Lately, 19 year old high end players bring the standard 2x2nds, 3x3rds at the deadline. Beck would be included in that group.

The only time a 16 year old is involved is if the receiving team didn’t have the picks to close the deal. We saw this in the Sarnia / Missy deal where Porter Martone and a 2nd went to Missy for Ethan Del Mastro.

What you’re asking for in your post is almost what you gave up to get him. I doubt you’re getting the same return for a player with a year less eligibility remaining in the league.

Any deal of Beck to Sudbury would likely be a picks only deal if the Wolves baulked at moving their 1st as they are flush with 2nds and 3rds.

I doubt the price is going to drop on Owen Beck. He has won an OHL Championship and by the deadline will have been part of two World Junior teams. In any trade with the Petes the cost will be near what they gave up for him last year. In my opinion any deal the Petes make for their top players will include wanting a player in return. Almost every trade at the deadline this past season included a player going the other way. The Petes will need to obtain new players that will to take the place of the players they likely be trading in the lineup. They cannot just play three overages, six returning players and the rest being rookies. They will want acquire at least one 16 year old taken in the 1st round, two or three 17 or 18 year older olds and numerous draft picks for their elite players. They are going to want similar returns to what Mississauga acquired in their deals at the deadline this year.

I’d say the more concerning thing today is if Derek MacKenzie stays now that Andrew Brunette was hired as head coach of Nashville.

WJ
You know a lot more than me on these things however that has not stopped me before:)
I would only say
1 I think Derek was originally hired with Quennvelle but don't doubt there is not a connection there.
2 if Derek has NHL head coach aspirations, it might be better to have head coaching experience on the resume.
3. Not sure of family situation and would he like some stability while kids are young?

Saying that I can certainly see the above happening.

I’ll call it done. Don’t forget Mac’s are tight with the Underwood’s who are Nashville royalties

Good post. Perhaps if it's a lead assistant but agree can go either. I also agree hed like to add to his resume re coaching. I would think his goal is to lead the wolves to many wins to enhance that.

Does anyone else besides me feel like they got slapped in the face, punched in the gut and kicked in the nuts/groin? Not one Wolfer on any of the 3 AllStar Teams or Rookie team. No Goyette, no Musty, no Villie no Krawchuk!! Com’on man give me a break. Maybe my lens is fogged with bias but I’m feeling Sudbury has been left out of the Old Boys GM Club of Southern Ontario. Please not to take one thing away from those mentioned but really….

You're so dramatic

Yup!! Pissed.
I get your point and only looking at stats and soe viewings. However can't say anyone definitely better than those selected. Maybe Goyette over beck o third team, Musty did not have a top three left wing year. Villeneuve had a fine year but in the top 6 forwards. Not sure.

Krawczuk has the the best case. His numbers were comparable to the two selected and I agree visibility and familiarity may have played a role, but if is not an egregious miss.

Who would you remove to replace with a wolf?

Thanks, I agree, but I don’t feel any better. Maybe it’s my “Disrespect the North” Complex I carry around with me….flared up again.

Only 12/20 teams represented is a bit surprising. But even if there was an all-star 4th team made, the wolves might not have represented.
LW: Petrov, Vierling
C: Burke, Robertson
Rookies: He, Martone
The battalion were too good to be ignored, so maybe the wolves load up, have a great season, and have 3-5 on the all-teams next season.

I think my complex of being ignored in the north started when Goyette was not recognized as ROY. Followed by a Kitchener poster, who described Sudbury as Siberia, when posting after the Hage trade…hopefully we will be more relevant this season.

Yeah but it was a Kitchener poster, so .... :sarcasm:

On now, June 1st. But I’m sure the league frowned upon any moves made during the Mem Cup…
This window closes at end of month so let see what happens.

Is it June 1st or first Monday of June?
Normally June 1st but if the Memorial Cup runs into June then right after it is over. I did hear from someone that it is similar to the WJT and it is 24 after it is over. That would mean, if true it does not open until tomorrow. Either way does not mean trades will happen or have to be announced tomorrow. Could be anytime after that.

In Sudbury prospect news, it looks like Ethan Morrow was traded from Wellington to the AJHL.

That Wellington team is in absolute turmoil right now. Lots of shady business going on. Looks like there Coach/GM traded a bunch of their top players to Trenton, only to resign a day later and is apparently soon to be named the new coach....... In Trenton.

This comes from a Hockey News article. It sounds like a player who might need some OHL time and it also sounds like some of the types of players who can help his game are on the Wolves. Also notable in this article, Musty is ranked 11th instead of the early-mid 20's that most others have him at

https://thehockeynews.com/news/ferraris-2023-nhl-draft-rankings-the-final-cut

21. Dalibor Dvorsky, C, AIK (Allsevskan), 6-foot-1, 201 pounds

Dvorsky is another one of the most interesting players in the draft class because the opinions vary so much on him. Some believe Dvorsky will be a top-six center who has high-end goal-scoring ability and can be “the man” on his line the way that he was at the U-18s. Others believe he will be a solid two-way center who will play on the third line and be a contributor on the power play, with his U-18 play being more a case of a physically mature player beating up on less physically mature players. What I’ve seen is a player who is a good finisher but will need a driver alongside him – a high-level complementary player. His defensive positioning is good but breaks down when he is hemmed into his own zone. His speed and explosiveness aren’t exactly at the level you’d like to see in a high-end center. When carrying the puck, there is a noticeable downshift in his speed and agility as well, becoming a bit more of an average skater when the puck is on his stick.
