Villeneuve and Walton were playing great but they got tossed out of the lineup the second half of the game, ridiculous. While McCallum was not bad, the amount of plays that died on his stick were hilarious. He got lucky not to get a few diving calls as well.

Wolves have figured out two first lines that work, Delic - Goyette - Konyen and Musty - Goyette - Delic. There's no need to break them up, use one of them.

Robinson continues to be the worst d-man on the team and it's not even close.

In good news, I though Collins and Toure looked outstanding, but they're the only two defenders I trust in the defensive zone at this point.

I also overheard Zulich bragging again how he'd move the team to King's City if he did not get his new arena. Between his Ego and Duncanson behind the bench it's really hard to continue supporting this team.
No kidding, Zulich is a loud mouthed arsehole for me now.

After some reflection regarding this post, the above statement is the only one I don’t believe needs editing.

Have some self respect and more importantly respect for your fans. We’re not members of city council.
Stop walking around like a drunken Gino man with your shit unbuttoned and keep your mouth shut about your bullshit threats to move the team, especially during the games and within earshot of the fans that have supported the franchise through a whole lot more thin than thick. I used to talk to him regularly but he’s done with me, hopefully I won’t have anything I feel necessary to say about him and stick to the game.

The D has been talked about plenty so far. Yes Robinson is not the ideal OA dman you want and Mania has plenty to improve on, but to me wolves have bigger issues

Very little to nothing from these players

Alex A
Landon M
Nick D
Alex P
Marc B
Ethan L
Evan K

These 7 players you're relying on for production. They give you very very little. You won't win many games if they don't contribute.

Musty ( good shot, skating is poor)
Delic( you know what you're getting every night)
Goyette ( the only pure goal scored on the team )

Rookies are a non factor at this point but I like what a see from Walton

Papineau needs to trade for more scoring

You can't win alot of games with one line. Tonight, like most nights, the rode with Goyette Delic Musty. They tried mixing the others on the PP but they give you nothing. Absolutely nothing. Pharhand cant even play the PP cause he like the rest have no creativity in their game so he was stapled to the bench. He needs to improve his skating as well. I would of given Walton some time on the PP over some of the others.

Now Dunc may not be the best option behind the bench but to me Rob Papineau is most responsible for his construction of this roster. He need to be held accountable for his decisions on drafted players(and by trade) who have had very little impact on this team.

If Dunc gets fired Papineau should follow

I won't hold my breath

I understand we use this space to communicate (mostly complain) about how the team is playing, but come on, that was one of the most entertaining games of Wolves Hockey I’ve seen since Ottawa beat us out of the playoffs in triple OT pre-pandemic!
First two periods, were fast end to end action with great goaltending and for the most part four lines were rolling. Also, until the end of 2nd period, no penalties.
IMO, we need to circle Oct.14th on our calendars, because that game will be the jumping off point for the remainder of the season. They played as a team/for each other! Yes way too many penalties in the third but we all witnessed a team battle, dig in and support each other. Those kills were inspiring!! Joe Ranger is an absolute BEAUTY!!! Goyette/Pharand/Walton/AA and even Delic were stapled to the bench because we spent almost the entire first half of the third 2 players short! We didn’t play at even strength until 7 mins left in game!
Yes, PP needs some work and yes the bench was shortened but that was a gutsy effort! Barrie are a very good older team! Verling who scored the 1st goal was drafted 2nd overall into the OHL behind Byfield so as a 20 year old he is good!!
We have scoring and an abundance of young talent! Lastly, I do agree Musty and Robinson were way over played in last 5 min of game and in OT. Several times Barrie took advantage of a tired Musty trying to play defence and this is how the game was won. Head scratcher to see Collins/Delic not being utilized enough at the end!
From what I saw from Villienve and Chromiack I was super impressed! Both are studs. I already love Walton. Toure was the modern day version of Chris Pronger, big..smart…quick and MEAN in his own end. Loved him on the PK. Collins is special and due to injury hasn’t played much but we are so lucky to have him on our back end.
Some tweaking is needed, but Oct.14th was an amazing game!!

