One on the Wolves had a IG story up that was deleted rather quickly. Maybe shouldn't read TOO much into it but also a little weird....

I guess I just assumed you couldn't trade injured players
Idk. It was reported to be a significant injury, so the wolves must be aware. But it’s just trading for the rights of a player that doesn’t seem interested in the OHL, right now at least.

With the success we have had lately with imports Hage, although he is not an import is probably one or two season away from a wolves jersey. Seems like just another long shot for the future.

Why does this seem so cheap for a first rounder!

WJ
Because he may never report. Kitchener had to trade him within the current window to receive the first round compensation pick, had they waited till next window(trade deadline) they'd only get a 2nd round pick.

At the cost of a 4th round pick if he does not report, I think it's a fine trade. If the wolves took a risk and drafted him in the 4th, I'd have been very happy.

Pretty sick draft if Hage reports,

Villeneuve
Hage
Walton

All three were rated in the top 10 in various blogs and draft lists.

Our 16, 17 and 18 year old players loaded with talent.

If the Wolves decide to sell at the deadline and get a number of picks back to be used next year they could potentially be setting this up for quite the ride for two years. And if we have any kind of luck and get the two imports to report then the Wolves will be one extremely deep team with some tough decisions to make because they wouldn't have enough ice time for all this talent. Will be very interesting to see how this navigates itself in the year.

Why would Hage leave the steel to come to Sudbury even if the coach has moved on that may have been part of the reason he went their. Once he is cleared to play with the steel you would think he would return to action with his present team. The wolves are hoping down the road if he ever decides to go the OHL route they could be part of the lottery or they would trade his rights to the team he prefers to go to. This was simply a move for Kitchener to get a compensation pick for him before the window closed. A good move by the wolves for the future in a year or two, but don’t count on seeing a player of this calabre here anytime soon.

Hage was in the Rangers Rookie Camp. He was far and away the best player on the ice. Something happened every time he touched the puck. If Sudbury could somehow talk him into coming to their franchise it would be a massive win for their fans. I think at this moment in time he and his family are committed to Chicago. McKenzie would never give up his rights if he thought for a moment there was a chance he shows up in KW even next season.

I would agree Billoink. I don't expect to see him, likely wants to play with Fantilli and the attention he will bring. We'll see how the squad does down there having lost their coach. Time will tell.

Interesting that he went to rookie camp, as he signed with Steel back in April.

Perhaps McKenzie opted for the sure thing, and has a 4th and another 1st - pretty good compensation - and only better if Hage does ever report to Sudbury.

I found that interesting also. Figured there was a good chance he appeared at the main camp. Not so. Kind of a let down when you watched the level of skill he projected.

Fantilli is with UofM, not Chicago.

From Sudbury Star:

Optimistic as he is about the Wolves’ chances this coming season, Zulich also kept a positive tone when discussing the future of the franchise Friday night.

“This building was built before Queen Elizabeth became queen, if you can imagine it, when her dad, King George VI, was reigning, so this is an old facility and I just wanted to give Sudbury something new, especially as we finish the last few years of our lease,” Zulich said. “I want Sudbury to come out and enjoy the barn, relish and remember it, because we’re not going to be here forever, I can tell you that. Soon, we’ll be playing in a brand-new arena somewhere.”

not sure what Zulich has up his sleeve, I will believe it when I see it. It will have to be a private funding, if it has the city involved it will never happen.

Is Timmins calling. Should Timmins make 'The Mac' bigger? (3 photos)

Would be a huge loss for Sudbury if the Wolves left town...could never see a new arena being built solely with private investors...city council needs to step up as they have a poor track record thus far

yes, I would have to think Zulich may get private investors to help offset cost, but I agree the city will have to be involved. Zulich wants to see a new arena not a renovation, will see how this plays out. I'm not to optimistic. Wouldn't surprise me if Zulich moves team, even though he said he wouldn't. I would love to know what his plans are.
