Sudbury Wolves 2022-23 Season Thread

this team ceiling is high if everything falls in place, if the players take the next step in their development. Discipline, Leadership and Coaching is key to be successful this season. Papineau can also tweak come trade deadline. I believe Dario putting a push this season to make a run in the playoffs.

North bay is somehow going to have least year, this year, and next year? Niagara has 7 03's, most of whom they traded for, seems like they're trying for something this year. Mississauga is losing Hardie, Uberti, DelBeBelluz, Del Mastro among others, sure seems like this year is their year as well.
It can be the year for two maybe three of Barrie, Miss, NB, and Niagara. It’s not possible for Mississauga to get into an arms race. NB can wait to choose this year or next.
In addition to Niagara’s 7-‘03 born are 9 currently rostered ‘04 born including 3-1st round picks; and, the new owner stated Niagara will be bidding on the ‘24 memorial cup.

I think 23-24 is more than year then 24-25. the end of 23-24 likely sees the graduation of Collins and Goyette to the AHL, who knows maybe Konyen and Delic as well if they continue to develop. Assuming that I'm doing my math right on the ages. Don't forget they're likely going to continue the recruitment push on Hage as well.

22-23 02 OAs
23-24 03 OAs
24-25 04 OAs

The problem with Papineau is everything is very good, or very bad. The very good of Chromiak, the Thompson trade, the Stillman trade, Ranger trade(Early, but safe to say its looking like a big win), Ruzicka, Pekar are seemingly balanced out by the Ribau trade, both Stratis trades, the Chenier trade(Can argue this one because of the pandemic ending the season but I think Bulitka was the better fit), Purboo, Nizhnikov, Tabak, both Lipanov trades, most of the import drafts.

There's a lot of very good, a lot of very bad, hopefully, we can at least agree on that much. I think the future of the Wolves looks very good right now, possibly one of the best in the OHL, but I think the Wolves Ontario scouts are not getting nearly enough credit for their drafting.

Despite the optimism, the fact is the Wolves are arguably the least successful franchise in the OHL, and possibly the CHL, and I can't blame our fanbase for having become a bit jaded.
Sarnia would like a word about that last part 😂😭

Adding Collins and Chromiak into the line up on the back end is going to be a massive help. 8 D on the roster now. Bishop seems likely to be assigned, but I like him as the 7th dman. Surely Wolves will keep Toure and give him a chance.. He has earned the opportunity to play in the top-6 D. Holmes, Collins, Mania, Chromiak are locks to play top-6. Pick two out of Toure, Anania, D.Robinson to round out the top-6. IMO D.Robinson has not shown enough over the other guys to use an OA spot on. Go upgrade that OA spot at either position Dman or forward. Wolves all of sudden are very deep on D especially with Protz and Bruce signed and can be called up in emergency.

If we get Dvorsky to sign the log jam of talent up front becomes an issue. You can then find balance by dealing two of these young guys up front along with a guy like Robinson and getting a 19 year old left d-man like Mancini out of Saginaw. And get Hayes out of Hamilton. Assign Mauro and Bishop down to the farm.

Delic Goyette Konyen
Musty Degrazia Hayes
Boudreau Larmand McCallum
Dvorsky Villeneuve Pharand
Walton

Holmes Collins
Anania Mania
Mancini Chromiak
Toure

Assadourian-trade
Robinson-trade or release
Derbidge-trade

Mauro-send down
Bishop-send down

What you think howlman???

I foresee two runs in 2023-24 & 2024-25 with how this team is currently built
I can see two good runs as well. Though I think the wolves could take a run at it next season, 2024-26 is more likely imo. I guess we could have different ideas of what a good run is. For me, anything less than a conference final would be a disappointment if going for it.
I think what NB & Miss do leading up to this years trade deadline will help clear up what the central could look like next season.
Niagara is almost certainly a team to contend with next season.

Would luv to see Dvorak’s join his countryman in the Big Nickel, but your Roster appears to be set for this year. If the next 2-3 are our window you are carrying too many 19 year olds as you can only keep three next year. Add that to the graduating players and you’ll be happy to have Derbidge and Alex A. Back. So, they have shown this far they are both worth keeping. IMO

Roster can be altered it’s not set in stone. If becomes available to Sudbury you can bet your bottom dollar moves will be made. Never hurts to have an abundance of options at your disposal.

The 19 yr olds of the wolves are very likely not playing in the AHL next season, so there’s no rush to move them.

I think that's fair; you can make an argument for either, Sudbury may have had 1-2 better seasons, but the Wolves have also been around a fair ways longer I believe. Both teams have suffering fanbases no doubt. Here's to a future Sudbury vs Sarnia OHL final.

Looking at Chicago Steel web site Michael Hage not on the roster, I'm aware he was injured, however you would think he be on the roster.

hage? i think hes in toronto, hes hurt for a while
They have him listed as "IR" vs "inj". So, if he is on a longer term injury and they call it "Injured Reserve" maybe they don't list him on the roster. Likely the "inj" are day to day type injuries. Who knows. Just know he is not here... yet.

If Dvorsky shows up and maybe Hage, I think the moves are Degrazia, MacCallum, Mauro, Musty as I only see his trade value decreasing.