I do agree that this was an exciting game end to end action. Was pleased to come out with a point vs a potent Barrie team.

I will give Dunc a mulligan in this one because he had no choice with all the penalty kills to play certain guys more than others. Yes Goyette, Musty, Robinson saw too much ice on the PP near the end and it was painful to see them try to move the puck around. A PP you need to move the puck quicker to open up shooting lanes.

I really do believe Paps needs to make a package deal for another vet forward. How and who moves out is beyond me because Dunc plays the guys a ton who I think should be moved.

Let’s hope once Collins and Chromiak get settled and more comfortable that they can effective on the PP for at least part of it.

Leyton Moore would be a nice add to backend but I know it’s wishful thinking.

Joe Ranger stole that point. I like Dunc and really want to see him succeed but can anyone who watched that game honestly say we look well coached? My lord man, powerplay in slow motion all night , nobody wants to shoot, forcing plays trying to pass through players, they had one play trying to set up Goyette all night….over and over, so predictable.
To me Holmes and Robinson are not equipped to run the powerplay…Collins didn’t seem to be out there much and what happened to Chromiak? Seen him early then he seemed to disappear? What about Villeneuve? Help explain someone, did I miss something?
I don’t know man, Mcallum on the first line, Musty trying to do everything himself…Ranger the one amazing bright spot and again for me the only reason they were able to get a point. Doesn’t get any easier Sunday.
I'm pulling for Dunc as well. No coach is perfect. They need more fire power.

No coach is perfect, but in all my years of watching hockey, not many times I've had to watch a team kill off a 6-minute major because the coach was too dumb to notice he had no one in the box.

We've had two killer first lines that scored seemingly at will, and he's gone and broken them both up to feed McCallum prime ice time. He continues to play Robinson(Who, in his words, is a premier d-man in the OHL) over much better players like Collins, and Toure, heck even Chromiak, in his first game, made fewer mistakes than Robinson does in any given 5 minutes period.

I'm the first one to criticize Papineau, but the problem on this team is not the personnel; it's the deployment, and has been for a long time now.

What I'll also give Papineau full credit for is picking up Joe Ranger. I thought it would be tough to replace Weeks, but Ranger has been incredible, and based on what I can see on the ice is quite the leader for the team as well.

As this team navigates through the early days of this season, I’m sure one has to wonder which of the 6 19 year olds currently on this Team will be around for next season?? Moves will have to be made, we have depth but patience will pay off. Management has made some bold moves (Hague trade and some high end Ero) that by Christmas we can be well set up for the second half of the season and a bigger run next year!!

I agree, Wolves dressed 7 D yesterday, you would have to think one of the 7 who played yesterday will be moved, making Bishop the 7 D. I think at this point Robinson and Anania are expendable imo.

I don't think they go 7 D all year long, Degrazia will return, then you would have to think Derbidge will be moved at some point. I was a fan of Derbidge I thought he had a great training camp and deserved to be in lineup. Not sure what his situation is, but it could be regarding his ice time.

However, it is clogged up, guys like Villeneuve, Walton deserve more ice time for their development. For me McCallum is easy vet to move. Even, Larmand imo expendable to make room for the youth, they need to play.

I know some say we need to more scoring I agree, however, need to play full line up and roll the lines and develop these kids, can't spot duty them all game, give these guys a regular shift and lets see what they can do. All four lines are strong, so coaching staff shouldn't fear playing them all regularly.

Yes develop these young players by having a proven goal scorer to help them along. Teams know we have only Goyette as the real threat. Evident during the extended PP we had. Barrie knew it was Goyette they were trying to set up over and over. It was really quite easy to defend. They need to make a multi player deal. Kitchener or Kingston maybe as targets to deal with. They need to add a vet up front and a quarterback on the backend.

So we have Derbidge, Robinson and one of McCallum or Larmand along with maybe Assadourian that they should centre a trade around.

