The OHL board of governors would first allow Mississauga to re-locate and/or take expansion $ from Chatham before allowing the wolves to leave Sudbury.

take this article with a grain of salt.

Timmins would immediately overtake SSM for the most travel of any OHL team. I think if the OHL did that, they would choose a new market (Ohio? New York? Indiana?) Is Timmins even large enough population to support a team? The Rock are good but don't draw nearly enough to indicate the support would be there for an OHL team. And moving the Wolves to Timmins makes zero sense, the only thing that might make a bit of sense would be moving a different franchise there so both Sudbury and Timmins had one.
Timmins has a larger population base than Owen Sound

Clock's ticking, shouldn't take 5 years for a new arena to be built somewhere, this will likely be a contentious issue leading into elections...if the money can be easily spent on a new library I am sure they can find the money to build the arena

I think this was an astute move by Zulich to make the matter an election issue.
Could you imagine the reaction if Timmins got an arena & the Wolves? - never gonna happen.
Imagine the bus legs!

Timing has been unfortunate for the Wolves and the political naysayers of KED have won the first round (technically). Bottom line, build an arena 'somewhere'.

Could this all be a ploy for Dario to possibly buy the existing barn dirt cheap from the city down the road and then start from their. Look what the city did with the old general hospital and how they gave that away. Address the parking and construct a new arena on site

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. The team will not move out of town. He has already indicated that. Now if he finds that he cannot get a new arena in place soon then maybe he sells to someone to get his investment back. And then again it would be sold to some group in Sudbury. So all the stuff about moving to Timmins and Markham etc… is just ludicrous.

Now can we get back to real information on the team that is about to start the season. Any word on Hage reporting? Any word on our import situation? Any possible deals out there to clear some roster space? That’s what I’m interested in at the moment.

I see Hamilton and Ferguson still suck at refereeing.
Score board is cool.
Sound system still sucks.
Not impressed with anyone so far except for Ranger

I see were still severely undisciplined and the scoreclock sucks if youre sitting centre ice.

Also noticed Villeneuve clutching his shoulder early in the game. Didnt see him at all after that.

being live at game first time, Toure really stood out for me, He can skate, tough and smart. I think this guy will sign with NHL affiliate after this season. McCallum and Larmand vets with no real leadership constantly agitating and getting penalties. I know its preseason but no real discipline in this game, really hurt the flow of this game. It's pre season and players missing but I didn't lie what I saw tonight. Let's see if they bounce back Friday.

DeGrazia with a slew foot!!! Didn't he do that last year as well? Why in the heck would he do that knowing home opener is in a week. He will be gone for at least 3 to 5 games. And then Anania and McCallum just so undisciplined. I can't fathom watching a full season with this kind of veteran leadership. Just horrible... Musty and Mania also take lazy stick infractions when they get beat. I don't get it but the coaching better right this ship of this kind of play. I don't care if its a pre season game but just simply unacceptable.

Now for the good... Yes Assadourian will be a treat to watch if he has some good line mates to play with this season. I also like K.Walton. The kid can dangle for a big lad and made some very nice feeds. Toure will get more comfortable with the speed and pace of the game and once we have Collins and Holmes back I think he will be a pretty solid guy in the third pairing. Villeneuve lasted maybe a shift before getting hit behind the net by Punnett and can be seen favouring his shoulder. Not the start I'm sure he was hoping for. But once healthy he too will be a treat to watch. And I do give honourable mention to Derbidge, Pharand and Larmand. Derbidge changed the momentum with his fight. I like his game a lot. Pharand will give you an honest effort and so will Larmand. However I really do believe this team is still short a solid vet up front. I think a deal needs to be made to get some bodies out and to bring in a solid guy. One who can lead this group and teach these guys to remain disciplined.

Bishop needs another year of development in Junior A. He is getting better but still needs to be stronger and quicker. I do like his shot its very solid.

C.Walton I'm assuming was called up because Collins, Holmes and Robinson weren't in the line up but he to needs a lot of work.

Hollingsworth I cannot see sticking. I don't think he brings much and its only a matter of time until he is released.

Mauro works hard and will be in and out of the line up from what I can see. Very small player, he will need to find his game and how he can be effective being in the bottom lines.

