thing with Patches is handedness. Kane, Hertl, and Meier are all lefties that generally all play on the left side. Same thing for Pacioretty. Kane plays better with RH player at center and RW (why he played better with Eichel than ROR) and Thornton likes having righties on the wings by his own admission.

While I like the idea of adding another scorer I just don’t know how Patches fits from a chemistry standpoint. If Montréal will sell him cheap based on his prior year scoring I’ll take him but giving up younger and cheaper assets for another 30 year old winger that needs a big contract increase.

Totally agree. I actually like that lineup a lot - and there’s always the TDL to possibly make a splash with all the cap space. I think Patches can also potentially be Skinner, or if DW finally gets a tiny bit of luck this offseason - Panarin (which would make us a LOT better than last year).

I’m excited to see what Suomela can do too.

I love Panarin as a player, but he would cost a ton on assets and seems like he wants to play in a big market long term.

A package built for Faulk and Skinner together would be great if they would accept something built around Braun, Labanc, prospects, and picks.

Forgive my ignorance, but has the actual cap number this season been announced? I keep searching and finding articles where they expect it to be between 79.5 to 80 million. How can we be in free agency period without knowing for sure?

Panarin is the only non #1C or #1D that I feel might be able to propel us into contention next year.

He would be the perfect linemate for Hertl and Couture.

If we miss out on both JT and Tavares, nothing short of a $77M/7 year deal for future HOFer Dylan Demelo can save the Sharks!

Columbus fans said they want a wing in return so maybe something like Labanc+Tierney+Gambrell/Norris+2 2nds/2020 1st for Panarin

Surprising. They have tons of quality Wingers but lack Centers and LD's. Don't think they would be interested in 2nd rounders. They're not tanking so they want young high potential NHL close/ready players...so probably rather Gambrell than Norris. I'd do that deal if I'm Wilson.

Take out the Gambrell/Norris piece and the 2nd rounders and then I’d still only do it if he is assured to re-sign. Look at what he cost last year. They acquired him basically straight up for Saad. Labanc+Tierney+1st is very fair given they’re both 40+ point scorers that can be locked up for a long time while Panarin is walking after this season.

What he cost last year and what he costs this year are two different things for very justifiable reasons.

Panarin is an elite winger. Saad was considered to be close to an elite winger but didn't work out in Chicago this year. Panarin has played in 243 games and scored 233 points. He is also only 26 years old. If CLB is moving him, it's for an overpayment, especially if it's lesser pieces coming back.

You obviously don't know Stan Bowman. He's always gonna do those type of deals for cost certainty. I don't why Saad played this poorly last season so the deal obviously doesn't look good right now but at the time of the deal this was a typical Bowman deal and made sense for the Blackhawks.

Don't know about overpayment...that will probably depend on how many teams are interested. Since he's not gonna sign with Columbus they have to move him unless he changes his mind. That obviously has an impact on the prize. But I agree that without an elite player/talent going the other way Columbus is probably gonna get 1-2 young roster player, 1-2 nhl ready/close prospects plus 1st for Panarin.

Saad has always been a 50 point scorer and nothing more. He’s probably one of the most overrated player in the league. I’d add in one of the 2nd round picks or Norris, but getting rid of all but 3 picks in 2019 and a first in 2020 in addition to your first picks from the prior draft classes (Norris/Gambrell) for a guy that doesn’t make you a Cup contender is poor asset management. If you want to go put that together for an elite center, do it. But for a winger (idc how good he is) it’s not worth it to me.
