Sudbury Wolves 2022-23 Season Thread (Part 2)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I'm sorry but the defence alone lost this one. Especially our left defence. Holmes should lay off the Toppers Pizza segments for the next little while. He was horrible tonight. Anania not far behind. Robinson not far behind Anania. This has to be the worst assembled mixture of defence this team has ever had. Boy do I miss the consistency and steadiness of Ross. I didn't think going into this year that losing only one player on defence would be that much a factor. But this combination is pathetic.

Careful Iloveallsports your going to get all the dunc haters panties in a wad....ive been waiting for the savior Derek to deliver this team from the bottom depths of the league but nothing has happened yet.
On a side note Krawchuk leaves a huge hole on his glove side

So Dunc was the problem? Very little has changed. Papineau didn't give him the tools to succeed and so far the same for Derek. I don't know what Papineau has up his sleeve but he better be pulling a rabbit out of a hat. I cannot believe that he'll barely do anything of significance to put this team in a better position going forward.

I know I don’t want to believe it but I hope it’s not wishful thinking. I wouldn’t bet any money. Oh ya McKenzie really showed his NHL experience by pulling the goalie with 3 minutes when you have a powerplay. You're down by one, you lose the face off and it’s over with over two minutes left and the powerplay. Brilliant.

Y’a the problem was all about Dunc wasn’t it. I mentioned it several games ago, now you’re hearing some murmurs but now it’s all about Papineau. Funny, with Dunc, it wasn’t the talent it was the coaching. So with McKenzie it’s Papineau and the team on the ice rather than coaching? I’m trying to keep it straight.

Krawchuck was deep in his net on the first one and gave a bad rebound on another one but I for one liked a lot of what I saw. The kid never plays. Seems to have good reflexes and directed quite a few rebounds out of danger. But overall, Papineau left us in a horrible situation in net.

I agree that the McCallum we have seen in the last ~15 game stretch is a 3rd line player on a contending team. I'd like to see him continue his strong play into the end of the season to feel better about keeping him as an OA next year. I am doubtful that the Wolves will be in go-for-it mode next year so rather than spending picks to go after another OA it may be best to keep our homegrown player. Having said that, if a good deal presents itself in the next few weeks I say we should sell high on McCallum and give that ice time to 05's & 06's.

Hoping for a good game tonight - last time we'll see them in Sudbury for a couple weeks!

Thought McCallum was great - he may have been our best forward tonight

Noticed Chromiak in good ways tonight - saw some flashes on a couple shifts of what he could become with time

Agreed but wasn’t on the ice in the last 2:53 with goalie pulled..no McCallum???

Data without context driven decisions; it’s the new, supposedly proven way. Let me guess, Beck won the face-off. That’s the context part, pull the goalie believing you’re going to take possession off a puck drop vs the league’s top defensive centre?!

I also think it is a reminder that these are kids. Many are still teens many far away from home and all in a pressure cooker. I dont want to assume how or why he died as that is not the job of the media or us. But I think we should all think long and hard about posting negetive things about these kids going forward. Ill get off my soap box now but I am hoping this changes how we look at these players.

I'm not certain but during training camp they went with Krawchuk over Morrow? I was also thinking Morrow might be going the college route, but I'm not positive on that either.
 
I like the lines they rolled with tonight. Still a period to go, but seems like a good way to send off into the Christmas break.