Out of the line up tonight:

SUDBURY

Goyette
Delic
Konyen
Boudreau
Robinson
Holmes
Collins

BARRIE

Cardwell
Haight
McDonnell
Del Monte
Vierling
Jelsma
Tiller
Clarke
Cholach
Thornton

Barrie will win the East this year based on the depth of this roster. Yikes they will be crazy good.

When will Paps build a team like Barrie?

When will Paps build a team like Barrie?
When he stops gambling on the Import draft and taking flyers on kids who don't report i.e. Savage, Larkin, Gillespie, Hage? etc... And not make trades for players who are no better than the one you ship out and lose a draft pick in the process...(Ribeau)

To be honest, I think Papineau is too smart to build a team like Barrie, or NB for that matter. He might be the only GM ever to have not selected 2-3 D inside of round 3 over four OHL drafts. He came close once, selecting Mania with the first pick of round 4 in the year Niagara forfeited their 1st pick.
But the wolves do look like a possible contender for the 2024-25 season to me. Really, how can you miss with 2-3 consecutive lottery picks and massive returns from the Stillman and Thompson sell?
To be as loaded as Barrie though, it will probably take another sell this season or next, get lucky with import(s), and select D prior to round 4-5 in the OHL draft.

Goaltending could be a big question mark this season. Think they must fill the import situation quickly as Paps blew it again.

Looked up DeGrazia stats from last year only 2 penalty minutes all season! This is still bad timing on his part. Hopefully the team got out all their unnecessary penalties tonight and stay focused on scoring goals and winning games.

Reactions: Pucks Deep
Pre-season so far is just continuous lack of discapline. McCallum takes a dumb penalty, gets out of the box, throw him straight back onto the ice on the PK.

McCallum can do no wrong, they kept throwing him out on the powerplay despite the fact he'd lose the puck every time he touches it.

As far as I've seen so far, I really feel like McCallum and Hoover have played their way off the team and have been surpassed by almost all players, including the new rookies.

Bishop is simply not an OHL player, Peyton Robinson 2.0, plays hockey like a wet pool noodle. I'd really hope they keep Connor Walton around instead of him.

On the bright side, I thought Mauro and Di Giantomaso showed quite well in their limited ice time. Toure made a few mistake with the puck, but it's definitely nice to have a big d-man who can skate well, and has a little nasty in his game.

Besides the penalties they played a decent game

It's frustrating because I don't think there is a penalty called with less consistency then slew footing. A Barrie player did similar in the corner to one of the wolves forwards earlier in the game. It was damn near a judo throw lol.

I was at the game last night and thought really it wasn't a bad effort with exception to the penalties.

For me the best player on the ice without looking back at final stats was Mania. That kid looks way better this year. He can flat out fly and while I noticed he was on for a couple goals against he seemed to play well in his own end. He was paired up with Hoover which in my opinion is not an easy task,

I also like watching Musty. He made some beauty plays in the offensive zone but even more impressive was the way he got back. His back check was notably absent from his game last season but I felt he showed a good effort last night getting back and breaking up some plays.

Toure - Is a nice find...love the clean physicality he brings and moves pretty damn good for a big fella.

Still not as sold as many I talk to on Joe Ranger. I find he was slow to cover up loose pucks and not sure he showed the quickness needed to make up for his lack of size (web site has him listed as 6'0...Find that hard to believe)...I'm still holding out hope though.

Assadourian looked awesome...not a big guy but man he goes hard and fast to the puck.

Sad to see Villeneuve forced from the game so soon... i want to see more.

The #22 Walton seemed like the type of player that makes the people around him better as well...Some really nice headsup playmaking stuff from him.

McCallum just spins his wheels and his stick around not really accomplishing anything...but always seems to be on the ice except while he's in the Box. Not a fan....I feel there is a place for gritty players on a team and they are actually necessary...but he just seems more erratic than gritty.

Hollingsworth i feel might be good but not yet...I feel like he may watch from the stands on more nights than not

Automatic Cuts for me are : Hoover, Bishop

I find it interesting everyone who watched the game yesterday have very different views of the game, I think common dominator McCallum needs to go in my opinion he's not a top 6 forward on this team.
I think we have to face the fact that it hasn't worked out for McCallum here. He just doesn't fit in and continues to be a thorn in the team's side. Gotta go! Coach seems to love him though......
