So here's an idea from the mains that seems to be of interest... Artem Anisimov for Alec Martinez.
They're the same age, similar cap hit (Marty $4m/year versus Artie's $3.3m) for MUCH longer (for another six years), he's pretty decent in the defensive zone, and he's a Midwestern kid (born in Michigan, raised at least part of his life there, played college hockey at Miami).
I think there's possibilities here.

It's not terrible, but it doesn't fill our biggest need and he has never played a full season (I don't think). I wonder if we can't get more for Anisimov (either by himself or in a package.
A) wow not a flat out NO!!!
B) I'm not a huge fan, just b/c he's more of the same, a 2/3/4D
C) that contract will not be pleasant in a few years IMO
D) agree with RD, lets add some things with Arty and get a 1/2D

I can't imagine his salary going below 5m/yr or his term being less than 2 yearsHow much to sign Paul Martin
I don't think it was presented as the be all, end all. To me, it's still an upgrade over Connauton and Prout. Anisimov is good, but I'm not he's as valuable as part of a package as you're leading on. I like Arty on this team, but not sure he's an immovable force on this club. He's basically a #3C that's decent on both special teams. He's oft injured, has a concussion history. If we're going big game hunting for a #1 d-man, we're going to have to significantly add to him to get one.
I think we've got a better chance than that. Byfuglien should be reasonably available.Let's play off season hockey jeopardy
A: Snowball's chance in hell
Q: What are the odds the Jackets obtain a top pairing D-man in trade this summer?
I think what RD/Fro/CBJWennberg are saying is that we want to find someone who can be a legitimate improvement on the right side to play alongside JJ, Murray, and Savard. I haven't seen much of Martinez, but I think it's a solid starting point. Martinez would be an improvement as our #4 defenseman, at least.
We have plenty of 5/6 defensemen (Connauton, Prout, Goloubef, and even Tyutin at this point). If we can get a legitimate improvement in the mold of a 2/3 right side defender (not necessarily right handed), I think we could be fine without Tyuts.
I understand their point. My point is we need more improvements on defense than just a #1. Martinez would be an improvement over our lower pair defensemen and could even be a top four.

IMO, because he's a better upgrade than that. Also, defensive focus is something several of our current guys lack, and that's an area of weakness that needs improvement. But why spend a valuable asset and a good amount of money for someone who just an upgrade over our 6/7/8 dmen? That doesn't seem like a smart use of either to me. We should upgrade those guys through our prospects or smaller trades.

nothing earth shattering, but a good read about duel offersheeting

Friedman says the Jackets are agressively looking to get one of the top three defensemen.

A couple of days ago, Portzline reported that Columbus wants to improve their back up goalie situation because their are a lot of decent goalies available. He mentioned Lack and Talbot(unlikely but probably phoned NY), any interest in Lehner? He stuggled last year and had injury issues but has the potential to be a solid goalie. Their GM said regarding a goalie trade "It’s not going to be a satisfactory deal... I’m not going to get what I think I should get.†Maybe we can get Lehner for cheap.
Never mind, looked at his salary. Way too much for a back up. Any interest in Markstrom? I'm a homer, I would love Markstrom but the way he played in the NHL lately, is he any better then Forsberg?
Also, if Bob gets hurt, Lack is capable of being a starter. Also, if we're in a playoff race and Bob is getting tired, we can use Lack to give Bob a rest and still be confident about getting a win.I like the idea of Lack. Knows what it's like to backup "the man"...and would be an upgrade on CMac.
