Being active is all you can ask for. My sense it's this is how he generally goes about his work. If 29 teams know roughly what we are looking for and what we are willing to move, things can only really get going if they call us interested in our pieces.

The best case is this week really pumps up the value of the picks.

Schenn, Emelin, Cowen, Coburn are all FAR from splash defensemen.

EJ, Girardi, Shattenkirk, Tanev, Carlson, OEL, Hjammer, Muzzin, and Enstrom seem pretty unlikely, although all would be fantastic gets.

Reading into Jarmo's comments in the Dispatch article, it looks like he's ready to make a splash regarding our defense. Everyone seems to be in agreement that we need a top end, right shot defenseman. I didn't really get into contract specifics like cap or no trade/move clauses, or if deals are even feasible, this is just simply a list of defensemen that would make a "splash" and change our defense. Just spitballin', if fact I'm not even sure I'd know what to offer for a lot of these guys, I just now they'd make the defense better. Fire away.

Dougie Hamilton
Brent Seabrook (my personal favorite)
Erik Johnson
Seth Jones
Ryan Ellis
Damon Severson
Dan Girardi
Luke Schenn
Brent Burns (another personal favorite)
Justin Braun
Kevin Shattenkirk
Christopher Tanev
John Carlson
Dustin Byfuglien

If you're not all caught up on which side a guy shoots, here's some left shooting "splash" defensemen.

Oliver Ekman Larsson
Niklas Hjarlmarsson
Trevor Daley
Dmitry Kulikov
Alec Martinez
Jake Muzzin
Alexei Emelin
Eric Gelinas
Keith Yandle
Jared Cowen
Braydon Coburn
Dion Phaneuf
Alexander Elder
Dan Hamhuis
Tobias Enstrom

Either list do anything for anyone?

Major RHD upgrades that could conceivably be dealt, with estimated price:

Burns
8th, Rychel

Ellis
Wennberg

Hamilton
8th, Rychel+

Buff
Atkinson, Rychel (more if Buff is signed first)

Severson
8th, Rychel+

Major RHD upgrades that could conceivably be dealt, with estimated price:

Burns
8th, Rychel - I don't really have an issue with this since we have 3 2nd rounders.

Ellis
Wennberg - This could come back to bite us. I'd rather keep Wenny and pass on Ellis.

Hamilton - Too much. He's good, but is he a franchise type d-man, that's my concern.
8th, Rychel+

Buff - I'd do that. If we somehow kept our first round pick and acquired him...BIG WIN
Atkinson, Rychel (more if Buff is signed first)

Severson - Big pass. Not interested in helping a division rival.
8th, Rychel+

My thoughts are in bold. Burns or Big Buff here would absolutely be the splash to transform the defense. Makes them big, physical and mobile. That's a recipe for long term success.

Burns and Buff strike me as surprisingly similar players.. do you really feel the difference between the two is the value gap between 8th and Atkinson?

Not sure about you, but I think Atkinson is getting paid his worth, so he's not as valuable as the 8th.

Burns costs more than Buff because of his sweet contract.

Spurgeon might also be a possibility.

It's not a value gap so much as a Winnipeg needs thing.

Enstrom and Burmistrov would be a nice package in return...

Don't ask me for what. That's not my job. I can merely drool at the thought of an Enstrom-Murray pairing, with Burmistrov anchoring the third line.

Maybe this is finally the offseason where we don't have "dream" anymore and Jarmo will make it so. Will Burmistrov come back over to NA?

If he ends up in Columbus, he'll have at least two of his countrymen on the team, and he's guaranteed to have at least one of his fans here.

saw this trade speculated here: http://thehockeywriters.com/potential-offseason-nhl-blockbuster-trades/

New York Rangers trade Keith Yandle to Columbus Blue Jackets for Kerby Rychel, Dillon Heatherington and 2015 2nd round pick.

So for discussion, would you do this? It's a lot for an upcoming UFA after next season and still doesn't take any existing forwards away from the roster so there would need to be some other moves somewhere else.

Aside from the author defining Brassard as a great player :shakehead

I think that's a bad use of assets. We already have a Yandle in JMFJ.
Personally, I'd rather find a rock (eg Heatherington hopefully in a few years) to play next to JJ and have Savard play with Murray to balance lines a bit.

It sounds like a jarmo trade. But I'd rather he didn't do it. Yandle is pure offense on the left side. . It would make a bigger mess back there, we'd need more deals to fix things up.

Absolutely not. Terrible use of assets. I know people will go crazy, but I'd rather have Heatherington than Yandle. We don't need a player like Yandle. We do need a player like Heatherington.

Never liked Yandle's game that much.

We are likely going to be "rumored" for any top 4 defensemen in the next week.

I'd wonder if the Devils get a defender with their pick if we could make a move for Adam Larsson.

I really liked to hear that Portzline found a GM that said that you'll be able to get a really good player for a second round pick. I'd rather be giving those up than our first.

However, if the deal is too good to pass up and really legitimizes this team as a playoff team with the potential to make a lot of noise, how can you not give up the first? Brent Burns and Brent Seabrook both fit that bill to me. Those are guys I'd consider trading our first to acquire. Seems like there's some doubts about Hamilton.

Sticking just with RHD, I've narrowed your list down to my fave targets. The list would be splashes of various sizes, and the better players would require a higher price than we'd probably prefer to pay.

I think Buff and Sharp will end up on CBJ's roster and will end up costing, in some form or another, Rychel, Atkinson, Anisimov, and 2 second round picks.
