Totally disagree: Byfield, Phillips,Murray, Stillman, Goyette, Collins, UPL Weeks are a few that comes to mind who have been NHL Drafted. Add Weeks and his Pro contract, the Pharand Trade, Chromiack coming over, Delic and 06 Draft prospects and I think your focus needs to be re-directed elsewhere…

Thompson was a 2 or third rounder that was discovered by Wolves Scouts.
One or two drafts doesn’t cut it. In order to have a contender you need to have multiple wins in drafts and find imports that will come over when you have the depth. Can’t always trade your way to get in contention and then trade again to get over the top at the dead line. Papineau is nearing the end of his rope imo.

Stillman was a no brainer as his father was the coach. Collins is decent. Weeks turned out pretty good under18 draft pickup. Well see about Chromiack. Pharhand is decent. I like Delic.

My focus is exactly where it should be which is this current roster. IMO its not a good one.

I do agree when performance drops below expectations people need to be held accountable, but the OHL is a quick cycle league and some teams more than others were affected by the pandemic. At the deadline before COVID hit Barrie sold everything, setting the stage a couple of years later to be a deep excellent team with a ton of picks. Picking Goyette at 11 was a steal. Collins was a 5th rounder I think…can RP and scouting staff do better? Yes of course, this can be echoed through the league. Patience…I for one see the potential and skill. It’s up to the players and those who teach and guide them to find the high performance consistency we saw glimpses of against Barrie, Petes and two periods against Ottawa…

Goyette was not a steal. He and his father made it known he wanted to be in a french community. He and along with Stillman was a gift.

The pandemic cannot be used as an excuse. Teams have had consecutive winning seasons. I don’t buy the cycle league. Yes to a certain extent but Barrie has had one bad season and have multiple playoff runs. North bay has done it several times and way more than Sudbury. At what point does the fan base stop buying this baloney. Rob Papineau has been here 5 years now. Hiring coach Dunc is a horrible decision! His lack of ability to make small moves prior to a season to swap out players he maybe made a mistake on in the draft is something he doesn’t do. A big reason for his failure as a GM to this point. If his 19-20 year old group was better minis Ranger and Toure this team would be tougher to beat and maybe would have early season success like Ottawa is having. I have run out of Papineau’s patience.

On another note why is he holding off trading Derbidge??? I don’t care what transpired between his camp and the Wolves but the longer he sits at home it can’t be good for a relationship with his agency representing other players that the Wolves may want to acquire or draft. He’s 17 showed much improvement in preseason and should have been rewarded with icetime over some of the 19 years we have here. It’s things like this that has me question Paps theory that he wants develop these young men on and off ice into men of character. Maybe he should show some character himself and deal the kid or bring him back and give him the ice he deserves to develop especially if this teams window is next year or the year after as many allude to in this forum.

Agreed and Byfield was a no brainer. A kid out of Spad could of made that pick! Musty I’m beginning to think is a mistake. Some beauties are skating with Oshawa, Owen Sound and Guelph who we maybe should looked at with more intensity. Who and why they recommended Musty has me scratching my head. Then don’t get me started on McCallum.

Ritchie would have made sense as the 1st OA selection

Who is currently sitting at home for you guys?
Michael Derbidge! 17 years left wing! Drafted in the 4th round in 2021. Good size, physical, some soft touch around the net. Drops the mitts. Much upside! Wolves didn’t reward him with the ice he deserved after having a great pre season and was one the top goal scorers.

Interesting. Do you think he’ll get traded soon?

Yea I'll be curious to see what type of player his brother turns out to be with the Pete's. What I saw of him in Peterborough ( pres season) reminds me of the same player. Similar in stature as well.

Musty might just be a mistake but he and Mania are connected in many ways. Politics. Should be interesting to see how he handles those two if need be.

he was originally going to the soo, dad pulled shoot and wouldnt report to anywhere other then sudbury, i think ottawa maybe as well. you are 100 percent correct.

everyone for years said ritchie and barlow were the top 2 05s, i dont get why they over thought it with musty.

I believe when comes to drafting, I think having a high hockey IQ should be on the top of the list of attributes. I find this team has skills, speed, etc the thinking of the game could be better.

Coaching is in question, I constantly see 1 player trying to go through 5 guys to get into the offensive zone, Last game Ottawa, always reloads and forechecks with 5 players. There is not much forechecking going on forcing the opposition to make mistakes.

My concern is when you see promising rookies last year not making much of an improvement the following year, some players haven't taking a leap to me, this has to do with coaching. What are they working on in practices, are they benefiting reviewing video, etc to make them better players. It seems to me other teams their youth seem to develop each year that is the key to having a successful team.

I respect your view point and it is becoming obvious I’m not privy to your inner circle of information! We’ve played less than 10 games, of which key members have been suspended. I still hold high hopes and will keep the faith! I hope the entire team gets better…soon! I see the upside and will continue to believe as the optimistic (maybe delusional) fan….Go Wolves Go!!

not really sure what this has to do with my post but nothing wrong with that :)

Several teams were hit harder than the wolves when the league shutdown. Miss was a top contender, Oshawa was likely to host the memorial cup. The Petes missed their contending year playoffs then were unable to sell some big time players.
The wolves benefitted by winning the draft lottery

can't say that I've ever heard of him, anyone know anything about him?

Wa wa waaaaa. Like more of the same! What’s wrong with the current staff? Never knew the Wolves were short staffed . What happened to the guy from the Soo never heard a word about him since he was hired. In fact I don’t think he’s been to the arena at all.

I like Jeff; good guy, takes his responsibilities seriously. That he is scouting for the wolves concerns me though. I know OHL scouts are essentially dedicated volunteers, but I still wish the best available would be doing the job

What team will show up tonight? This weekend could really sink the Wolves early on. Or bring them back to 500. Split would be good this road trip. Does Dunc get 20 games at least?

It’s a very good question. I see this team being inconsistent all year with this current roster. Without a coach who can implement systems and consistent line combination really baffles me. Another big concern is someone who can control the PP like a Capibanco or McFadden or Thompson or a Dodero. I don’t see anyone who can move the puck with pace back there. Robinson is the one they are hoping for but I’m sorry he’s a huge liability because he doesn’t move the puck quick enough. Others are just not built to run the PP. Mania and Chromiak maybe in time. The power play will continue to suffer as a result and if that doesn’t work you don’t win many games imo.