Move out 4 bodies and bring in 2 or 3. You need to have two lines that are threats to score. Until they figure that out they will continue to lose these close games. I like the effort but some creative thinking by Paps can really make this team exciting this year and next.

The youth coming back next year is there even if we deal Assadourian and Derbidge. Then you add in your overage candidates, a first and second round pick from 2023 draft, possibly Hage, Dvorsky and whatever you bring back in a trade for the above mentioned.

Goyette
Delic
Konyen
Musty
Pharand
Villenueve
Walton
Muaro
DiGiantamasso
Hage?
Dvorsky?

Bishop
C. Walton
Bruce
Protz
Collins
Mania
Chromiak

Overage canidates

Holmes
Anania
Toure
Boudreau
McCallum
Larmand

So making some smart moves can really set them up well this year and next by dealing some youth along with some vets as mentioned.

Coaching is a major concern at this point...or is it???

I don't understand the line combos and juggling. Is it the coach or Paps calling shots on who needs to be on the ice more. Konyen saw way more ice than the previous games and was on the first line to start. Then Delic saw limited PP time along with Pharand who in close can score. He has a very accurate shot. The bench management is also concerning. Mistakes being made to have players tracking. They are missing their guys. Cost them in OT but in earlier periods it was the same the Barrie late guy following the play was not being tracked and thank god for Ranger making massive saves on point blank shots. McCallum taking key face-offs and extended PP time and struggles in traffic with the puck. He is a 3rd line checking role end of story along with Larmand. The experiment is over in my mind. Musty staying on the ice way too long. Had a chance to get off on there occasions and stayed on and it cost them.

You can't put players interest ahead of the team. Not sure if its parents and agents complaining but something seems a miss. If it is then there is too much control from agents and parents. This would never would have happened decades ago.

But in mind to correct the issue they need to make some moves. Too much youth on the roster the require ice time. It creates a problem. They need more balance. Paps on the clock before it gets out of hand IMO.

Ya man, I really do like Dunc, watched him kick ass (he was tough and good) as the captain of the team when I was a teenager. My initial posts usually echo some disappointment and can be a bit harsh, only because like the rest of us I wanna see the woofers become a winner. I watched the game again and there some positives. Wolves actually played a very good first and things only started to get weird towards the end of the second with the almost unbelievable run of penalties that continued right through to OT with most of the calls justified.
As mentioned the biggest area of improvement is the PP, hopefully with the new additions on the backend some new strategies can be drawn up, namely being in motion, moving the puck quicker and shooting more.
Might understandably take awhile for the team to gel with the new additions but as was mentioned with all the adversity and penalties you could see the players uniting and playing for each other with the crowd right behind them and it was a great atmosphere. The crowd was definitely entertained so hopefully those checking out the team will be back and Friday nights will see loud, supportive crowds and help make the barn the difficult place to play that it used to be. Anxious to see what tomorrow will bring.

Good questions, with the proper tinkering the team could well look considerably different after Christmas so long as its not to the detriment of next season.

I know we sometimes seem harsh when we comment on the coaching but someone has to be in charge and accountable! Many of our problems are coachable. Who's the boss?

Just a thought: with Mesar now being sent to Kitchener right after they traded for OA Goalie Constantine…could there be a possible opportunity to deepen our goaltending depth by trading for an 04 goalie like Vandenberg? Gaulton is no longer an option due to his injury/surgery…

Looking at the standings it will be a really tough division, need to string some wins together.

How many times are we going to slew foot before this team gets the message?

Otherwise excellent game so far.

How many games or even seasons is it going to take for this coach to start disciplining this team because clearly he isn't. Dunc is the problem.

Side note - What happened to Stillman? Such a non factor for a 1st round NHL draft pick.

Do the Wolves already have the better player (Pharand), not to mention.......2 2nds, and 3 3rds.
I always thought it was a reach by the devil's with that pick. He mentioned himself he heard the same thing. He looks disinterested to me.
